Lightspeed ALSO did something that, to my failing memory, other Power Rangers did not; it showed us the Rangers being TRAINED. They go through military fitness tests, shooting ranges, test drives, etc. These people did not start out skilled and experienced as soldiers, we got to see them molded into them, and it was GOOD.
Three of the five SPD rangers were shown training for years before they became active. We also see Jen and Ziggy getting training in their respective seasons as well.
I realy like the ending scene of this series. THey have handed over their morphers, yet still rush to help someone in need. They seem to have taken the Rescue part of their team name to heart. That makes them awesome.
I loved the team up episode, but for childish reasons. I was Heather's (the little girl's) age when the episode came out and I had a HUGE crush on Carter (actually I still do), so I wanted nothing more than to project myself onto her. Plus the creature Tacheena turned into reminds me of Biollante and I'm a HUGE Godzilla fan.

Lightspeed rescue came out one year before 9/11. If they did this kind of ending after it happened, it make sense but you could instantly tell they had to put it in. But because it hasn’t happened, it makes it powerful. It really shows that people have the power and willingness to go do something to help one another. Tgat and the fact that most of these guys ARE designated rescue workers. REAL people that toil away in hard blood sweat and tears to help in anyway they can. This, among many other reasons, made this season my CHILDHOOD POWER RANGERS.
I think I fell for Carter the same moment Linkara did. I was completely expecting during the first morph that Carter would do the same as every other red ranger. Fight me hand to hand, man to man! Carter Grayson: Why would I do that? I'm in a military vehicle I'm running them over! And I love how that attitude kept with Lightspeed. Most of the teams would fight a monster by whipping out swords or going at them with martial arts. Wait, you guys are done? Lightspeed: Yeah, we have guns so we just shot them before they could get close to us. Now, if you'll excuse us we're going to go rescue the people in the buildings your zords just knocked over.

Even before my 5th birthday when I used to watch prlr on VHS tapes I knew Carter was among the most badass rangers up there with Tommy (as zeo ranger 5 red) and Jason (mmpr red tyrano / red dragon thunder ranger)
I wish Link talked more about Bansheera. She was cruel and pure evil and did not care about anyone not even her own son. Sometimes you don't always need complex just menacing villains who make you love to hate them.

