Broke my tibia and fibula on left leg November 2023 and got emergency surgery to put a permanent titanium rod in my leg the entire length of my tibia with screws into the tibia. In March 2024, I'm walking almost normal, getting range of motion back knee and ankle (they put rod in through knee). Working on body squats to build strength, been swimming, hiking, elliptical, riding a bike along with my PT exercises. Been rough journey
Hey man, I got the exact same surgery with a rod inserted through the knee, it’s been two years now and I still can’t run and pain every step i take, can you walk and tun without pain? Feels like my knee is fucked for good :/
You're lucky that you're almost recovered after a year and a bit. It's been the same amount of time for me and I'm still very limited in my motion. U got a better case of it than u realize
7 months since i broke my tibia/femur after reading the comments I didn’t know so many people had to go through this. I salute everyone!!! Trying my best to be able to run again, but I’m still trying get more range I’m my ankle as well
For me now 7 weeks completed, but x-rays doesn't show any bone healing, no sign of union at fractured part, doctor asked me to keep foot 🦶 with partial load on floor. Any idea when bones get union? And I can keep foot on floor and walk very slowly but ankle and knee is stiff. Knee feels like overloaded. Let's see. Any updates from anyone who is recovering or recovered 🙏 please reply.
I broke my tibia and fibula on August 26th and had surgery on the 29th, where a titanium rod and several nails were inserted into my tibia for stabilization. During the first week after surgery, my ankle and knee were completely immobilized. However, my knee gradually regained its full range of motion within about a week, and after a month, thanks to physiotherapy, my ankle's mobility improved to about 70-80% of what it was before the injury. I’m now able to walk without crutches, bearing full weight, though I get fatigued easily and experience soreness and some swelling after just 5-10 minutes of walking. For anyone going through a similar recovery, remember you can do it!
After breaking my leg 6 weeks ago, I am now full weight-bearing and was desperately seeking exercises to help me get back to "normal" until I can get into physical therapy in a few weeks. These exercises are SUCH great ideas. Thank you so much, Zack!
hello i just had knee bone surgery a week ago,but i can't still raise my left leg by my self.😢my thigh still no power to lift up my leg.pleaseee help, first time had surgery in my life😢😢
Just got the surgery a week ago after breaking my left tibia getting bumped by a car while on a bike. It was amazing to me that the next day after surgery the hospital PT came in to teach me how to use crutches and I could actually move around. Thanks for the mobility exercise variations! Not yet at a point where the leg is load bearing, but will get there Speedy recovery to everyone!
Hey I too got a comminuted fracture (left leg tibia) under similar circumstances. Got a titanium plate n 8 screws. After 3 days of the major surgery I started moving with crutches (non weight). I have been suggested 4 weeks more rest. Do share your updates it will be helpful 🙂 also wish everyone a speedy recovery.
@@debolinarajak8098 will do! It's honestly been so comforting to know others are going through this too. Also got a titanium nail, altho only 4 screws as far as I can tell. Just had my follow-up a few days ago (they took out the staples from the surgical scar!), all seems to be in line at least; though, because of the bone being kinda shattered there seems to be a little bump in the front of my shin that's made out of "leftover bone"? Idk. Non-weight bearing for now. Another follow-up in 6 weeks. I've been trying to get out, walk to the park on the crutches (5 min "normal human" walking, closer to 10 for me). Sadly also damaged my shoulder which has no fracture but really hurts, so Im hoping to start PT next week to at least fix my shoulder, since I think it's too early to work on the leg with PT, who knows. Wishing you a speedy recovery, keep me posted, as well! What have you been doing with your bedrest time? I try to be productive but too many days just sleeping... trying not to watch too many youtube shorts lol. cheers!
@@zhl9764 how are you feeling? First few weeks are so rough imho. I'm about 2.5 months into my journey and starting to walk without crutches when I'm home, it's honestly surreal. Bodies heal!
❤❤omg thank you i broke my tib/ fib but i was smart enough not to let them do surgery self-healing is the best healing and i got it right. 5 months doing just fine. But my physical therapist sucks i got more from your vidioes than him😂😂i love doing the foot ABC.
broke my tibula and fibia 5 months ago skating , surgery went well and everything thankfully, but now im having these knee pains and ankle pains after trying to consistently skate again, gonna try these exercises to see if they get better, really appreciate the thought and effort that went into this u helping a lot of people dude. wish everybody in here the best in their recoveries🏃🏾♂️🏃🏾♂️🏃🏾♂️🦿🤞🏽🪄🐐
I am almost entering my third month post-surgery. I can do shadow walk two days ago. And now I re-teach my brain how to walk with 2 foot on the floor (I still used crutches too) and tell my brain where is my "normal middle point actually". My ankle was dislocated too, and of course it was very stiff at first when trying to learn to walk again. Some physiotherapy movement from youtube videos are so much help. Now I feel my ankle is back to its original position. Of course it hurts a lot as the joints and muscles start return to their original position. For those of you that have tibia fibula fracture and also ankle dislocation, this video is really help me to recover faster. I suggest you also listen to your orthopedics and physiotherapist. You have to be able to measure your own body's capabilities. Little by little try to push the limits that you can still accept. Our body's healing from broken bones is amazing. Keep up the good work!
