Hey, Cyclecruza I've got a question for you: which Dual Sport is the best bang-for-the-buck for power to weight ratio, while also keeping to your staple of being "light"?
It depends on what you mean by "soul". Personally, don't like that bikes are now getting almost as "techy" as cars. But I do love the benefit of fuel injection and not EVER having to worry about messing around with a choke to get the exact air/fuel ratio juuuust right to get the bike to start, especially when it's cold out. I also love having an electric starter so I don't have to exhaust myself for 10 minutes on a kick-starter. I've also personally had ABS save my life not once, but twice, because I could grab that front brake with every bit of strength I had. If that's what "soul" is, I'd much rather deal with soul-less and spend the time riding.
Brotha Cruza...I hate to be the one to say it, but alot of these statements about european bikes comes from a deeply subconscious embedded 'superiority complex' that get's in the way of all sorts of truths not yet represented in the world of humans. The fact of the matter is, there's a reason why the big 4 japanese manufactures have the best reliability in the world. And it's not based on the superiority complex; it's simply based on 'what is'.....
I just sold my Hypermotard. That thing has cost me more in just 2 seasons and 5,5k km, than all of my japanese bikes (Z650, Z900, T7) combined over a span of 7 years. I loved riding it, it is insanely fun and has that something special, but the cost if ownership is just too high for me. I can afford it, but I would much rather put that money towards something else and not just maintenance for 1 bike.
@@EfferusZangetsu I hear that a lot. Honestly, it really isn't worth spending more money on the Ducati to deal with the issues and added cost. There is a reason everybody says to never buy a Ducati out of warranty and sell it before the warranty ends. 😂
@@CycleCruza If you want to use your money "smarter" (as far as that is possible for us riders 😆) japanese bikes are definitely the way to go. Currently I do have an Aprilia RS660 for weekend blasts with my buddies (so far much cheaper than the Ducati, and absolutely bomb proof). But I traded in my Hyper for a Ninja 1000SX for rides with my wife and as an everyday work horse.
Meh..Moto Guzzi’s seriously have more soul than all my Japanese bikes combined. R6, FZ09, Suzuki 250 enduro, Fireblade..they were all fun and refined. But Italians just are better at the character stuff🤷♂️
I changed sprockets on my r1 down 1 up 2 , cat delete , full toce exhaust , and ecu flash. It like a different bike. I got low end torque and I don’t find myself speeding around like I was. Now the bike probably tops out at 120
Interesting outcome. I've got a 14R, and I'm not hurting for torque anywhere. Its 100% stock. I was considering an exhaust and a Power Commander, but my bike (like any Sport, Super or Hyper bike) is focused on top end speed. But It's getting increasingly more difficult to find places to use that ability (even stock), so I was considering selling it.
Cruza!! I know what bike you should try next. Starkvarg and convert to supermoto. Zero maintenance, more horsepower than any dirt bike on the market, and something different for the channel. 👌👌
I feel like power, torque with the addition of sound make the character and soul of a bike. It seems like singles, twins, V4’s and the cross plane bring that aggressive burble we are all attracted to which sounds like mechanical music to our ears. Add on some good clean looks and that’s icing on the cake. Feel, sound, and looks.
I think for me it's I prefer the feel and sound of a V-Twin or L-Twin or V4. So I'm more committed to a sport bike with those engines, I have a Honda RC51 because it has a V-Twin, if it was an inline like the CBRs I would have passed it over. I prefer the visceral feeling as you have stated and that is more common place in Ducati/Aprilia.
The old Japanese motorcycles had more soul than the new ones. Every year they choke the new bikes up more and more. Eventually we'll all be forced to ride only electric motorcycles.
Breaking down and expensive maintenance is "character" ... being best friends with the mechanic at the dealer, why? Because your bike is full of character, that's why. Hahahahahah.
I agree that inline 4s (often in japanese bikes, yes there are some with v4 or v2) don’t have that much soul. I do like v2 or v4 (often used in italian or austrian bikes bikes - aprilia, ducati, ktm). Bmw is using a boxer engine and inline 4 (which I don’t like) Japan should build more v2 or v4 bikes. They know how to do it , but most of japanese bikes are inline 2 or inline 4s. Inline 4 is so interesting to me like butter on the bread.
There will always people who say European bikes have more soul than Japanese bikes. They're also the same people who use Ducati as an example and yes every Ducati just radiates soul and character. They also radiate massive heat because it's a really pretty oven disguised as a motorcycle. While certain Japan bikes are full of character and soul like the R6. It'll remain timeless and beautiful and be a testament to the best kinda middleweight 600cc sportbike.
People say that Japanese have no character because they dont really utilise the bikes which usually are inline4 to where they come into their own. Ofcourse it will feel soulless when it feels like a small slow car.
Modding bikes is pushed by the aftermarket pimps who will sell anything. This stuff is mostly non-engineered trash. Modern bikes have computers that can adjust fuel, timing, etc. When you mess with the fuel mapping, intake, and exhaust you throw OEM computer control out -- and maybe get a little more performance, but lose reliability and longevity. Whenever I look at a used bike I reject any that have engine "performance" mods. The most backwoods, Jethro-moron thing I see is airbox mods. Drill holes in the thing to make it "breath better." And in the process destroy intake resonance. Don't mod engineered products!
You can't prove a negative, and this indeed seems to be the favored course of action by European motorcycle aficionados. "Japanese motorcycle have no soul. Prove me wrong." --the person who owns a European motorcycle but is without a science degree. "Motorcycles have a soul. Here is the evidence." --any other reasonable person. It's almost as if we're using the scientific method by asserting a fact and then trying to prove that it is, indeed, a fact.
With all that being said, I have to ask, because I wonder: What the h*** happened to Suzuki?! Since quitting MotoGP, they're literally nowhere to be seen: World SBK, World SSP, British SBK, British SSP, MotoAmerica SBK & SSP, Supermoto, Motocross (various leagues). Is it dying or already dead?