Linkara here is how I look at the Lightspeed & Lost Galaxy Team up 1. It's cool to see the Galaxy & Lightspeed Rangers finally meet up. 2. It's shocking to see that Trakenna survivived the final battle she had with Leo.
***** Well, it's pretty much an average season, but it actually does feel more like a re-visit to season one of MMPR, but with more of a "Thunderbirds"-esque theme in it. Hence the whole "Honor and respect" thing in the very first episode of Lightspeed Rescue. Plus, you'll get a kick when you watch Joel's antics in trying to score a date with Ms. Fairweather, since ironically, Zack (Mighty Morphin' Black Ranger) also tried to score a date with a girl named, "Angela". Get it?!
Yeaaah, probably some of the best designed. I remember how badly I wanted an action figure of Olympius and Diabolico as a kid, even thought I didnt like this season that much.
I thought the series villains were the best in PR history. Vypra was bleak but Queen B was easily the most "evil" and mature/menacing threat in PR history, maybe alongside say, Octomus. But laughing at her son being thrown into the Shadow realm after failing her, and her saying "Let him rot there forever" if memory serves characterised her as a megalomaniacal, socio/psychopathic threat! Not to mention both of her forms had excellent aesthetics (how fucking horrifying is her second "physical form"). I wont argue, Vypra was SHITE acting, but the other three were good, Diabolico, a capable militaristic leader and tactician, very much Bansheera's "best" follower (from her perspective) at least to begin with. Loki being the typical "thick muscle" cough cough GOLDAR cough. And Olypius as the childish, naive one, who matures a lot as it goes on, none the less still trying to garner the affection of his disinterested, narcissistic mother (who will happily play the mother card to get him to do whatever the fuck she wants) I mean, how many times did she say "my son" or "it is your mother" etc. All in all I was very impressed. Not to mention GREAT aesthetics. However, I may be seeing it through nostalgia laced eyes as it ire in 2000 when I was 7/8 so really this is the one I grew up watching and remember best. Also had a bitchin' PS1 game.
I agree with alot with what you said, for a long time Olympius was my favorite villain in Power History because of his aesthetics (a humanoid dragon) Bansheera was probably THE most evil villain in the entire Power Rangers history (a cruel, sadistic, megalomaniacal, demonic witch that relishes the suffering of others & seeing her underlings & even her son as tools to serve her purposes), not even Dark Specter (the monarch of ALL evil) seemed as bad as her, the only ones coming even close to her are Darkonda (manipulative, child-abducting bounty Hunter) Deviot (basically a watered down Darkonda) & Trakeena (AFTER fusing with Deviot).
The ending of this season is pretty damn dramatic. Their Zords getting hijacked and trapped in a flooding base... it's pretty intense for a kids' show!
That's pretty much every season finale. Remember Lost Galaxy? With the entire ship crashing onto an unknown planet? Or the original PR with the Command Center blowing up? That intensity in seasons finales is par for the course
I actually prefer the lack of a rock soundtrack in favor of the synth stuff. For me, the earlier seasons felt a bit more cheesy with the rock songs (like it was trying too hard to sound cool), and in here I love the triumphant and heroic feel of the music.
BlueflameKing1 RPM and Jungle Fury are self aware that they are part of silly show. Heck, RPM cast were proffesional drama actors so everytime we see them interacting we got some of the best drama scenes in Power Rangers history. Probably my favourite part of the season is backstory saga where every person in main cast(minus one, part of the story) has good reason to be part of the team. Also in Jungle Fury we have villain who tries to defeat inner demons. I couldn't find Wild Force, Overdrive, Mystic Force and first half of Zordon era as good as those two seasons.
Sailor Sedna Never understimated Carter just cause lightspeed rescue was not exactly the bests season ever(That honor of worst PR season goes to megaforce and overdrive)
So is anybody amazed that a show airing on Fox Kids could get away with actually calling its villains demons yet still couldn't use the word "kill"? I never got why there was such a move against that word. You have monsters going kaboom every episode, it doesn't matter if you say "kill" or "destroy" when death is a concept.
Part of the reason Lightspeed's source material didn't have a 6th ranger was because of its name "Kyukyu Sentai GoGoV" which translates to "Rescue Squadron GoGoV". However, "Go" is Japanese for the number 5 so part of the "pun" is in the title "5 5 5"
I think the reason a lot of people didn't click with Carter in Lightspeed Rescue was that he had a bit of... Captain America syndrome going on. He was always going to be the first in, last out, take the hit for the others, gooder than good one
They cast children in plots like this not because they think we want to see children acting and playing a role. They do it so we can see the grown up/young adult ranger doing acting that shows us how their character interacts with kids. Carter treated the girl with respect by believing her and immediately let her know he was going to investigate the monster and gave her something simple to do to feel like she has some control in the situation.
I will say that linkara had valid points. Sure the enemies were not the best (better than the neo Saban one.), the team was one of the best as a whole. Sure they weren't the most developed or proactive, but they were just great fighters and pretty awesome to see on screen. I'm surprised that the yellow ranger was one of the best in the season. The blaster action was also a nice touch and seeing the rangers save people was great.
Wait! W-w-w-w-w-w-w-wait a minute! I have watched "The Sorceror of the Sands" and the evil gatekeeper in that episode sounds a LOT like Zordon...! Huh...

What I like in Light Speed is more grounded similar or more to a Super Robot Style of story telling rather than overly Super Sentai style that is very cliche.. I hope they make another series like this with real functioning vehicle or zords with practical use and you'll feel that realism of the Giant Robots..
Chad's actor was a skilled martial artist in real life, which is why he had the odd combination of being a diver and a martial artist. The show's creative staff decided they had an actor who could do martial arts so they would write plots that allowed him to show them off. Given that I think this means they should have had his background being a Navy SEAL or something, that would make more sense.
I kinda like that mixed characterization. And it fits how Chad didn't dedícate himself to be a martial Artist 100%. Especially because that let him become a Life Guard in his appearance by the Time the Timeforce crossover took place if anything to try to meet again his mermaid love interés
You said in the previous episode that they wanted to have the shows after Lost Galaxy not connected to the previous Power Rangers. The crossover episodes fail the job then if that was the plan.
That lady that says "monsters aren't real", the Ninja Turtles, and even two of the Wind Ninja Power Rangers, do they all live under a rock considering how many times the Power Rangers have been in the news and I'm sure internationally even? Geez.

