    Uggg this just happened to me. Three breaks at the distal end of the tibia and fibula. Just had surgery. I was hiking off Mount Baker when it happened, foot stuck in a root on the trail, i fell and the foot didn’t. 8 hours later the helicopter arrived and surgery happened 2 days later. Thanks so much for posting your experience. I’m still having PTSD surrounding what happened…. Long road ahead.

    • @CanInelli
      @CanInelli 3 месяца назад

      I also have distal tibia and fibula fractures just 1cm above the ankle. I had surgery 14 days ago. How is your recovery progressing? How long does it take to get back to walking without any support?

    • @Pharmerlynda
      @Pharmerlynda 3 месяца назад +1

      @@CanInelli so my fractures were end of august 2023, I was non-weight bearing for 8 weeks. I was walking literally the day after the 8 weeks off. I used a trekking pole for probably that first day. Mine was a bimalleolar fracture with a fibula fracture. I had no problem balancing for 30 secs on the broken foot at the 8 week mark too. I was put in a boot on that day. 1 month later they took me out of it and gave me a support brace if I wanted it and I could walk and wear shoes no problem. I am climbing mount whitney and mount rainier this summer and I’m in Tucson training for a month climbing and hiking on lots of uneven territory. Best advice I can give you is do everything your PT tells you, commit 100% and also get your range of motion back to normal. Be patient and focus on other things while you are non-weight bearing. I read a lot and just tried to keep a positive attitude. I think the universe was trying to tell me to slow down last year, lol. You’ve got this!!! I just shattered my tibia and broke the neck and head of fibula. My knee was also impacted and fractured.. when you said it didn't really hurt, I thought "Dang, he's a true warrior". Lol. I wad flown to Vanderbilt and my ginormous external fixator was done by Dr. Stinner.. it's been 2 1/2 weeks, but I'm still way too swollen for the fixation surgery, which was a huge bummer. When you mentioned Nashville, I felt the need to comment and ask how you were doing, and who did your full fixation surgery.. Dr. Stinner will be on vacation, so Dr..Ombrecht will do mine on 7/3. My fixator involves my femur, and I just realized I can't upload my x-rays.. Hoe were things post op for you?

    I just had a fibula and tibia fracture. No screws or rod were needed. I just wanted to ask can you walk straight after recovery? Is there a difference between before and after the accident?

    I broke my Tibia and Fibula walking down some stairs while I was in Mexico a little over five months ago, and let me tell you it was a painful experience especially during the first month I finally left Mexico a month ago, and because I was in Mexico City the elevation was screwing up my body and preventing me from healing properly but now that I'm back in America things are getting better.
    I can limp around now but I still have to use my walker and my powered wheelchair to get around the swelling is still there so I don't know? I would have been back to normal already but due to all those months in Mexico city it slowed the down the healing process because of I being 8000 ft above sea level any advice you could give me would be most appreciated thanks and please tell me when will the swelling go away so I can start walking again.
