It's a BAD MOVIE (STORYLINE, CHARACTERS, for FEW CAST, AND THE CHARACTERS MOTIVE)
Snake eyes is a Stupid guy. Don't he think that he can find his father killer himself, or use the Tommy power to JUST find the murderer of his father?
I confused with the Snake MOTIVE that change so many times (So the other Joe members, and yet they are really really ACCEPTANCE for his mistakes and flaws, like WHAAAATT...) and YES, Snake is STUPID.
Cmon, you dont cast A RIDICULOUS GOOD LOOKING GUY to cover him in a mask (In this context of BEING SNAKE EYES that will fully face cover)
Bad cast for Henry as a Snake eyes, REALLY?? oh God he really lack of CHARISMA as Snake eyes and he really BAD with martial arts. Henry is good only as he holding gun and acting (So far, as a asian Mafia in 'the Gentlemen' ).
Ohh.. Christ sake, Samara Weaving as Scarlet, and The Baroness REALLY JUST AS EYE CANDY ON THIS MOVIE, they don't even have a right character and proportion on this 2HOURS MOVIE!!!!
For TOMMY as STORM SHADOW, oh i really LOVE his character, REALLY REALLY CHARISMATIC, as a man that hold the burden of Arashikage clan and someone who have darkside, he REALLY SHOW it all. Shame the storyline is F' up.

That is true. Snake Eyes is the bad guy in this movie. I watched the whole movie and did not realize. But I was waiting the whole time -"he's going to change" and he never really did.
Lol, I thought he was exaggerating, he isn't.. Not that it is shaky cam but that they shot it as though they were standing next to the people in a fight and missing all the action..

Rick Rodriguez how many of those PG-13 movies with better action were based on very popular children's TOYS and had ninja swords and weapons? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1-3 didn't use shaking camera action sequences but never showed any real violence with Raphael and Leonardo's swords. The shaking camera in Snake Eyes was probably to hide that Yakuza were getting all sliced up. To keep it PG-13

@@neilbreen371 the h you talking about? Those previous G.I. Joe movies were not even about ninjas. Those were army movies. They didn't have swords slicing arms and legs off. It was mostly some people getting shot with guns. They didn't show arms or legs getting cut off
Would love to see the DP talk about why he shot it the way he did. Like did he actually think it was good? Was it the directors choice? Etc
The lack of real promotion was a big red flag imo.
I think it had a lot of promotion. Saw tons of posters around LA, funny commercials with Henry Goulding as the toy figure Snake Eyes, solid trailers, etc… They just didn’t make a good movie
There was a shit tonne of promo for it. The camera crew & editor messed the footage up in post-prod.
As a non GI Joe fan watching this film, it was definitely not as terrible as a lot of these critics are making it out to be. Although I thought the story was just decent (not good or bad just average), the fighting was epic although the camera was shaky which was annoying, but the cast was really good especially storm shadow who was the most badass part of this film
Movie was trash, storm shadow, blind master and hard master were the only good things about it.

LOL, you're not wrong about the shaky cam problem in Snake Eyes. Not sure why Hollywood keeps using this technique for filming fight scenes. Koji and Iko Uwais are both martial artists and can probably go through a full choreograph fight scene without any breaks/editing. Ashamed the camera didn't just pull back and let them do what they do. Makes me a little nervous for Shang-Chi to be honest with the fight cinematography. The movie itself is okay and I like the conflicting relationship between Snake Eyes and Tommy/Storm Shadow.
I thought HW learned its lesson from the first Transformers movie and Batman Begins lol

True i was rooting for storm shadow the whole movie. Snake eye was the true villian in this movie. If they make a sequel fuck snake eye i want it to be a storm shadow movie.
I 100% agree with John about Stormshadow/ Tommy. I was rooting for him and I was just as upset as Tommy for what happened. Some people are saying 'but he didn't follow the rules of the clan.' B.S! He understood where he went wrong; why the clan made the promise and vowed to recommit to it! And he still loses his birthright and his planned for future, and Snake Eyes gets to keep his sword, gets a new suit, gets supported by the clan, and closure about his father.

the things henry goulding was doing in the movie .. i thought in the end thier will be a twist that koji will be snake eyes and goulding will be storm shadows because as per my knowledge storm shadows suppose to be bad not snake eyes

Didn’t care for the story direction and now hearing these reviews confirms the worst. Agree kill this franchise now and start over…again.
Not going to see it due to the distracting shakey cam. I thought the second and third Bourne movies taught studios we don't like it. Also there's been a year and a half of time to fix the movie. And if there wasn't then stall the release date. I wouldn't notice if it were delayed a few weeks. I'll wait until it streams online.
This is coming out too many years after the G.I. Joe movies for me to care. I'll go see Shang-Chi and catch this on cable

I mean if you want to call it a post credit scene. It literally comes on within 25 seconds of the last scene of the movie
Sometimes it's really hard to tell how John really feels about a movie
I would give this film at least a 6 or 7 out of 10 only thanks to Andrew Koji's Storm Shadow. This film really felt more of a Storm Shadow story than a Snake Eyes story. Koji had a stronger arc than Golding's Snake Eyes and it paralleled to Ah Sahm in Warrior. He had the fury, rage, hurt, pain, sadness all wrapped perfectly.
Yeah the movie is fine. I didn't have a problem with the camera work, but I sit in the back row. I also saw it in IMAX, so maybe the framing was different. John is right about Storm Shadow being the hero of this film, but Snake Eyes has the redemption arc. The next film would be the descent of Storm Shadow.