This is my third favorite season of Power Rangers as I like the idea of a public group of heroes acting as emergency responders. Though I like Carter as he does what every good leader of military unit is suppose to which lead from the front, he isn't my favorite character for the season. That would be Chad, I like his more quiet personality and how he had nothing to prove in life. My favorite example of this is when a macho jerk shows up to challenge Chan, they make it seem as though he's doing it get a girl, however the guy goes as far as let demons alter him so it may be linked to something deeper. When he tries to force Chad to fight him Chad just walks away feeling he has better things to do than show off, which he does he is protecting the city from monsters. This is something that isn't very often discussed especially in kids shows; the difference between someone playing at being a man and a person who actually is a man. Most think that being a man is showing how tough you are, but the truth is a person who is really tough only does what he needs to protect the people around him. Chad to me embodies that in this season.

That this inspired Troy to be the very Best fighter he could be while also trying to help people whenever he could and maybe was planning to become a cop (or the precursor to SPD) or a martial arts Teacher OR Even try to Join Operation Lightspeed Rescue (Especially if they he kept that characterization they wanted to give him of him moving to the city Megaforce takes places because his das was in military). Especially if Troy had met Carter in a Lightspeed Rescue tribute. Also, if they had Made Troy a Power Rangers walking encylopedia nerd (basically gave him Gokai Silver's characterization)
I too have often wondered how rangers know each other, though I think the Morphing Grid links all Rangers. It doesn't explain how some Rangers know each other and others don't but it's the best I got.
Do you think Linkara is aware that maybe a certain number of the audience for Power Rangers both back then and today are color blind and that's why the rangers announce what colors they are?
I actually really liked Vypra's car, the Vyprari. I don't get why Linkara hates it and wonders why a demon would drive a car around, since it's been shown in past seasons that villains would use objects common to humans as weapons, or as Zedd would do, turn them to monsters, so it's not weird to me at all that a demon like Vypra would take a piece of human technology and adapt it to suit her needs to take the heroes down.
***** It mostly was. Power Rangers is notorious for been a limited budget show (on par with dubbing anime) so reusing a props is common. In SPD, the reused the Space ranger helmets for the A-Squad Rangers (repainting the black rangers helmet green)
Mega is Greek for "big." Omega means "big O", as opposed to Omicron, meaning "small O." So, the Omega Megazord is the "Big O Big Zord", where "Zord" (derived from "Zordon") is a colossal assault vehicle.
I think it would have been so much cooler if in the fifth crystal when the grandmother showed up to rescue her granddaughter she grabbed the green crystal and morphed into the green starlight ranger as this would have been direct evidence of power rangers that predate the "original" power rangers something that is only hinted at as it is now also it would help explain her 180` attitude shift if she had been trying to keep that part of her life secret and would also hint that the female rangers are not always yellow and pink
Considering the Demons had a weakness to water it would have been difficult to write a story that emphasizes Chad's aquatic expertise with that weakness
um the reason that the rangers don't pull rank and clear the building is because the bad guys would have been on to them knowing about their plans and would have moved the operation quickly enough seeing as the rangers would spend more time evacuating the building rather than going for the bad guys and plus it could be a hostage situation would develop

You do remember that the worm hole appeared in the first episode of lost galaxy as that how Mike and I want say Leo got to Mirinoi to begin with to pull the Quasar Sabers out of the stone. It isn't a big leap to think that they have spent the year in between that they have tried to master it as a connection back on earth as a great deal of Terra Venture was destroyed and though they were designed as a colony ship they were still pretty bad off.
At least, Linkara did not suffer himself through the epic horror of awfulness that is known as Power Rangers Megaforce. It was basically Might Morphin, and to where the seasons got so much better than Mighty Morphin to go back to that was just so bad. There was so much they could have done with that season. Get some veteran rangers to play the entire cast, or better yet get people associated with them like their kids. I think the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers could have had kids at the point in time being that they were graduating High School in 1997. Have kids in their twenties. It could work just fudge the ages a little bit.
Actually he did, though he didn't make a review of it yet, which is scheduled to be released this Christmas. But he did give his general opinion on his twitter feed. It was a disappointment, but Operation Overdrive is still his least favourite.
Tom Williams Productions I know. They just didn't care about the anniversary, and only did that season to pander to the fans. They should have got a show runner who does care.
14:51 Actually the Sentai this takes footage from, I.E. Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive, actually had a sixth ranger equivalent, the Beast-Demon Hunter, that could have been potentially used. However, as far as I could find the original possessor of the Beast-Demon Hunter's powers only appeared in a movie set between episodes 18 and 19 of that Super Sentai season and died near the end of the film, and as far as I could find information wise is that the person who he passed the powers onto only briefly used the powers after acquiring them, which means there would have been little in the way of Sentai footage for them to use with the character. That, and given the name of the character something tells me they would have clashed more heavily with the overall theme of Lightspeed Rescue unlike the Titanium Ranger.
At first I agreed with his opinion on Captain Mitchell not explaining his orders. But then I realized this is a military operation and his orders shouldn’t be questioned that easily.

