  • I'm surprised how difficult it is to get a job in HGV driving. If you're in the trade and have any suggestions please get in touch.

    Also check with local cartage companies. A smaller cartage company that just runs LTL around the city will be more likely to hire you as well. This is also a great way for you to build up driving hours and get experience. If you can manage to run LTL around the city and not kill yourself destroy the equipment or kill anybody else it will make you a much better driver once you hit the highway

      I'm getting in touch with all the local companies to see if they have anything.

    In North America most of the larger carriers are self insured and can take people with less than one year after they pass a few tests and a driving test. They might even have to go out on the road with a trainer for a week or two before they get their own truck. Maybe check with some of the larger carriers there and see if the same applies

    Its difficult to get experience if nobody takes a chance on you. Keep plugging away John. I am a great believer in fate and it will happen eventually for you. 👍

    after the hgv driver shortage during lockdown, they started giving away licences, car B straight to CE, so now the market is flooded. i passed my CE just after the shortage ended, so i was in the same position you are. in spite of having my C and D entitlements for 30 years, no company seemed interested in giving me a chance at CE. during the shortage, they would have fallen over themselves to get a new pass driver, now its the other way round. i gave up on getting a CE job, now im a back up hgv driver for a water company, so i drive a grab lorry, ie C with a clamshell hiab ticket. im kind of glad it worked out that way

    A lot of the large mega carriers here will take you right out of school and put you in one of their trucks with a trainer for three or four weeks and then give you your own truck once you pass their checklist. Start asking the bigger companies if they have this kind of program.

    Huge issue in the industry in the now flooded driver market!!!!
    It was the same when I passed mine mate 7 years ago.
    I’ll give you a few agency’s that take on new passes (or at least did) won’t be the greatest work but will get experience.
    Or If you want to work away local company in hudds who certainly was looking.

    If you are going to be driving a HGV, then please remember how a merge in turn works. So many truck drivers block the road 800m before the merge which is nonsensical. Best regards.

    This is a global issue in recent years. I never did the same to ppl, but I've heard or saw infinite samples like this. Also I've read other comments too and Sterling's live stream idea is most logical way to figure it out, bcs this is gonna really long topic mate. Peace out for now 👊

    You say some companies take on new starters, I guess you have to suck it up, get the experience and then move on to something else?!

    • @NerdInMotion23
      @NerdInMotion23  3 месяца назад +1

      It's looking that way. But you can't get the experience if you can't get the drive.

      @@NerdInMotion23 what I mean is, you’ll have to go with the companies that do take on “green” drivers (presumably they’re sh!t to work for, or sh!t pay, (or both!)). Gain some driving experience, and then go to work for someone else (or yourself?).