Broke my Ankle, Tibia and Fibula on 3rd December 2023. They attempted to manipulate my Tibia bone back together 3 times while awake as my Tibia cracked in half and I couldn't have the operation straight away due to the swelling etc. I had my operation on 15th December 2023, I had a plate and 8 screws put in. I'm still at the start of my recovery and in discomfort and pain. Never felt pain like it, and I have had a child. Absolutely craaazy pain. I will do these exercises when I am able to. 😊
Thank you so much! I was so grateful when I found this. I too broke tibia and fibula and humerus on left side. I'm older, yet was quite active before I fell. I'm seeing a great Physical Therapist 2x a week and doing much at home. I've had to back off because I overdid. Rest and sleep are huge. I am hoping for a complete recovery! I must be patient. I love your post op share too. It's true. Scary and feeling alone at times. I'll be back Zach!!!
Thank to everyone who has shared / commented. I had been feeling so alone on this. I have a Left Tibial Plateau Fracture, 12 days ago. Pain was excruciating. Fortunately not requiring surgery. Basic healing time 6-12 weeks + P.T. Especially helpful are words of healing, progression, hope & encouragement. Best wishes to all.
My car tire ran over my left leg and broke both the tibia and the fibula bones about 7 weeks ago. I did not need to have surgery, but I did get get a graduated cast, from groin to ankle. I was hospitalized for 3 weeks and I received physical and occupational therapy. I cannot go home yet, because I cannot walk up and down my stairs. I am at my daughter’s apartment and I am receiving therapy on an out patient basis. I am still non-weight baring, and there is still quite a bit of swelling in my ankle and foot. I am looking forward to trying some of these exercises as soon as my doctor tells me too. By the way, I am 80 years old, and I was walking 10,000 steps per day whenever the accident happened.
Thank you so much for sharing your insights to this life altering situation... I recently broke my Fibula and Tibia in 4 places and had the rod and plate installed... I had also had recently changed jobs and my health insurance had not kicked in...I still had 60days...so, with that said... I could not afford a therapist to assist me with any physical therapy.. With the help of your videos, I have regained feeling, movement and strength that I was struggling to get back... I absolutely can not thank you enough ❤
I have broken both of my fibulas :( and had to get surgery on both feet. they were about one year apart unfortunately, which was a struggle. This video is very helpful and reminds me to be patient, thank you .
Thank you for sharing ❤ I broke my tibia three months ago and opted for non surgical management as I was told I was too small for a tibial nail! Today was my first day out of a cast into a moon boot, but there’s still a long way to go until I regain my muscle back. 💪
Took an unfortunate fall bouldering with some friends. I had a rod inserted “bone glue” done. First two weeks were miserable. Week 3 of a compound tib fib fracture currently. I’m able to walk with a limp while reinforced in a boot. I find the movement of ankle and toes are the hardest thing right now. Going to try these! I wish everyone looking at this video the best, and just know it gets better. 🙌🏼
@INSΦMNIAC thanks for sharing some info. I don’t have much pain in my knee and thankfully these past 3 weeks I didn’t suffer from pain. What I do feel is my knee very stiff and I don’t have much movement on it. I’ve search here on RUclips and ask others what they did but mostly is just for the foot. However I’m doing movement every day and recently started working out my ankle as well. I hope you have a great recovery and you can get back to normal life soon!! Blessings friend!! 🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing, i broke my tib/fib last Thursday so i am 2 days out from surgery. Im glad to hear 3 weeks might feel like a little turning point, i will for sure take it slow just hate the pain and immobility…. Would love to hear your progress….
Spiral broke both of mine as well with no insurance - had a rod, plate, and about 13 screws put in. I’m about 4 weeks out and since I can’t afford physical therapy I’m devouring all information I can on rehabilitation. This has already greatly improved my range. Thank you so much for this.
Thank you so much for this video, Zack. It helped me contextualize the degrees of swelling/stiffness once I was in the rehab phase of my recovery from a fibula break. The band work is my favorite as it allows for a low-impact way to address multi-directional exercises. I've discovered that simply walking up and down steps is a good way to address both strength and mobility concerns. I used my trekking poles early on, just to be safe. Thanks again for helping us all get strong after injury.
Ma sha Allah. I also have a tibia and fibula fracture I was operated 2 months ago I can’t move my ankle and it’s only on the tibia bone that I have rod I don’t know if it’s a problem
MA, I can’t run yet and it’s been 3 months I broke my tibia but I didn’t need surgery so I had to non weight bear for 6 weeks which caused my ankle to stiffen up. How can I fix this issue? I’m able to walk but the stiffeness around the ankle restricts me
@@abdulsamadalfarissalman5176hi, same here tib fib fracture but only rod in tibia, Im 7 weeks post op and my ankle and knee are stiff, how is your ankle mobility now and is your fibula healed?
