Im 41 years old and bought a 2019 R3 as first bike. Im real happy I started small cc because Im still learning every time I ride. I want a 600cc but Im not sure im ready as I still make small mistakes that a 600cc might not be as forgiving.
600 is not that crazy. You can start on a 600.
Stick with what you're comfortable with. No reason to force yourself into something you might not be ready for.

Got a 2020 ninja 400 for my first bike. Literally perfect for beginners. Not too much power to mess you up, not too little to where you get left behind.
Currently looking myself. 400cc sounds perfect so that’s my goal
I started on a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 500r. It was perfect. Rode it for 4 years and now I'm on a 2018 Kawasaki Zx 14r se baby! Also love the content been watching your videos from the beginning of your channel! Hope all is well sir!

I rode the yahamah r3 before its a 321 cc and it's perfect for the freeway. My ninja 400 is perfect for the freeway as well. There's not much power difference between the ninja 400 and r3. The 400 feels like it has a little more torque but it's slightly noticeable! Love your videos man!
My ninja 400 is awesome. New rider for about 4 months here with about 6000 miles so far. Very fun and inexpensive, very good all around bike and I'm not even lose to getting bored of it. If you're not planning to street race, the 400 is perfect. Runs to 90 mph easily and easy on the hands to cruise around with traffic lights and stop signs. Thank you for the video!
I started on a 2017 CB300F and I loved it. I developed great skills and confidence and it was very fun to ride. Now I have a Triumph Bonneville Bobber 1200
Take your time learning, building your skills and building your confidence on a smaller bike rather than anything over 400cc. It will make you a better rider!
I started out on a 1990 CBR250RR MC22 with the inline 4 engine that revs up to approximately 19,000rpm.
It doesn't have a huge amount of power but it teaches you how to ride and handle a bike properly.
As much as I love my 2008 CBR1000RR Fireblade, I still regret going straight to a litre bike and should have got something in between to bridge the huge performance gap.
It took me much longer to learn how to ride the Fireblade properly.
The funny thing is that I've still got my 1990 CBR250RR and just purchased another one for the track and I'm consistently passing 1000cc bikes in corners on the track. They're just so much fun to ride. If you know how to ride a 250cc - 400cc bike properly then you should have no problem keeping up with most people on bigger bikes through corners but a 250cc will certainly lack a little on the straights.
Hey cyclecruza! I tried my friends bike when i was 12 yrs old and it was a 90cc chinese dirtbike, i then a little while after got a 150cc chinese dirtbike myself and i was learning on that. Obviously i wasn`t gonna do highway or anything like that because i was 12 yrs old and now i`m 14 yrs old still owning the same bike, i still think it`s superfun riding that same bike. I am probably going to upgrade to the 250 version of that same bike. I have never ever had a problem with the bike, it`s so fun and lightweiht, it`s like 80 kilos so i throw it around like litterly nothing, i changed to street tires because i wasn`t driving it on a dirtbike track. I still love that thing but now i`m feeling like a little bit more power would be nice. Keep up the good work cyclecruza. Love the content man!😄