You know, It's worth noting that the Rangers of both Lost Galaxy and Lightspeed Rescue are all the same ethnicities respective to the colors.

both blue's are Asian
both greens are black
both yellows have brown hair
and both pinks are blonde
After that, no later season that had a core Green Ranger to be a black dude.

I agree with alot with what you said, for a long time Olympius was my favorite villain in Power History because of his aesthetics (a humanoid dragon) Bansheera was probably THE most evil villain in the entire Power Rangers history (a cruel, sadistic, megalomaniacal, demonic witch that relishes the suffering of others & seeing her underlings & even her son as tools to serve her purposes), not even Dark Specter (the monarch of ALL evil) seemed as bad as her, the only ones coming even close to her are Darkonda (manipulative, child-abducting bounty Hunter) Deviot (basically a watered down Darkonda) & Trakeena (AFTER fusing with Deviot).

The ending of this season is pretty damn dramatic. Their Zords getting hijacked and trapped in a flooding base... it's pretty intense for a kids' show!
That's pretty much every season finale. Remember Lost Galaxy? With the entire ship crashing onto an unknown planet? Or the original PR with the Command Center blowing up? That intensity in seasons finales is par for the course
Carter Grayson aka one of the most badass Red Rangers ever.
I actually prefer the lack of a rock soundtrack in favor of the synth stuff. For me, the earlier seasons felt a bit more cheesy with the rock songs (like it was trying too hard to sound cool), and in here I love the triumphant and heroic feel of the music.
everyone may find me weird when I say this but this is actually my favorite power ranger series. I don't know why but it is.
Same for me, but it's mostly because The zords are AWESOME. That and Carter is one of my favorite rangers.

BlueflameKing1 RPM and Jungle Fury are self aware that they are part of silly show. Heck, RPM cast were proffesional drama actors so everytime we see them interacting we got some of the best drama scenes in Power Rangers history. Probably my favourite part of the season is backstory saga where every person in main cast(minus one, part of the story) has good reason to be part of the team. Also in Jungle Fury we have villain who tries to defeat inner demons. I couldn't find Wild Force, Overdrive, Mystic Force and first half of Zordon era as good as those two seasons.

My guess is they sent the little girl to make her feel important, and because she would be less likely to be noticed. It's actually really sweet.
So is anybody amazed that a show airing on Fox Kids could get away with actually calling its villains demons yet still couldn't use the word "kill"? I never got why there was such a move against that word. You have monsters going kaboom every episode, it doesn't matter if you say "kill" or "destroy" when death is a concept.
Part of the reason Lightspeed's source material didn't have a 6th ranger was because of its name "Kyukyu Sentai GoGoV" which translates to "Rescue Squadron GoGoV". However, "Go" is Japanese for the number 5 so part of the "pun" is in the title "5 5 5"

I think the reason a lot of people didn't click with Carter in Lightspeed Rescue was that he had a bit of... Captain America syndrome going on. He was always going to be the first in, last out, take the hit for the others, gooder than good one
Who actually remembers the VHS thing with McDonald's
They cast children in plots like this not because they think we want to see children acting and playing a role. They do it so we can see the grown up/young adult ranger doing acting that shows us how their character interacts with kids. Carter treated the girl with respect by believing her and immediately let her know he was going to investigate the monster and gave her something simple to do to feel like she has some control in the situation.

I will say that linkara had valid points. Sure the enemies were not the best (better than the neo Saban one.), the team was one of the best as a whole. Sure they weren't the most developed or proactive, but they were just great fighters and pretty awesome to see on screen. I'm surprised that the yellow ranger was one of the best in the season. The blaster action was also a nice touch and seeing the rangers save people was great.

What I like in Light Speed is more grounded similar or more to a Super Robot Style of story telling rather than overly Super Sentai style that is very cliche.. I hope they make another series like this with real functioning vehicle or zords with practical use and you'll feel that realism of the Giant Robots..