Left leg Tibia and Fabula Bone Broken surgery done by inserting Road aand nut bolt inside. And within too months I start walking with one side support... regular exercise, Meditation, physiotherapy and diet most important medicines like cissus Quadranglularis tab work a lot. Really it works always believe in yourself and never lose hope.
This is fantastic and combines very well with my tibial plateau workout. I just got off crutches this week. I also suffer from severe foot/ankle arthritis and need to be able to run to show my dogs.
How r you now? I just broke by tibia and fibula after summiting mount baker, I tripped badly and broke them. Im 2 days out of surgery and the pain is pretty bad, trying to not go overboard with the opiates. Would love to hear how its been going for you…
@@bryangomez4998Ye I just fractured the growth plate in my shin part of my tibia back in August during a football game, if you’re young you will 100% make a full recovery
Just make sure that you are doing the correct exercise and don't get lazy. Remember, consistency is key to a full recovery. Do your amount every day and continue progressing.
I broke my tibia/fibula open fracture 2 weeks ago. Thank you for posting this, I'm going to practice these exercises. I need to regain flexibility in my ankle to start off
Tibia plateau fracture here with titanium plates and screws , doctor said there was absolutely no other choice the CT scan showed a shattered plateau I am all by myself with some support from friends and terribly terrified when I start this - I'm 10 days post op and I've been doing the toe curls, ankle circles, and flexing+relaxing my muscles several times a day , I want to recover as fast as possible I will save this video 🙏
You have given me a little bit of hope. I mountain climb and I had a nasty fall on the 27th Nov 2022. Broke my tib and fib had surgery on the 3rd December with plates and pins so I’m very early in my recovery and currently in a cast. I’m managing to do non weight bearing exercises as I’m not wanting to completely sit still as I feel recovery will take longer.I’ll be sure to follow some of yours once I can weight bear… your recovery is inspiring and with your break very similar to mine it just makes me feel better knowing I will get back to some sort of normal. 💚
I broke my tibia and fibula on Dec 14 while riding a PE equipment at work my right foot slide off the platform sending the equipment slamming into the guard rail my foot was caught between the rail and the equipment. I tell you the pain sometimes is straight from hell and I'm just one week in a 4mnths recovery. But this video I'll definitely be watching when it's rehab time
i got broke my tibia and fibula also 6 months ago by motorcycle accident And i can walk already but not as normal one :( now I find this channel and video and I felt got new hope and happy. Surely i will do this series of exercise. I have one question though, Is it necessary or which is better? Removing the implant steel or not?
Hello how are you improving ur walking it's been 2.5 months for me i had a tib fib fracture and walking with stick slowly but while walking or feel pain in my calf muscles and below calf muscles
Praying for everyone who have also undergone bone surgery... I am on my 11th month today after I got my tibial shaft intramedullary nailing procedure. I am still experiencing discomfort and minor pains but I am coping up.. I know things will eventually get back to normal.
Thank you. I am recovering from a tib/fib fracture right now and have just started to put full weight bearing. I'm a lot older than you and this has been much more difficult than I imagined.
These are great ideas. I'm 59 and broke my tibia in one spot and fib in 2 spots. It was last April 2022. No physical therapy because we had no insurance. So these exercises will help me
Thank you - I live in Portugal and fell 3M (about 11 ft or so) off a cliff and have a compound tibia fracture. The care here is awesome but there are public (free) and private systems. The emergency brought me into public but because it is so backlogged, the have no PT scheduled for 3-4 weeks out. I had 2 surgeries (the second invloved inserting a nail from knee down), Anyway, I am trying to get dovetailed into private system but it takes time and I needed some form of exercise while I wait. I so appreciate the foot and ankle exercises and am starting to do them. I had heard with a nail, one can apply more weight but, I'll wait till I get advised from PT. For now it's limited crutch walking and your (foot/ankle) exercises till I get a set plan..so thank you for helping me in recovery while I await a more definitive plan.
Thank you for showing these very useful exercises! I wish my physical therapist would have taught me something like that, not just how to walk with crutches 😅 I will start practising and hope it will boost my recovery from a similar injury to yours ❤ Greetings from Germany!
Relatively minor tibia fracture after getting hit by a car 8 weeks ago. Finally confident enough to navigya grw stairs without assistance so I'm not stuck in the house all day. Start formal PT in about a week.
Thanks for this video man. It’s been hard to find first hand information, I have been non weight barring for 5 months and am having a hard time. I will try all these exercises. Thank you
Thanks for these exercises! I am at 4 weeks since I broke it. Had surgery the next day. Tib and fib break really bad with a tibia plateau fracture as well. 2 plates 15 screws. First 2 weeks were very hard. Pain is no longer a big issue. I’m not weight bearing yet but I’m keeping my knee and foot moving a lot so as not to build up too much scar tissue. Getting pretty good on crutches. Looking forward to being able to bear weight in a few weeks.
Tib/Fib fracture from a motorcycle accident 9 days ago. Rod went through knee with 4 screws to hold bone together. Using walker to get around. But was mobile 2nd day after surgery. A lot more mobility everyday. Thank you for these videos.
