Killer info Greg, you got me thinking about how to cool stuff on other machines. Got a friend gonna help me to get my South Bend Heavy 10 Toolroom Lathe up & running. I'm going to need it for a ptoject I've been wanting do a long time now. I'm having a hard time finding "Divorced Transfercases.." Next time Bessie goes down I want to be able to put a 4spd & a 5531 Brown-Lipe auxiliary transmission behind it & the NP 205 behind that which will give me overdrive on the high side & loads of deep reduction on the low side, plus a lot of PTO options.

No doubt! I kept looking for a way to machine all the parts and I kept coming up with a list of tools that I needed. I did want to test out thread milling for the NPT connections, but MAN... Thread milling a tapered thread is a math problem I'm not ready for yet. I may remake this down the road.
@@GregsGarage yea, crazy how much more complicated machining projects are than plasma, laser, router projects, always a work holding issue and always a tooling issue. But so damn cool!

Good chip evacuation really spoils you! IDK If it'll ever happen to you, but I've actually had debris get inside my solenoid causing it to leak when closed; you can take them apart and clean the seal and clean the seal to get them working (The first time this happened I replaced the whole valve lol, now I know)
I haven't had that happen yet. Now I know that I can clean it out. Cheers!!!

If you don't want to flood cool, or use the standard oily stuff... you can use what Datron sells. It's a denatured alcohol mix. The alcohol wets the bit and the part better than water, because of reduced surface tension and it's thinner. Plus, it evaporates, and leaves your parts clean for any subsequent operation where regular machining coolant would be problematic.
I had no idea there was an alcohol solution. I'm steering away from the flood coolant because I don't use the machine every day. The bacteria will grow if you don't keep it turned over. Also, it will be a struggle to keep the coolant to water ratio correct because of the infrequency of use. I do need to find something I can use for wash down. WD works really well for cutting aluminum, but I hesitate to use it to wash down the whole machine. I'll check out the Datron line to see if they have something I can use.
All I ever use is Isopropyl Alcohol. It is great because it evaporates without any residue. It is not harmful to your skin and it cleans oil and magic markers extremely well. A squirt now and then keeps aluminium cool. Its also not very expensive. €3/l.
@@GregsGarage yeah, no reason to buy theirs, as you'll be hit with the German "premium"! Haha! If you can find the MSDS sheet, you'll see it is water and alcohol. I personally use a 50/50 mix in a squirt bottle for vinyl work. I think a 75 alcohol /25 h2o ratio is pretty good for machining aluminum.
Hey Greg, I'm following your plan on using an amazon solenoid. The only problem is that my 770M has a 115 vac C14 outlet and not a regular one for that power adapter on your solenoid. I bought the same solenoid and similar power adapter. Did you need a connection piece to plug into your machine? I just bought a IEC C14 Male to NEMA 5-15R Female... I'm hoping it works or I might be dead in the water.
The 1100 has a standard receptacle, but if you've got an adapter coming, it should work just fine. IEC plugs are the same voltage and same amp rating. Make sure you check the polarity with a meter. I've had SEVERAL IEC cables and plugs that had the neutral and line backwards. There are tiny little letters next to the holes on the IEC cable that indicate what they are supposed to be.

It does not circulate... I also don't know much about cutting/machining copper. I use wd40 for cutting aluminum.
Question Greg did you need to get a 3-phase converter for the mill , what isthe power requirement 220 50 amp will run it ???
It's single phase 220V. The 770 can run on 120V. I'm using a 20A circuit. The draw on these machines is surprisingly low. It does have a. separate 120V plugin for the computer, the pump, and the accessories. I'm using my bandsaw circuit since both machine don't need to be plugged in at the same time.
