      Edit: I talk to the adult lizards too but I don't fret about them.

    Thank you for listing all the plants. As far a I know, I have not seen a native nursery near me. I will have to research this. Thanks for all the info. I especially liked the part at the end that showed how you were planting them in the beds.

      You're welcome Becky! Check FANN website and just google search native nursery near me. Hope that helps. I'm glad you liked me showing some layout. This Friday, I will have a much deeper dive video how to make wild flowers look more "wild" with some landscape placement. I think you'll enjoy it!

    Oh, wow!!!!! I’m loving all of your plant choices! It’s going to look so lovely and I think purple and yellow looks so pretty! I see purple and yellow paired together along the roadsides and it fields all the time!! - I have that wild petunia and its such an interesting looking plant, even without the flowers! Your visit to Little Red Wagon answered a question that I had! I have woodland phlox and oblong-leafed twin flower growing together in my front yard but I didn’t know their names! LOL! - Thank you for the detailed descriptions of what you bought!!! I know that you are making a difference in encouraging others to grow Florida native plants!!!!!!!!

      YAY! Thank you Amy! Choosing is soooo hard! My guess without seeing it... would be phlox (woodland phlox). You can see a version of it in the video. I actually got a video of it because a lot of people have been asking me what is growing on the road right now 😂. It is hard to tell since we're all driving so fast on the roads that it grows.

    Well your nursery is way more helpful, because the nurseries in CA do not have that much variety. Nor do they care about wildlife and butterflies. At least where I live, no matter where you go. So I can see why I haven’t seen the monarchs yet. Also the butterfly bushes don’t feel like blooming yet

    I enjoy your videos! I was wondering if the wild petunias you got are non-invasive type petunias? They look so similar to Mexican petunias that keep popping up in my yard and I found out that’s considered invasive in Florida…

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  2 года назад +1

      Hi Yuko! Great question. The type I bought are Florida native wild petunias. They are similar, but I find the mexican petunias are a much darker purple and the leaves are very different... and mexican petunias can grow 3 feet to 5 feet tall. They have some similarities but if you have native wild petunias then that is very exciting!

    What do you suggest for figuring out what would be best for landscaping Native in an HOA? My backyard is free game but the front still needs to be manicured to an extent - I am having trouble determining sizes of certain plants. For example, what to use as background shrubs, middle area medium height flowers or shrubs, and small/shortest flowers to put in the front. Suggestions? Sucks to buy natives with no real layout or structure to planting them, especially when you wanna buy ‘em all!!!!

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  2 года назад +2

      I would first start with your CCR to see what is approved for your front yard. It is required by law to have, at a minimum, Florida Friendly plants... but there may not be any florida native plants that are approved. There are some tools on Florida Native Plant Society website to figure out what plants work best for your area. When it come to larger shrubs that can be neat and tidy... yuapon holly, firebush, walter's viburnum... Or bahama cassia... then middle height... coontie, pineland lantana, white lantana (buttonsage).... focal point simpson stopper.... then I would consider native porterweed or dune sunflower or sunshine mimosa in front for ground cover. Then consider adding some annual wildflowers in the groundcover.

      Though not native, most native plant growers also grow old fashioned red pintas because they’re not invasive & bloom most of the year. The old fashion variety gets taller than cultivars & are far more robust & produce much more nectar. They make a beautiful back or middle ever green bush/“shrub”. I’m always pushing the old fashion pintas because they’re such a reliable nectar source as my natives go through their bloom cycles. The old fashion pinta also comes in pink. They grow up to 4 feet tall - though it takes a season or two to reach their full height.

    What are your thoughts on the Giant Milkweed? Just found some up here in the panhandle (Zone 8a).

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  2 года назад +1

      Giant milkweed is not native but is considered Florida Friendly. I read that grows best in zone 9, 10 and 11. I wonder if it will die back in your area. I also wonder at how it impacts migratory monarchs because in my area it doesn’t die back (and that is an argument against Tropical milkweed). So overall I have no strong feeling, but I prefer to support native. BUT you may want to pass since it may die on you… or make it an experiment on its tolerance to cold 🥶 😊