@@bennythejig3905 I’m 25. If I could hop on my motorcycle right now I would. It scares my family and fiancé to death knowing I feel that way. Do I think I’ll be as confident riding right off the bat, no I don’t. This leg injury is one heck of a journey. I woke up at 6:30am with my leg in pretty heavy pain. Mornings are the worst. All the medicine has worn off. But truthfully my accident was just that. An accident. It was nobody’s fault. I was on a back road on a street Ive never been on. On a street I’ll never go on again. I’m more scared of that road than my motorcycle.
@@katjajonker knee mobility was a big issue, I remember lying on my back and trying to bring my knee to my chest. I couldn’t without a lot of pain. It’s been 107 days since my accident. I can bring my knee to my chest now. My biggest issues at this time are if I sit with my leg bent, like in a car. It hurts standing up initially, right below my knee. But after a few steps I’m fine. I’ve noticed getting out of bed and standing up is getting easier. But after letting my leg rest for more then 10-15min and standing up is definitely still painful.
I broke my ankle last year in football in November, I have a bar and 8 screws, two months after the operation I started to exercise my leg alone in the home version, 3 months after the operation I started physical therapy, which I attended for 6 weeks and where I threw out both sticks out of use, after 4.5 months I started playing football in a reduced capacity of course, now after 10 months I play football, as if nothing happened, but in the morning when I get up the day after the game, I feel a little pain in my injured leg which it's also normal (because there are screws and screws that I removed 2 years after the operation), splitting, which stops after 2 to 3 hours. I wish you all a speedy recovery
2 weeks ago, I had a head-on collision with a semi-truck while riding my motorcycle. Got a Tib/Fib break and my kneecap was shattered. Now that I'm allowed to put weight on that leg, it's time to start the rehab. I live in an area that SUCKS for medical stuff. My first rehab appointment is another 2 weeks out, so I'm going to start my own rehab. I've been doing a LOT of stretching on that ankle to make sure it didn't freeze up and my knee will bend 90 degrees so far. As Zack mentioned, I've only been moving _up to_ the pain, but never into it.
Hate that I found this late. It's been 3 yrs since my accident I was so mentally traumatized I refused therapy. No one is even allowed to touch my leg. Im walking now however my mental traumas keep me from running. It doesn't hurt im just mentally scared to use the foot to it's full potential but I feel like this video will help me over come this year while I exercise the foot.
Thank you for the fantastic video Zack! I am recovering from a tib/fib orif surgery and at the 6 week mark. This video really helped me understand the recovery process. Thank you!
I was in a motorcycle accident on august 22nd, 2024. Broke my right tib/fib and fracture femur, got a metal plate, a ton of screws and some screws in my knee as well. It's been hell for me. On october 20th, i caught an infection around my knee. And let me tell you that pain was as bad as my accident. Were the infection was at it, ended up swelling up like a balloon, and it popped. Gushing out so much blood, it was crazy! Went to er and had to get another surgery done. Which makes it my 3rd surgery in 2 months. But now, after the infection was removed, im on iv antibiotics now at home for 6 weeks. Then oral antibiotics for the next 12 weeks. But let me tell you, my leg with the infection removed feels 100 times better, even better than before the infection. Im able to bend my knee and move my leg. My ankle feels great, just a lot of soreness, and im not able to bend me knee all the way, but it's like 80% bend. Still haven't been cleared for full weight bearing yet. But i feel ready they have me on toe touch right now on a walker. But i want to get some type of brace. I just dont know what to get unless I'm being inpatient, lol. I'm driving also with no problem, and my injury is on my right leg. But it's been going on 3 months now, and I'm doing great.
WOW, I can't imagine what you've been thru. Broke my femur 4 months ago & it's HARD. I live alone & have stairs. It's been a challenge. After reading your msg. and what you've been thru......you never know who you might help when you post a comment. Thank You.
@janehusted9570 of course, figured I can share my story. Give some people some motivation. Having this injury definitely put me in a depression stage in my life a lot. Especially when I'm the sole provider in my family and the injury it's self was trauma it's self. And especially that I was awake through the hole accident from seeing myself fly through the air and throwing my leg off my chest it's scary. But it's all about mental strength and strength alone to get threw any injury. And you're not alone. We all aren't alone. Just keep pushing through it, and it will get better, I promise you! A little update in my self I just started to walk with a cane 2 days ago, and it's going well. I bought this PT strap that goes around my foot on amazon, and that strap is working wonders. I would recommend getting one helps a lot.
I had a ski accident 3 months back fractured my tibia and fibula bone I’m almost recovered now Allhumdulilah that too without surgery , cast has been removed 15 days back now I on brace I’m also able to walk now without stick or walker Today doc allowed me to drive
40 days since I had surgery on my shattered tibia and fractured fibula and Ive started working on these in cast exercises. Can’t wait to get out of the cast and start on the rest. Thanks for the video.
Still in cast after 40 days? My surgeon had it removed in 12 days. Broke my tib fib both on 19th june, did surgery next day. I've been told to wear removable brace. But i keep it remove all the time cuz it feels caged.