Chad's actor was a skilled martial artist in real life, which is why he had the odd combination of being a diver and a martial artist. The show's creative staff decided they had an actor who could do martial arts so they would write plots that allowed him to show them off. Given that I think this means they should have had his background being a Navy SEAL or something, that would make more sense.
I kinda like that mixed characterization.
And it fits how Chad didn't dedícate himself to be a martial Artist 100%.
Especially because that let him become a Life Guard in his appearance by the Time the Timeforce crossover took place if anything to try to meet again his mermaid love interés

Been loving these! Been binge watching them today! Sorry that some of them are banned due to other country laws. But I love that you did/are putting these up.
This is my third favorite season of Power Rangers as I like the idea of a public group of heroes acting as emergency responders. Though I like Carter as he does what every good leader of military unit is suppose to which lead from the front, he isn't my favorite character for the season. That would be Chad, I like his more quiet personality and how he had nothing to prove in life. My favorite example of this is when a macho jerk shows up to challenge Chan, they make it seem as though he's doing it get a girl, however the guy goes as far as let demons alter him so it may be linked to something deeper. When he tries to force Chad to fight him Chad just walks away feeling he has better things to do than show off, which he does he is protecting the city from monsters. This is something that isn't very often discussed especially in kids shows; the difference between someone playing at being a man and a person who actually is a man. Most think that being a man is showing how tough you are, but the truth is a person who is really tough only does what he needs to protect the people around him. Chad to me embodies that in this season.
The BEST thing about Lightspeed rescue is that Rangers were 100% technological and yet the monsters were magic and shit..

I too have often wondered how rangers know each other, though I think the Morphing Grid links all Rangers. It doesn't explain how some Rangers know each other and others don't but it's the best I got.

I actually really liked Vypra's car, the Vyprari. I don't get why Linkara hates it and wonders why a demon would drive a car around, since it's been shown in past seasons that villains would use objects common to humans as weapons, or as Zedd would do, turn them to monsters, so it's not weird to me at all that a demon like Vypra would take a piece of human technology and adapt it to suit her needs to take the heroes down.

I think it would have been so much cooler if in the fifth crystal when the grandmother showed up to rescue her granddaughter she grabbed the green crystal and morphed into the green starlight ranger as this would have been direct evidence of power rangers that predate the "original" power rangers something that is only hinted at as it is now also it would help explain her 180` attitude shift if she had been trying to keep that part of her life secret and would also hint that the female rangers are not always yellow and pink

I always think that a two-parter is the best way to deal with the summer hiatus.
Considering the Demons had a weakness to water it would have been difficult to write a story that emphasizes Chad's aquatic expertise with that weakness
um the reason that the rangers don't pull rank and clear the building is because the bad guys would have been on to them knowing about their plans and would have moved the operation quickly enough seeing as the rangers would spend more time evacuating the building rather than going for the bad guys and plus it could be a hostage situation would develop

You do remember that the worm hole appeared in the first episode of lost galaxy as that how Mike and I want say Leo got to Mirinoi to begin with to pull the Quasar Sabers out of the stone. It isn't a big leap to think that they have spent the year in between that they have tried to master it as a connection back on earth as a great deal of Terra Venture was destroyed and though they were designed as a colony ship they were still pretty bad off.
At least, Linkara did not suffer himself through the epic horror of awfulness that is known as Power Rangers Megaforce. It was basically Might Morphin, and to where the seasons got so much better than Mighty Morphin to go back to that was just so bad. There was so much they could have done with that season. Get some veteran rangers to play the entire cast, or better yet get people associated with them like their kids. I think the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers could have had kids at the point in time being that they were graduating High School in 1997. Have kids in their twenties. It could work just fudge the ages a little bit.
Actually he did, though he didn't make a review of it yet, which is scheduled to be released this Christmas. But he did give his general opinion on his twitter feed. It was a disappointment, but Operation Overdrive is still his least favourite.
I feel so bad for him having to sit through all of Power Rangers and do this for us. I stopped watching after two episodes.

14:51 Actually the Sentai this takes footage from, I.E. Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive, actually had a sixth ranger equivalent, the Beast-Demon Hunter, that could have been potentially used. However, as far as I could find the original possessor of the Beast-Demon Hunter's powers only appeared in a movie set between episodes 18 and 19 of that Super Sentai season and died near the end of the film, and as far as I could find information wise is that the person who he passed the powers onto only briefly used the powers after acquiring them, which means there would have been little in the way of Sentai footage for them to use with the character.
That, and given the name of the character something tells me they would have clashed more heavily with the overall theme of Lightspeed Rescue unlike the Titanium Ranger.
