Every time I see an old sewing machine, especially a Singer, it reminds of seeing loads of them either at the dump, the odd one popping up at an antique/vintage sale for £5 to £10 or used for decorations in a shop window (at least 20 of them) on Buchanan Street in Glasgow in the late 90s to early 2000s, although the ones in the shop are still there. There were so many about in Glasgow that people thought of as junk and discarded, including my Granny’s, which was thrown out during a move and I was too young to have been offered it, or have anywhere to keep it if I had been, and it makes me a little sad thinking about it.

I thought I recognized the countryside blouse! I'm unpicking some seams on my mock-up as I watch this lol. You're a great teacher and the blouse ended up absolutely lovely.
Lovely blouse it sits perfectly on you and suits your style wonderfuly. Your Singer is very beautiful and I really would like to see how it works and how you sew with it. Here is a little bit of a story of my singer sewing machine: I have a 1930 one that works with a pedal from a great-grand aunt of mine who was disabled due having polio as a kid. My family, in general, always talk about her and how sassy and independent she was even thought her physical problems and the era she lived in. She wanted to become a teacher but her parents couldn't afford it, but also wanted to give her an oportunity to work for herself, so she got a tuition to learn to be a seamstress. She became a very good one! I have a pic of her sewing with (now my) Singer next to it and it gaves me absolute joy to know, that thanks to that, she could have a job and be independent and have a happy live doing her things in the early 1900. What an icon she was! She sewed so many garments for my mother and now that, thankfully, I have the same size I can wear them too!
Ooooooh what a beautiful shirtwaist! And the undergarments combined with those gathers make it so poofy and airy. I do enjoy the detailed stuff a lot, btw.
This video is perfection🙌 the music, the result, all of it *chefs kiss* Added plus is the nostalgia of it all. My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 6, and she used to hum through her work too. When I got older (granted I’m only 25 now but still) and I found myself getting frustrated or anxious during a project, I found myself humming as-well to calm me and make it more enjoyable. It’s lovely to see that part of serene humanity in your videos. Thank you for this treat!
I love watching you work. You have such a delicate touch. I look so ham fisted when turning edges, etc. I wish I could find some nice insertion lace here (deep, deep rural oblivion). I refuse to buy from the UK now as we get hijacked into paying ridiculous customs and handling duties now post Brexit, the postie turns up and demands some random amount of cash and if you don't have it, they just take your parcel away. Sorry, I just stumbled I to that little rabbit hole. Anyway, the blouse is a triumph, and please make more videos!
That's such a shame the duties & such are such a mess! You might be able to find some second hand locally or on the web! Every now again you can find a gem 😊
I have usually had great success with TV patterns but with this one the collar and neck hole were just absurdly too small and I had to cut them bigger. This is an issue other people have had as well, so you might want to check against your own measurements when using the smaller sizes! The sleeves were also too short for me (even for 3/4 sleeve), which is bizarre because I am a tiny halfling, and I was NOT happy having to completely re-cut and redo them
@@LiljaHusmo It's generally good practice to check anyway, but this was the first TV pattern where I had serious issues, thought I'd give a heads up. I hope every one in the workshop and you have a wonderful time!
am I crazy or did I just see you iron something on a wooden tabletop?! also, just wanted to say that the cinematography of this video is absolutely fantastic, I can tell the amount of effort+time that went into the shooting and editing! apart from the shaky closeup bits when you are beginning the lace insertion, which I think don't quite work (I'm guessing you were trying something new, or forgot to shoot some b-roll?) I have no notes. honestly idk why you don't have more subscribers, you absolutely deserve it.

You can make seam allowance measuring guides on old machines by sticking a piece of masking tape at the required distance.🙂

Oh no! I did think the collar was a smidge tight, I will make sure to let my workshop attendees know to double check the neckline and collar 😊

Same with the sleeves here! The 3/4 ones hit at my elbow and the cuffs aren't long enough to go around my forearms.