@@yashshah3484 tib was only a few inches above my ankle, fib was about 9 inches below the knee, the cast is about 6 inches below my knee. From what my surgeon says where I broke my tibia was the worst possible place. But I went to get fitted for a PTB brace and the Nurse Practitioners at the place where I went freaked out about my range of motion and my big toe. I’m only able to get my foot about 1 inch from flat footed and even at the 1” shy it’s extremely painful. So they freaked out about it and said I should seek a second opinion immediately.
@@themikehoncho my Tibia fibula both broken from just below the knee. It's called intercondylar area. It's hardly painful for me when my foot is kept on pillow. But when i get down i make sure i keep foot in air as much as possible. Because when i keep it down, it gets really tired and becomes painful. Mine is today 35th day of surgery. Has your surgical wounds completely dried?
Month two here and I have started exercise yesterday. Comparing to these comments, I have healed pretty well. Still long way to go to be back to normal though
I am recovering from being hit by vehicle also. Badly broken left ankle (required surgery), broken left shoulder and broken right tibia (tibial plateau). Can now bear weight on right leg as tolerated but can’t put much pressure on shoulder yet so can’t use crutches or walker at this time. Doing seated PT daily. It’s been two months. Can’t begin to bear weight on left ankle for another month yet. It’s frustrating right now. I broke my right fib & tib in bad bicycle accident years ago (also required surgery) so i am familiar the process of beginning to bear weight. This video is encouraging though, for upcoming work I can do.
Thank you so much for the video. My favorite was the tip toe walk. I'm only 2 weeks into my recovery but already up and walking around much better than before surgery. Also one other thing I would like to add is keeping a balanced diet while going through recovery. My recovery time is set for 3 months but i was up and walking after 1 week and a half weeks after surgery... having a good diet will help you recover faster. Stay away from too much added sugars or greasy foods, this will only cause your recovery to become longer.
I'm going to come back to this in the future I'm only two weeks out of surgery and am going to work on the beginning...... Really looking forward to getting feeling back in my foot this comment section gives me hope
So it's now April 29th and I broke my leg Feb 28th no insurance and physical rehab I am now walking... Slowly but I'm walking........ This guy has awesome advice
Thank you Zack very helpful and what really resonated with me was “gratitude “. The mind helps us heal, it’s so hard for us active people not being able to walk while healing. I have felt such profound deep, appreciation for my body. And i know I will be happier and stronger than ever on the other side of this. Btw are you single?
Been about 15 weeks since I broke my tibia and fibia in a football accident. The injury was horrible and had a hip cast on me for the first 8 weeks. I just started walking without any support. Still tryna get back so I can recover quickly!
Broke my tibia and fibula two weeks ago. Luckily there's not really any pain atm, but i do have trouble lifting it from below the knee to the ankle on it's own. Hopefully i can start these exercises soon to help get back to work
Just recently broke my tibia and i cant move my big toe and i have limited ankle control due to the 2 surgeries i had to have the ankle stretch with towel has been help me tons
4 years ago I broke my leg both tibia and fibula until now I'm still afraid of being forced into a game like basketball I'll try these tips I hope I can play again thanks for the tips❤️
I am week 3 into the healing process of breaking both tib & fib ice skating. Had the ORIF surgery with rod and screws put in. Honestly, I was not prepared for the recovery process of this and thought a cast & 6 weeks would do it. Awesome vid, thank you!

I broke both tibula and fibulas by being ran over by a vehicle . I can walk now it’s been 8 months . It hurts walking as my bones are still healing and I have metal rods going down my legs . I will try some of these excersices . I usually clean around my home or wash the cars just trying to stay active .
Rich i broke tib an fib, rod inserted. Goin on 8 wks an yet to stand weight bearing on that leg/foot. HANG IN THERE! it sucks but remember it could be worse. Dont rush yourself but just be deternined to achieve "baby steps" of improvement, do the therapy excercises as tolerated aaand keep positive. We will get there! When was your injury?
I broke my tibia and fibula last year in May 2022. Dr decided to out plates inside. Unfortunately it gets infected and discharge starts to come out from there. At that time my Dr. Sisnot consider this condition seriously and continued with implants till further 10months. Finally due to this negligence my bone gets infected badly and started severe pain. At that time I decided to change Dr. And after consulting three different surgeons I finally went through illazarov surgery. It is also very painful procedure and till date I am recovering from it.
I also broke my tibia and fibula 3 months ago playing football been a long run but I couldn’t walk or even get out of bed without help I started walking and able to get out of bed myself about 6 weeks in and then about 1-2 weeks later so 8th week I was able to properly step and walk and weight bear been doing therapy now think it’s 13th week n I’m walking with no crutches no pain only had pain for the 1st 2 weeks after surgery but my leg is not fully healed yet but it doesn’t hurt anymore so I can put all my weight on it now more freely been able to go concerts and all I know I’m only 13 weeks but I even do small passes with a football in my house but only do a few so I don’t hurt it a lot just to keep my technique in
Took a 40 caliber defense round to the tibia and completely destroyed it. Good luck everyone. This is scary, feels almost like life won’t ever be the same. Don’t know what to appreciate until you can longer do it or have it

Day 22 Post op, broke both fibula and tibia with 3 fractures, been researching the recovery process from day one. I'm able to walk without support but using elbow crutch for safety. 7 months seems too long and scary. aiming for no limping in next 2-3 weeks fingers crossed.
