- They drive a car from Sweden to the UK to avoid the snow. And it snows in the UK. We got to play in it though, and that cool air probably made it good for at least 508hp. It's a small-volume concept for now, but we had a C63 on display to add some perspective (actually, just because it was hilarious in the snow)

Volvo should really get back into the fast car market...
The V60 and S60 Polestars (production versions) do 0-60mph in around 4.5 seconds. They are pretty quick. They look amazing in Rebel Blue as well. Cheers

They have a 2.7 tonne 450bhp 7 seater that can beat a supercharged c6 corvette over a 1/4 mile
And from 2004-2012 all there cars were offered with a v8
And they have ALWAYS offered a 2.9 twin turbo inline 6
And they have ALWAYS offered a 2.5 big turbo inline 5

I see the current Polestar as a warmup to the car featured in this video. If Volvo can mass-produce and sell the Polestar in this video for anything under $75,000 it will be a hit. If you get a chance to check out a Polestar at a dealership or elsewhere, please do. I drive a 2012 S60 R-Design. It's nice but the fit and finish of the 2015 Polestar is much better.

The sound of this engine is awesome!
Many v6 sound shit because the exhaust chambers and resonators and firing order is some weird voodoo I don't still understand.
I love the gurgle sound of nissan gtr and golf vr6 but hate the HRMM HRRMMM sound of some stock honda nsx and american v6:es, its like bigroom drop, disappointing general sounds :D
eamh2002 I think (not sure) that it is related with the type of crankshaft.
As well as firing order and angle of the V probably.

I have one of these. Not the crazy 500HP, but the 345HP (257KW) limited edition production model with 6 speed auto. Mine is number 11 of 50. Love it. Only problem is nobody will ever take me on because they think it's just another Volvo. :) It is not as quick as a C63 in the dry, but creams it in the wet. Blows away a 453HP (340KW) HSV.
HSV's are nothing lol, you should give the S4's and similar a run. Australia always get the special run cars

After almost 10 years from this video all I can say is Volvo decided to disappoint, they had such a huge potential to be on the same level with merc, audi, bmw but they went hybrid, electric and chose to not make money

Chris, that's a straight six. Also, Volvo's performance heritage goes back to R-Sport when they were rallying PV544s. As for oversteer, look at all the nutty 500whp 240s and 940s around the US and Sweden. You will be surprised.

What exactly does a V6 sound like as opposed to an I6? Not really sure. Volvo has I6 though.

I have an S60r with a standard 6 speed gear box and it is a blast to drive, I can only imagine pumping it up another 200 hp!
I still want THIS car, or the Polestar C30...One can only hope that someday Volvo will just say "F_ck it!" and build and sell something as crazy as this.

Well, if Lexus think they had the right to enter sports saloon carmarket, then why not Volvo? As said by Chris, the history of Volvo tells for itself. If Volvo didn't price this car so damn high, it would have been a fine alternative to the established cars in this segment I think.
You can't price a small (micro) production car low - the early buyers would just re-sell at a premium anyway. When they get around to making 5,000 of them a year, the price will be in line with the base car they are "enhancing."
Been a fan of Chris for over 20 years the guy can really drive.

Best drifting I've seen in some time. It's all great to drift in the dry but perfect control on the snow and ice is great. Being from a cold climate I love it.
Very good, articulate review of this amazing car. I never would have considered buying a Volvo before but if they bring something close to this Polestar version to mass production I have to seriously consider purchasing one.
They're making them now for US sale in a limited quantity of 120 and with 345 HP...I really want one, these vehicles are absolutely amazing looking

The place this car could've taken in the market, Volvo chose to back down from for the sake of _________. It is now taken by the Giulia Quadrifoglio. Great cars don't come out of satisfying a need to be practical. If only we could've had this car do a production run. What an achievement this car is in it's class.

a car of which I know manual vs automatic brings a big difference nowadays, twin clutch brings even more of a difference and on bikes a quick shifter can get you a second or 2 maybe more,I wont insult you since that is far from what I came here to do but that's sad tredfxman I hope there is especially being an old school manual style gearbox and performing that well just makes that car, the coolest ive seen, im sure it would tear a viper a new one, and yes, Polestar vs AMG.

Love the car. S60s are great cars on their own. (I would know, I'm a Volvo mechanic) This version is fantastic. The T6 with this much power rivals the new drive E engine. Also love Chris Harris and all his videos. One thing that I can't help but cringe at, he keeps saying V6. Inline 6! Volvo has never made a V6. Sorry, can't help but be anal, I spend all day in S60s, XC60s, and XC90s. Volvo makes a 2.5 I5, a 3.0 and 3.2 I6, a 4.0 V8, and now a 2.0 I4. Not a V6.
Volvo did actually have a V6 in the Late 70's, early 80's but otherwise yes.
Did you take a look at the 5.0 litre V8 that Polestar built. Sounds great and has 650hp under the bonnet to play with.
And it's also not a 4.0 V8 :P it's actually a 4.4*L V8 made along with Yamaha :P

Awesome! Volvo needs to inject a bit of insanity back into their brand. My first car was a base Volvo 850 sedan, but I always lusted after the 850R. This type of an S60 is definitely lust-worthy.

Polestar has been around for 20 years, and they didnt do that by building 6 s60's

V6 sound mentioned several times, but it's an inline six.
I have a new S60 R-Design. It has a sport tuned suspension, body kit, nice twin-scroll turbo, nice seats, interior touches to the gauges and shifter, and it is FAST. I love the car. The exhaust/engine sounds pretty mean and I love hearing the turbo blow off valve. I wish it had a set of Brembos on it though. It smokes a lot of cars.

@sheesh3323 hey there. I don't have the car anymore. In 2015 I got a Lexus 2015 IS350F, then in 2018 a 2018 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport, and another Red Sport in 2021. The Infiniti is much faster and handles better than the Volvo. I'm sure the Volvo is still a nice car though :)

Polestar are currently working on a 450hp engine that they likely intend to put into the next S60 redesign. The S60 Polestar Concept (in this video) was an experiment, the S60 Polestar production was a limited run, and now with a new branding direction(xc90,s90) I think this next iteration will be very interesting.... Exciting times indeed for Volvo.

They sold the 6 concepts at $300k a piece then sold 720 Polestar units globally/online in something like 14 minutes. My buddy was 3rd in line for months and our state only received 2. They have a new batch coming out for 2016 (this coming june?) and he's first in line this time.

I love how they compare a sub tuning brand with real production brands like AMG, M and RS series, How is that fair? The AMG,M,RS series are like Volvo's R series Compare that AMG with a stock Volvo S60 R and you'll see 2 cars in the same bracket. Otherwise come back after you tried that 200 thousand shit bucket against AMG Black series, Brabus, BMW G-power or Hartge. And yeah the real polestar production car got 350 hp at 50 grand lols, which is pretty hilarious, hyping up a car this much. I feel bad for Volvo.
I'm pretty sure if you listened all the way through the video and at the end he clearly stated it was not a "comparison"... It was a performance test with an established car brand and series to see what it's capabilites are. Volvo is trying to reestablish a brand name that's been known for years for its safety and wanted to test the waters for a performance/speed vehicle.

After acquiring it, of course, my first order of business is to take it to Sweden and offer sexual favors to the Polestar team to replace the auto-box with that manual one. :)

Another great video Chris. You're right, I think polestar is on to something here. I don't believe that they will be an amg or M but there they could fit into that niche between the Audi s-line and that upper echelon. This is where I think infinity will be competing soon.
