    For those who are new to Ubuntu, I have a important warning. Right now the newer version of Ubuntu is the release called Noble release. Please do not use that until it gets fixed. It is currently getting PPA errors which is very dramatic to solve. Thank me later.

      @@abbas9001 I gave up and went with Linux Mint, but I ended up having it installed on an SD card instead, for some reason Mint when I try installing Mint alongside Windows there's some error and won't let me install, maybe my partions are in a configuration Linux doesn't like, so I have it on an SD card and boot from it when I want Linux. I really don't want to wipe my hard drive and start over for this.

      @@abbas9001 I had the same issue. Something to do with the wireless module. Seems to install after disabling both Bluetooth and WiFi. This issue isn't present on Ubuntu 22.0.4 and Linux Mint.

      @@zulhailmieI also have the same issue, I've seen people have been complaining about this for a long time now, what leads me to think that solving this issue isn't a priority for the developers... I was trying to dual boot Ubuntu with windows 11 on a galaxy book. But i keep getting "we don't know what went wrong" every single time and no other option than rebooting and trying again, which is a fantastic message to get, as you can imagine

    • @NerdOnTheStreet
      @NerdOnTheStreet  4 месяца назад +3

      I haven't personally used it. I think it's a semi-reasonable business model that's similar to how Red Hat operates RHEL in some ways. On the other hand, I think e.g. kernel live patching is something that's mostly useful for servers and not entirely relevant for desktop/laptop usage, and I think the fact that they withhold _security_ updates from non-subscribers (after doing the work of preparing the updates) is bad optics for Canonical.
      As a maintainer of Pop!_OS (at my day job, which is not affiliated with this channel), I will say the level to which Canonical tied Ubuntu Pro services and advertising into the Ubuntu metapackages and basic packages such as apt has been extremely annoying at times. Pop!_OS has ended up having to do a lot of whack-a-mole work trying to suppress advertisements for services that don't work on Pop!_OS anyway. However, the implementation makes sense from their perspective, and dealing with that sort of thing comes with the territory of being a derivative distribution.
      Reading the current terms of service for the personal (free for 5 machines) Ubuntu Pro subscription, I don't see anything that suggests it's not allowed to be used for commercial usage-- only that it's limited to 5 machines (per legal entity) and that it's provided as-is/with no warranty. So if you're actually daily driving Ubuntu, I'd see no reason not to sign up for the personal account and see if you notice any of the features. (I remember having an Ubuntu One account that I signed into on my Ubuntu installs back when that was an actual service; it was obviously a different type of service, but I had no problem creating an account with Canonical.)

      On installation menu, go to advanced installation, 2 erase the partition, 3 put signal + create a new efi partition with 500 mb and after that create ext4 , point / and click install. It will work but remember, use 22.04 because 24.04 will not work mbr partition. I solved this with this procedure. Good luck. In your case create a efi partition with 500mb all manually.

    I use Ventoy ISO boot loader. I didn’t like it. I went back to 2204 because there was no option for Python3 3.10.

    • @NerdOnTheStreet
      @NerdOnTheStreet  5 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah, Ubuntu 24.04 ships Python 3.12.3 (while 22.04 ships Python 3.10.6, as you said). A minor version bump like that doesn't seem like it should be a huge deal, but then again, I'm not primarily a Python developer.
      I will say that staying on an older OS version just for the Python version it ships seems a little overkill and certainly unsustainable over the long term. If you really need to stick with one specific version of Python, you might eventually want to look into solutions like Docker/Podman containers or at least Distrobox to let you run Python 3.10 in an Ubuntu 22.04 environment from a newer OS version (or any other OS entirely).

      For an issue like that, you're definitely going to want to include what specific model of laptop you have when you ask questions about it.
      The first troubleshooting step I'd take is to boot the system, run "sudo journalctl -f" in a terminal, then see if relevant-looking output shows up at the moment when the touchpad stops working.