I'm a new rider and I have a 2018 Kawasaki ninja 400 and I have no complaints it's good on the interstate
Some new riders can't even handle or avoid dropping a 50cc scooter like what I witnessed at MSF training. The perfect starter bike depends on the individual. My first bike was a 1500 vulcan. I used the tw200 during MSF training without any issues. It was their biggest bike. Everyone's starting capability is different and they shouldn't be judged by what they start with but how far they ultimately progress with motorcycling. Myself, I've yet to become a cross-country rider. Just been local so far.
I started on a 300 (Yamaha R3). Plenty of power even on the highway, but not too much to get you into trouble. You can bang through the gears and ride a slow bike fast!
As a daily commuter on the freeways out here in LA, often times traveling ~85mph, and touring around on the weekends for extended trips, I couldn’t recommend my bike more for new riders, Kawi Ninja 650 😁 It definitely feels planted and stable at freeway speeds, it has enough heft to not get blown around like you might on a smaller bike, engine happily hangs around higher speeds without screaming and straining itself to keep up with traffic, and best of all, has a good bit of torque and power to get you out of tricky situations while traveling at speed if needed. Only word of caution I would give new riders out there, especially those that just started riding fresh out of the MSF course, if you aren’t yet familiar with just how sensitive motorcycle throttles are and how little you actually have to turn it to get going from a red light, you can easily get a wheelie going if you aren’t smooth with the clutch and put on too much gas to start. Happened to me soon after getting the bike (thankfully I didn’t fall from it), but that torque and power which is so appreciated on the freeway, also translates to accidental wheelie action and potential F’d up days. It’s still very much beginner friendly of a bike, but there is that extra bit of torque/power over smaller bikes to keep an eye out for.
That’s awesome dude that takes guts riding a sport bike on a highway in Los Angeles. I was living in Arizona for about four years and I always regret not getting a bike out there. I was wanted to get a Suzuki V Strom, and I was planning on it but my time out there was cut short I was actually supposed to move to Santa Monica. Venice, and I still would love to move back out there and get a bike and hopefully cruise up into the mountains here and there. That would be amazing. But I would definitely try my best to avoid the highways out there. That is just so crazy. I’m moving back in my hometown of Pennsylvania now, I used to have a cruiser motorcycle Virago 535 for my first sports bike. I am considering a 250 just to get used to the riding position.

I started on a CBR250 at 20 years old. Glad I did too because I wrecked the shit out that bike 😂 I’m on a tricked out CBR600RR now that maxes out at 172mph. So glad I worked my way up!

I agree, the Kawasaki Ninja 400, it's Naked Brother the Z400, the KTM 390 Duke, or a DRZ400 would all be good starter bikes
Any one of them can get close to a hundred miles per hour if necessary, they're all Heavy enough to be okay on the highway, and none of them is too powerful for a beginner to handle
I agree the 400 is the best choice on the sportbike style. I also agree with the dual sport. I don't think you will get bored with the dual sport. I am 55 and have four bikes and a dual sport is one. I probably have the most fun on it and it is the slowest.

For me, it depends on how crowded your town or country is. Mine is so crowded that 250cc can blast through anything. I got a 150cc right now and it still can overtake car with ease. Plus in my country, motorbikes are not allowed on a highway. If your town is the opposite of mine, you can probably start with a higher cc.

@@RedEemblem It's Indonesia. Now it could be mistranslation on my end (English is not my first language). My friend told me that highway is that road when you have to pay to get in (freeway?). After reading your comment i looked up the highway and it's actually a main road, just a normal main road. If that is true then motorcycle do allowed in highway but not allowed in toll roads.

If you weigh over 95kgs, buy a 400cc as a minimum. I had a 250cc, and it could barely do 100kph going up a hill, but the worst part that was dangerous was not even the lack of acceleration at any speeds, but if you're heavy, you are TOP HEAVY on a 250cc bike and in Cross-winds be prepared to be blown 1-3 feet across your lane. As soon as I upgraded from a 250cc wet weight of 150kgs to a bike of 400cc and at least 180-190kgs wet weight, both the issues of no acceleration to get out of the way or the crosswind was not an issue. Crosswind on a light bike was a major major down right dangerous issue for my weight tbh.
It depends on the individual. My first bike street bike was a 1993 GSXR 750. I still ride middle weights to this day and I bought that bike in 1995. Learn on a dirt bike, get comfortable with the machine, be responsible and accountable respect the bike and understand that it is YOU that controls the throttle -- no one else. Follow those simple rules, and get what you want.
Started on a CB500F, thinking of going down for a Benelli Leoncino 250 now. Enough for what I do, might even be funnier going faster on a slow bike then going slower on a fast bike.
Spending the difference on better protecion gear.