Do what your body tells you and your doctors. Im 7 weeks post op, those exercises help a lot, im trying to get over my limp as im walking with 1 crutch , I although have full mobility in my knee and leg over all and no pain when walking
I met with an accident 1.5 yrs and one leg fracture only. Had Tobia nail surgery and I did not do physiotherapy properly. So Im unable to walk in stair cases yet and my muscles are loose (above knee) Will try those Thank you
I'm already able to jog / slow sprint just 10 weeks out of cast for broken tib/fib with a rod, and I'm 64, so you can be a little more optimistic with your timeline to full recovery.
Glad I ran into this video ❤ comments are helpful as well. Is it recommended to start after the 6wk of healing or right away when comfortable? I’m on wk 2 of healing from fibula fractures. Thanks
I work at a children's home in south Africa and if there was a cure for HIV, I thank I would literally cry my eyes out for a week straight!🩸 so many precious little lives. born with this horrible disease. Thank you for your research and please don't sell out to big pharma!🙏 I am begging you..
Broke my lower tibia and fibula due to turf monster playing soccer . Had two operations one an X fix and the second operation was to remove the X fix and insert three plates and about 17 screws . Took me about 3/4 months for walking with my crutches . 5/6 months to start walking with none . And about 7 8 months to have no limp nothing and excercise on the bike . Take it to now 2 years later i tried returning to soccer but my lateral movements are not there . Ive been in the gym squatting and doing calf raises but all that does not help my lateral movement feel great but not good enough to return back to the field
4 weeks post accident 2 1/2 weeks post surgery! trying to regain mobility in my knee and ankle and be able to walk unassisted. surgeon said i can weight bear as tolerated so im trying to get back to normal walking asap!!
It's 9 weeks since I broke my fibula. I had to have it pinned and plated, with a rod going across into my tibia. It's been a slow painful few weeks. These exercises look great now I'm starting to weight load. I'm still on crutches, is this normal progress?
It's HARD!!!! Broke my femur July 12. Ì live alone & have stairs. I am still in pain & sleeping at night is difficult. Just taking it one day at a time, trying to be patient, I am very active. I teach water aerobics & if you can exercise in a pool, it's the best. I never feel any pain in the pool !!!!!
Fractured prox fib and distal tib July 2023. Most of the screws broke that was holding the plate in. That gave me many issues. Had hardware removal end of Feb 28th. Still can't walk. Lots of new sensations, nerve firings. Feels like my tendons are burning with any weight on the leg. Significant muscle loss in gastrocs. Not fun and trying not to lose hope.
Broke my tibia and fibula on my wedding day 3 months ago. Had a nail inserted to fix it, it now looks like its a delayed union as im still no where near healed, still cant walk properly and the screws at the ankle are still very painful and irritate. Thank you for the exercises
Love you ZACK!! Thanks a million for this useful vid. Biggest hugs! 🥰❤ To avoid hand-pain, I weave a towel through my door handles when doing door-assisted squats. The towel is so much easier to grip! 💝 Zach, have you tried those squat-assisted machines like the DB Method or the Sunny Row-n-Ride? I'd be interested to know how you think they compare to the humble door-handle assisted squat! 😍 Good luck with your recovery everyone!!❤
hello!! Thank you so much for this, the tips with massages are really interesting, it helped me a lot! I still can't bear weight, so for now half of the video was really useful for me
Thanks for this exercise, am recovering from a Fibula fracture and I just started with this but some of the above seems to be challenging one because I feel pains whiles I try such. But I know it will be well as you said everything should be in smaller doze
These are great! I'm only 5 days out of sugery but I making sure to do alot of these already. They are painful but I notice alot of relief after it. I had a rod put into my tib and what I find amazing is they have told me I can fully weight bare right after the op! T It's quite painful to do so just now so I'm only doing maybe a Min or 2 a day with the aid of crutches. Again thanks for this video it's going to be a great help
yo me and you have to keep updating I literally got surgery 6 days ago and broke both fib and tib but it was such a straight break they put some screws in me but they also did something to my knee!.... I'm able to move my ankle around and my ankle isn't even the pain problem.. they made an incision on top of my knee above my knee cap and another under my knee on the left side. my knee hurts so bad and I can use my own weight to try to bend my leg up towards me but my knee can't come up far at all without pain.. i saw the surgery and they do some crap with your knee. they didn't do that to you? they too told me I can try to walk and put little weight on it asap. this break is literally about 4 inches above my ankle and my dang knee hurts like hell. feels like ive got a rock stopping my leg from coming up like something would pop out of my leg if I really went further. pain went down so much since the break though.
