  • Decompression Dive Planning Basics (Rebreather Scuba Diving) Recreational diving is not technical diving! As recreational divers we must never violate our no decompression limit otherwise we place ourselves at great risk for injury, DCS and possible death. In this episode. Lyell takes you on one of his first decompression dives as he enters the world of rebreather technical diving with an air diluent deco dive. With the help of our friend Gary with Deefer Diving on Carriacou (another great RUclips Scuba Channel), the basics of dive planning for decompression diving is reviewed. Both Lyell and Gary emphasize that diving beyond recreational diving limits should NEVER be attempted unless you have the appropriate training! (We thank the Gary and the staff of Deefer Diving for their efforts in putting together this collaborative video!)

This gives a good idea of what decompression diving is about. As a recreational diver I found the material understandable.

Gary is great. Already a subscriber. Also, I’m reading Mark Powell’s “Deco for Divers” for the theory and it’s a fantastic book. Prof Simon Mitchell’s DAN lectures on this are also great learning resources. Got me excited to do tech, and I’m looking to do GUE Fundy in the fall

Powell’s book is awesome and I recently discovered Prof Mitchell on the DAN South Africa RUclips channel and yes he is super insightful about deco theory among other topics! Although I don’t think I’ll ever make a hardcore tech diver, the geeky science and theory behind it are fascinating! Thanks Mike!

About decompressing on oxygen, I saw on television a movie of a dive where the divers had to decompress, and for each diver an oxygen rebreather was ready at the decompression point for him to decompress with

While this is technically possible, it extremely advanced and beyond what most technical divers do. Check out Richard Harris RUclips channel if you want to see more of that stuff (he does some deep cave stuff and was involved with the Thai cave rescues)

John, I'm doing well. Got good news from my cardiologist this week, (although no real explanation as to why this happened to an otherwise healthy heart), but I hope to be cleared to be back in the water yet this summer! Thanks for your kind words and thanks for asking!