Ninja 300 is all around good beginner bike. Absolutely able to get on highway but can't pass Los Angeles motorists. It remains casual highway, mostly street bike. Ninja 300 is perfect for beginner: it is a very forgiven bike. I made many full throttle take offs and turns with out kissing pavement. Thanks

Being a rider my self going beyond 650cc is just overkill.
I realized with time that I used to red line 250cc many times but it was very rare on a 650cc bike on daily rides.
I got a 400 Ninja and I love it!!
Started out on an old Suzuki Bandit 600, total crapbike. Saved up some cash and bought me an CB500X, perfect bike for everything

I started with a suzuki 500 GS twin. Nice all rounder with enough power to grow into ...... plus it’s cheaper than Honda CB500 on the used bike market

You NEVER have to ride on the highway. There is always another option. So, to you beginners riding a small beginner bike. Stay off the highway.
I started on a 250 cbr abs & honestly, I’d go with a 400 if you want a bike you can grow into. A ninja 400 is nice even for the track.
I currently a ninja 400 & now that I don’t have abs, I pretty much had to relearn proper braking so I definitely recommend abs cause it will save your ass!!! Especially if you are a new rider.
Best beginner bike depends on the size and strength of the rider... period
I've ridden a handful of 250cc motorcycles over the last two years, and so far, the only 250cc motorcycle that I could not recommend highly enough is the Hyosung GT250R. The best Allrounder 250. Can happily sit on 70 mph all day every day, with a top speed of 115+ mph. Fuel range is easily 200+ miles. Put a pair of decent tires and a Black Widow full exhaust system, and you'll be set. After owning 2 of them, I can say that these are super reliable

That kawasaki z400 is a very balanced choice. My first bike was rebel 300 and I liked it much overall, but the throttle response was pretty jerky if you REALLY didn't focus hard core on SLOOOOW wrist flick control. I'm currently loving my cb500x 2019...sooooo smooov smooov xD
I bought a new r6 for my first bike Last year. I sold it and bought the ninja 400 and I'm in love with the ninja 400. It's my daily rider and its perfect for my commute. I don't think I'll get rid of for a long time. Does everything I ask it to do and it's more fun then the r6 too mee.
I’m a foreigner in China. About “Chinese scoota”. It may give all of you a bad impression of Chinese motor vehicles. But for a beginner you must check out the CFMoto 250sr (obviously 250cc). It’s a really good sport-motorcycle and costs only 1.8k, must check it out.
I won't touch anything Chinese. Better get a used Japanese bike, you won't regret it! A ten year old Honda is a better value than a brand-new Chinese bike.
Mr CycleCruza I know you probably wont see this but thnx. Was thinking of 300cc or 400cc. Sometimes I need the power to avoid animals, people, or cars. I dont want something too big that its hard to maneuver at low speeds. I'll take your recommendation into consideration, used bikes. Not many motorcycle shops in my area either 😞
The best beginner bike is the one that fits the riders skills, and allows them to develop properly. It isn't for anyone to decide but the rider buying the bike.

Been riding scooter before moving to motorcycle and my first was a 250. I wouldnt imagined getting a 500 as my first bike after my first few ride on the 250. The kick was surprising and that was me being prepared for the kick. Granted some people will behave differently but I would not recommend a person with zero knowledge on bike starting out on a 500.
Go for the 400 or 650 I got a 400 2 weeks ago first time rider ever ! and I’m loving it so easy to learn on..

400. Same price, less shifting and non carb. You'll need to ride constantly or keep fuel stabilizer in the 250. 400 has abs option and amazingly, less weight than the 300. Put a 150 tire on back for more grip. The 250 you need to add a relay to get led lights, and has no digital display on ninja. I was actually advised to get a 600 and change sprocket sizes until comfortable with the speed, but I couldnt pass up a 250 for $2700 with 600 miles on it.

I started at Yamaha Sniper 135 (UB) when im 14, now im 19 I jumped to Kawasaki Z1😅 I'm riding it for months now.... for me the best way to drive a sports bike is to start with Underbone, Scooter (Xmax) or naked bikes.

I say don't bother with anything 250-300. You will outgrow a smaller bike quickly. Now, you need to 100% be a person who knows when to pin the throttle and when to chill. I'd stay away from any new bike, and any super-bike. Get a cruiser first or a fat single thumper like a DR650 for a few years. Get the basics down properly, and then move on to what you really want. And after you stop riding? Take it easy when you get a new bike. It was a little learning curve when I got back on the saddle. And it will be again in the future because I got rid of my bike this year because I did not have anyone to ride with and my kids and wife had to stay home as well. You pick it back up quickly though, that experience does not completely evaporate!