I have the exact same issue! Op was 6 days ago and i would appreciate it so much if you had any hits or tips to help! This video is going to help a lot. Thank you for commenting. It gives me confidence I’m not alone and this can be done!
@@melissasmyth5611 did they do what I said to your knee too? I'm going to see the orthopedic surgeon on the 21st so if I see him before you do ill let you know how I'm doing. My swelling has gone down a lot and my leg doesn't hurt that much anymore its just purely my knee I can only bend my knee literally 30%.
@@melissasmyth5611 were basically as the same stage and all i can say is ice is your best friend 10 Mins on 10 off. They gave me oxycodone but only take them if your in some real pain but the dang things don't work anyway. Don't really need it. I'm also at the point where I'm starting to leave my leg straight on the couch a lot more than putting it up on pillows. For some reason now my leg feels better not being elevated unless you go to bed. Everyone's different so keep updating! I will too.
Hi I hope your recovery is doing well🙂 I have also had a rod in my tibia and it's been 2 weeks since and I am meant to be full weight bearing. Is your knee really stiff still as my one only bends into 90° as I had the incision above the knee. Kindest regards

Feels like my knee is fucked for good :/
I just had exact same surgery... segmental break, tib fib and rod
You're lucky that you're almost recovered after a year and a bit. It's been the same amount of time for me and I'm still very limited in my motion. U got a better case of it than u realize
I had just had the exact same injury happen a month back
Just happened to me
7 months since i broke my tibia/femur after reading the comments I didn’t know so many people had to go through this. I salute everyone!!! Trying my best to be able to run again, but I’m still trying get more range I’m my ankle as well
How many days did you take to walk without walker / crutches?

Ankle stretching exercises karo bro
Wow you took 6 weeks to walk? I took about 10!
Are u walking properly laura may god bless u darling

hello i just had knee bone surgery a week ago,but i can't still raise my left leg by my self.😢my thigh still no power to lift up my leg.pleaseee help, first time had surgery in my life😢😢
Just got the surgery a week ago after breaking my left tibia getting bumped by a car while on a bike.
It was amazing to me that the next day after surgery the hospital PT came in to teach me how to use crutches and I could actually move around.
Thanks for the mobility exercise variations! Not yet at a point where the leg is load bearing, but will get there
Speedy recovery to everyone!
I try to be productive but too many days just sleeping... trying not to watch too many youtube shorts lol.

broke my tibula and fibia 5 months ago skating , surgery went well and everything thankfully, but now im having these knee pains and ankle pains after trying to consistently skate again, gonna try these exercises to see if they get better, really appreciate the thought and effort that went into this u helping a lot of people dude. wish everybody in here the best in their recoveries🏃🏾♂️🏃🏾♂️🏃🏾♂️🦿🤞🏽🪄🐐
i broke my talas bone in my ankle aswell as my tibia 3 weeks ago. i am having the same operation tomorrow.
How long would the cast stay according to the doctor??
Thanks for tips
@@marccasinsinan8023 my doctor said 12 weeks
@marccasinsinan8023 I never had a cast, I was kept in the hospital with mine, I was in for 2 weeks.
Thank you for posting your experience & amazing excercises. I wish everyone including me whoever has broken their legs a speedy recovery.

I broke my tibia three months ago and opted for non surgical management as I was told I was too small for a tibial nail! Today was my first day out of a cast into a moon boot, but there’s still a long way to go until I regain my muscle back. 💪
Am relieved to see someone else using non surgical method ..we will be ok
Healing from the same injury now. Thanks for posting this!! ❤
What do you do to get a better movement of the knee?? My knee feels too tight, I can bend it but only a little bit!! Any recommendations?!

Wishing you a speedy recovery Mark!

All the medicine has worn off. But truthfully my accident was just that. An accident. It was nobody’s fault. I was on a back road on a street Ive never been on. On a street I’ll never go on again. I’m more scared of that road than my motorcycle.
How is your knee mobility? I feel like after the surgery (2 weeks ago for me) bending my knee past 90 degrees hurts the joint
I never fractured my tibula or fibula but I have bad ankles and these exercises really help with recovery for after a practice/game
It def messes with your mind!

Try some white wine, it helped for me to get the courage.
I had a ski accident 3 months back fractured my tibia and fibula bone I’m almost recovered now Allhumdulilah that too without surgery , cast has been removed 15 days back now I on brace I’m also able to walk now without stick or walker

@@yashshah3484 yeah I’ve made an appointment for a second opinion at this point.
@@themikehoncho what part of Tib Fib have you broken? How long is your cast? From thigh to ankle?
Broke mine end of August and I just found this now! Thank you🥺🙏
This was needed! Thank you so much fractured my tibia back in April
Don't stress the bone is going through some healing, of you put some weight it may bend again.
60 days since the accident and 5 days after the surgery of distal tibia fructure ,
Thank you for the video❤️
When did you exactly put on full weight after surgery?
Been about 15 weeks since I broke my tibia and fibia in a football accident. The injury was horrible and had a hip cast on me for the first 8 weeks. I just started walking without any support. Still tryna get back so I can recover quickly!