The problem with this movie was it had a thematic message that it never delivered. How does a dishonorable man become honorable? How does an untrustworthy outsider become trustworthy. How does a man consumed with vengeance evolve towards a greater purpose? The movie presents these questions but they only give us half answers.
It looked awful from the trailer. Shame cause I really like the guy from the Warrior show.

Yep that how I felt the protagonist was the bad guy who caused all the problems.
Theres nothing worse than a writer or director with a moral compass so outdated or out of wack that they cant tell that the general audience will hate their main character.
Should've stuck to the original series and got Dwayne Johnson to play roadblock and introduce more members of gi joe to the franchise, snake eyes was a wasted opportunity that looked like it was just thrown together just to please the fans 🤣🤣🤣
This might be random and unnecessary but wouldn’t it be cool if they made a movie on just storm shadow now wether it’s just with Andrew Koji or doing a movie with him and byung hun lee the original storm shadow and just have them together in the story by having the story revolve around the present storm shadow then go with the past storm shadow like in a back and forth story between the past and the present.

100% on both the shaky cam and the fact that Storm Shadow is the actual hero (and Snake Eyes being a dick lol). Not to mention the "GI Joe" portion of the movie being shoe-horned in. I was hoping for a lot more (and if you are literally going to have one shot of the actual Snake Eyes costume in the movie, DON'T show it in the trailer...ugh)

If you want a good gi joe movie watch the first expendables movie and just pretend it’s called gi joe and sly is flint and so on and so forth……with some tweaks to it of course (insert cobra) it could have been re-tooled into a great gi joe movie! the kinda gi joe movie for my age group who grew up with it (but still keep the main mythology) not something that’s geared towards 12 year old who didn’t grow up with gi joe ,don’t know what it is and don’t give a shit about it

I swear to god, Storm Shadow's sister in this film has a Japanese accent for the first 10 minutes and then out of NOWHERE gets a British accent which she maintains for the rest of the film...wtf??

She definitely had a Japanese accent for like the first 5mins of her introduction but then her British accent kept slipping through. By 10mins in of her intro it’s completely British and stays British for the rest of the film.
I really questioned what just happened to her accent and came to the conclusion that the actress and director were like ‘fuck it’

To be fair about the title, I think they meant GI Joe origins the same way they meant X-men origins Wolverine, or the X-men origins comic series. It was meant to be a subtitle for origin stories about certain GI Joe characters like SnakeEyes not the origin of the GI Joe. Like how the X-men origins comic series was not about the X-mens origin as a whole, but an origin story singular titles for X-men characters themselves

As a HUGE 80s comic run fan, this movie was crushing. It's SO easy to get a Joe movie right! They don't even have to be creative! Just roughly adapt most of the comic run!!!!

Same thing happen to the Raid Stars in The Force Awakens. Massively misused.
It’s so annoying how Hollywood keeps trying to use the Raid cast but clearly has no idea how to use them properly. They did an alright job with Joe Taslim in Mortal Kombat and I hope he gets more opportunities as Noob Saibot in potential better sequels, but most other cases like the The Force Awakens were just complete wastes of their talents. I am at least glad they’re getting some Hollywood money, I just wish the movies were better
@@markobelobrajdic9271 In The Force Awakens, JJ Abrams had initially brought them along to choreograph some of the fights, but thought that their suggestions were too violent, so Abrams ended up reducing their roles to a cameo. Iko Uwais mentioned this in an interview with Men's Health iirc.

Just finally watched the movie. And totally agree with you. I couldn't believe what a complete Dbag snake eyes is thru this whole movie. Finally at the end when he cuts his hand and offers it to storm shadow. I was like finally he has figured it out. Let the guy that killed your father go. So you don't have to continue to be this jerk back stabber. And oh my lord. He still does the most stupid thing. I was about stop watching at that point. I couldn't take snake eyes any more. But I watched the rest. And again your right I felt so bad for storm shadow by the end. It was like screw snake eyes. Like he says at the end this is all my fault!!!! Oh yeah it is dbag!!!! The dude trusted you and became your blood brother. For snake eyes to still ruin his life. The shaking didnt bother me to much. Honestly G.I Joe and Transformers and series like that dont have a "true" canon like Brands such as DC Marvel or Star Wars for example so most movies are a mix of so many different versions and new stuff. Some versions Storm killed him because he was petty, others it was an accident, others he had nothing to do with it etc

Just got back from watching the movie. I said the same thing to my son right after it finished. That it was snake eyes who caused the whole situation and storm shadow had every right to be pissed. Through out the movie I was thinking the only way to save the movie was if there was a TWIST that the character Tommy(storm shadow) actually turned out to be snake eyes , which I literally thought that’s what was going to be happen since ,exactly as John describes, snake eyes was an ahole and has NO redeeming quality
I saw the movie today at AMC and for me it felt very much Andrew Koji's journey to joining Cobra. I felt Koji had depth and dimension and paralleled to Ah Sahm in Warrior. He is all about loyalty, brotherhood and it leads to betrayal by the person he vouched for and his clan disowning him which kind of sucked. Henry Golding was great as Snake Eyes but the character of Snake Eyes definitely betrayed Storm Shadow who was loyal to the Arashikage Clan and he got stabbed in the back for no reason. The other characters like Peter Mensah's Blind Master, Iko Uwais's Hardmaster were their for exposition and held their own in the story with the material given to them.
I'm disappointed about this. I HATE shaky cam and to hear that so much is in this movie and that the story is bad has killed my desire to see this movie.
It wasn’t a lot of shaky cam but one scene did have shaky cam that was jarring. The fights are actually pretty good especially the sword fighting