I traded a glock for a cbr 250,it didn't have a issue for my 90 mile work commute on the highway at 70+ mph.I miss its mpg compared to my current 1000cc bike ,76 mpg was the best I got and I was 210 to 220 lbs.Its was a really fun and good bike.i would buy another for sure,84 mph GPS top speed with my big butt on it.
I’ve been riding a ninja 300 for about a year now and it’s really fun at the beginning but yo tend to outgrow it fast and wishing you had more power! Upgrading to a zx6r soon!

Listen to cycle Cruza on this subject he is correct, small cc bikes are more fun on the street and some tracks even for seasoned riders. Put your ego and peer pressure in check and listen to cycle Cruza.
My 1st actual motorcycle was a suzuki bandit 600. My 2nd was ninja 650. Both could easily be a great starter.
Very debated topic, in my case I'm about 135lbs and my 250 can hit 61/62 mph in 3rd gear maxing the rpm even in a slight up hill, but if you do mostly highway and are also heavier than me, I can understand why you would want a 400cc, but it would come down to fun, not safety, you can simply slow down if you simply want to cruise on the highway.
Been riding and racing for nearly 40years and love my cbr250r. 73000 on it I have a vfr800f as well 38000 on it. I don’t mind which one I ride

Where do you ride the small bike? I had a 300 and idk if it’s just the area I live in (tons of Chicago commuters who drive like a holes) but the bike was just not enough to keep me ahead of the pack

Ride my 250 everywhere. Love blowing off the big bikes on mountain roads. Have done lots of 400klm day rides on it.

Those Kawasaki 400's seem like the perfect bikes. Fast enough, not to fast and look good. Enduro's are great except for the fact that they don't have good street tires. The Suzuki drz supermoto 400 would be an awesome beginner/fun bike. It's just expensive for what it is., find a mint low miles one.

I did an MSF safety course on a 250 and bought a CBR500R. I was fine and I had to really yank on the throttle to pop the front wheel up. Yup. I bought a used one at half the price of a new one.

go old school......what used to be "grey market" 400's....now 25 years old and easily imported.......inline 400's ......fzr , gsxr. cbr, zxr.....all of them 45 to 60 hp .....rev to 15000 pm.......12 second quarter miles......easy.....ALL are way better than the new parallel twin offerings of today.....another thought is an 84 honda intercepter 500.....v45 engine is a good blend of low torque and high rpm hp..............

It all depends on your height, weight, and what terrain your riding. Crf230l for the win to learn on... then maybe a vulcan 750 for cruiser first, then maybe a gsxr 600 for learning a sport bike then as you get better you dont need a better bike. Gotta put in the hours though or your finished with any three of those bikes.
I started with a 07 Kawasaki EX500 Ninja, been riding it about 2 years, been a great starter bike, but now I wanna move up to a 600.
I have a wr250r and yes I can balance on one leg the unsafe problem is on uneven ground I dropped the bike twice due putting my foot down onto lower ground so u can say what u want but it is safer to put two feet on the ground and im into 5 months off work from fracturing my tibia in several places

Going to start on a mt-07. A used one, with abs. Had my driving lessons on it and i absolutely love it. This is also a bike you could begin and learn on and still keep you entertained. I think a 400 or less would bore me pretty quick.
Maddutchy I agree with this. I test drove the ninja 400 and ninja 650. I felt better on the 650 than the 400 cus it had more power and it was definitely a good learning curve. It’s a little bit bigger and heavier for my taste( I’m 5’10 140lbs) but I felt safe on it when I put it on the highway. I bought the 650 as my first bike. I didn’t want something I’d get bored with within a few months. I wanted something I could learn off for maybe two years or three and then hopefully gain enough confidence to get a bigger cc bike. The 650 fit in that category. Only problem with the 650 is it’s not extremely fast but it does has a bunch of torque that could scare new riders.
You don't need to jump from 40 to 120hp of the 600cc 4cyl, you can get a 650 twin with around 70hp, not too powerful, but enough to not get bored once you gain experience.
My first bike was a ninja 650, but I had dirt bike experience before that. In my opinion that bike is too heavy for beginners. You can do it for sure, but a lighter used bike would be much better to learn on. You can sell it once you get some experience and then get whatever you want.
I'm still on my 50cc scooter and im loving it, but get main brand one if thats what you want. But else i would recomend a 400cc like you did but i would only advice a 650cc to someone who is coming back to riding or coming of a 50cc scooter

