He is so paranoid and afraid of being oppressed that his mindset warps and he thinks the only way to protect himself is to oppress others. This entire reboot is about him realizing he has to be better than that. It only perpetuates a cycle of hatred. What Israel is doing to Palestinians (what pre Magneto would do to regular humans) just creates new enemies. The best way to end the cycle is to work tirelessly to prevent the hatred from spreading. Ignorance is hatred's strongest fuel. There's a reason there are plenty of anti-Zionist Jews protesting against the Israeli government.

All the characters in this show look like they were designed to be made into action figures. It’s part of the haminess of the X-Men TAS/‘97 setting. Characters are ripped, Cyborg dramatically challenges X-Cutioner, and Master Mold is a colossal robot that pulls giant robots out its chest.
Along with that, though, are strong character moments and emotional beats. The show has some of the over-the-topness of the Silver Age and the strong characterization of early 2000’s cartoons. To paraphrase a commentator on a different website, X-Men ‘97 is haminess played straight.

It’s.. a design. I like it. Very clearly… provocative isn’t the right word but I don’t know a better one. He’s masculine. Good lord look at his arms for that. But also feminine, long hair, lip stick. Etc. It fits of someone who is proud and free to be who they are, damn what society says. “I’ll have long hair and make up and even if I am pushing 70 I’ll be more fit then most in there 20s because that is who I chose to be”

I feel like OG comic magneto wasn't Ian McKellen old, probably was more early 40s. This version of Magneto is probably in his early 50s
I think I heard that due to his powers, Magneto can use the magnetic fields as energy to increase his metabolism and thus convert to lean muscle and energy. Magneto was 9 years old during the Holocaust, so in 1997, he's about 65 years old.

I really didn't expect that costume to translate well in animation. Magneto has the gravitas of a senior homosexual from the Stonewall era

the design is brilliant, because it has all the dark triad facial features, in terms of shapes, but the coloring of his hair and eyes are literally opposite of the dark triad, so it produces this effect, i don't know how to describe it, it's not uncanny valley, but something else.

How is the dark triad in facial features? He's only manipulative because he was incentivized to via surviving one and a half genocides. He's just handsome and has Rizz. It isn't a superficial charm; He is charming and has too much truth in him for it to be shallow.

It's a steep contrast in patterns that basically screams 'I'm unpredictable' and it's a really sick design
Stand out character of this new show by far. People can change and become better. The writers remembered that, and brought that out beautifully.

As someone who has seen the original show all the way through twice in the last few years and finds TAS Magneto to be his favorite on-screen iteration of the character, I am so glad they kept him this bad@$$ and fleshed out, and I can tell that the writers understand the original show and its take on the characters. Magneto is a fleshed out revolutionary, and Cyclops is an actual bad@$$ on screen again 👍