1. Budget 2. What you can sell for, alot are sold shortly after ppl learn. 3. Application, one may keep a 250 dual sport around in the stable but sell a ninja 250 rite after leaning to ride. Either way get a bike!!
Start off on a bike small enough and cheap enough learn fundamentals ride in dirt so when u crash and u will it aint gonna break ya
I started on a Honda CBF 125, mainly because it only costed about 2k€ when it was new. After some years I switched to a Honda Transalp 650, bought it used for about 3k€ but it felt heavy and not very nimble. I was not happy with the way it rides so I sold it again. I did not quite know what's the bike to get for me but I found a CBR250R on the internet for 1800€ with new service and new tires... I thought what the hack, I'll get it and drive it until I know what I want. Turned out it's most of the time fast enough and until I find a good deal for a CBR 500R or CBR 600F, I'll keep it but I did not spend more than 3k€ on a bike so far, these are relatively simple machines and just not really worth so much money in my opinion.
I bought a 2015 Honda CBR300R as my first bike. I got a sick deal on it because the owner was pregnant and taking a year off riding at least. I was pumped at first bc those bikes look so sexy and it was so affordable to buy and insure. Thing is, if you’re used to driving a car (not even talking performance cars, I drive a Corolla) the 300 does not have enough torque to stay exciting to ride for months, definitely not years. After a couple months riding it I sold the bike to another beginner rider for a small profit. I am now saving up for a Yamah Tenere 700 to ride next year. Guys, if you really think you need a small displacement beginner bike just get a dual sport like cc says. The 300 and 250 class is just WHACK
300cc is okay, so is 400cc for starter.
250cc is okay on b roads or in town, but you're most likely to upgrade sooner.
What amazes me is the lack of performance on 250cc bikes these days.
My old CB250K1 could top 110 in 1973 , ok it had a full race fairing fitted,rear sets and clip on handlebars but never the less it was 50 years ago .
Mind you the twin leading shoe front brake made stopping at anything under 50mph vicious talk about lock up add that to the truly awful Japanese Bridgestone rubber and in anything other than bone dry roads it was like riding on an ice rink.

All good choices assuming Japanese designed. I've owned a CBR250R and currently own a Ninja 400 and a Ninja 1000. CBR250R is a great bike and is significantly underpowered IMHO. You will get passed by Prius'. Ninja 400 is a better first choice if you can afford ($6k new or $4k used). And you will not get passed by Prius'. And you'll probably hold on to it longer. If funds are lacking, consider a used or new old stock Ninja 300 or R3.
Started on a husquy Te 630, blowed up the engine so then jumped on an Aprilia dorsoduro 750, my dad killed me cause he did know that I went to 180kmh so then I had to sell it, and now I just bought a ktm 500exc to convert it supermoto during the winter. (All that in 7 months...)

What would you say about your head shape? I know you run that Nexx helmet and it's classified as "long oval" on places like Revzilla. Have you shopped around for long-oval specifically? I'm trying to do what I can to avoid throwing down 650 bucks on an Arai Signet-X to get something that doesn't give me forehead headaches.

So what's the difference between super motors and dual sports? Sorry I'm kinda new to the motorcycle world haha just learning info for when I'm ready to get a bike in a year or two
What type and size bike should address three questions. What style do you want? Will you most drive in cities, highway, country road or off road? What climate will you spend most of your time riding in?
The country I live in does not allow bikes over 250cc on public roads, only race tracks. This is because criminals use powerful bikes as getaway vehicles. Also bikes aren't allowed on the expressway here anyway. 110cc is the usual bike capacity and 250cc is pretty nippy on the main roads.