Do you have any pain when you walking.
I go out walking for a bit to get expercise but definitely need these weight bearing exercises.
Did you ever have knee stiffness? How long did it last for?
Broke my tibia and fibula two weeks ago. Luckily there's not really any pain atm, but i do have trouble lifting it from below the knee to the ankle on it's own. Hopefully i can start these exercises soon to help get back to work
Just recently broke my tibia and i cant move my big toe and i have limited ankle control due to the 2 surgeries i had to have the ankle stretch with towel has been help me tons
4 years ago I broke my leg both tibia and fibula
until now I'm still afraid of being forced into a game like basketball I'll try these tips I hope I can play again thanks for the tips❤️
Are you walking normal now?
😢
I am week 3 into the healing process of breaking both tib & fib ice skating. Had the ORIF surgery with rod and screws put in. Honestly, I was not prepared for the recovery process of this and thought a cast & 6 weeks would do it. Awesome vid, thank you!
I broke mine in June Pilon fracture of both. I’m in a wheelchair at least until mid September
I had the same surgery and it is hell but slowly but surely
@@Jbedit_s fighting my depression is the biggest issue. I'm not able to get around in my house or outside so I'm stuck and my daddy died in April and I want him
Healing now from tib fib after 5 weeks last surgery going to physical therapy. Just think positive it’s only temporary.
@@romero2025 how are you feeling now bro
I broke both tibula and fibulas by being ran over by a vehicle . I can walk now it’s been 8 months . It hurts walking as my bones are still healing and I have metal rods going down my legs . I will try some of these excersices . I usually clean around my home or wash the cars just trying to stay active .
How long til you took first steps?
Within 5 months I took my steps . I pushed myself and rested until I felt good enough to go again .
Holy shit I'm in for a long recovery 😭
Damn brother hopefully everything gets better soon
I also broke my tibia and fibula 3 months ago playing football been a long run but I couldn’t walk or even get out of bed without help I started walking and able to get out of bed myself about 6 weeks in and then about 1-2 weeks later so 8th week I was able to properly step and walk and weight bear been doing therapy now think it’s 13th week n I’m walking with no crutches no pain only had pain for the 1st 2 weeks after surgery but my leg is not fully healed yet but it doesn’t hurt anymore so I can put all my weight on it now more freely been able to go concerts and all I know I’m only 13 weeks but I even do small passes with a football in my house but only do a few so I don’t hurt it a lot just to keep my technique in
Broke my ankle, knee and tibia (lengthwise) two weeks ago. I've got an ex-fix at the moment and am waiting for second surgery in a few days.
Just snapped em both, trying to get back to the field as quick as possible
Took a 40 caliber defense round to the tibia and completely destroyed it. Good luck everyone. This is scary, feels almost like life won’t ever be the same.
Don’t know what to appreciate until you can longer do it or have it
Fractured my tibia 2 weeks ago in a car accident. The last 2 weeks have been hell. But I feel a full healing coming on.
Me too😢
27/01/2024 Broken Knee & it was turn right i was socked to see it. Surgery was last Sunday 28/01/2024. I hope my leg is back to the normal movement, your video helpful thank you ❤❤
mine 31/01/24 same problem
So Im unable to walk in stair cases yet and my muscles are loose (above knee)
Will try those
Thank you
I also have a tibia and fibulia fracture thank you for these exercises I will definitely use them after my dr gives me the 👍🏼 to do so
I'm already able to jog / slow sprint just 10 weeks out of cast for broken tib/fib with a rod, and I'm 64, so you can be a little more optimistic with your timeline to full recovery.
#GOALS Amazing recovery story!! my recovery goal is to be able to run again
glad I found this. I broke my ankles..Fibula..out of boots..Its been 6 weeks
Glad I ran into this video ❤ comments are helpful as well. Is it recommended to start after the 6wk of healing or right away when comfortable? I’m on wk 2 of healing from fibula fractures. Thanks
Great video, thanks man. Coming back from a fibula fracture
me too, hope you’re healing healthy
How many time you take to recover from this injury
I work at a children's home in south Africa and if there was a cure for HIV, I thank I would literally cry my eyes out for a week straight!🩸 so many precious little lives. born with this horrible disease. Thank you for your research and please don't sell out to big pharma!🙏 I am begging you..
Suggest some medicine for tibia fibula fecturad
Did everyone have surgery? I fractured my fib 2 weeks ago and now I’m trying to figure if surgery is best or not.
Broken fibula and tibia from a fall! I’m my 6wk mark . Just graduated to the boot. I’m ready to walk
Man thanks for putting this together!!!
3rd weeks after surgery (fibular+ ankle). Took the stitches off today.
How r u bro now how ur ankle plz replay
Broke my tibia and fibula on my wedding day 3 months ago. Had a nail inserted to fix it, it now looks like its a delayed union as im still no where near healed, still cant walk properly and the screws at the ankle are still very painful and irritate. Thank you for the exercises
I was wondering, how many sets should you of these exercises and how many times should you do each day
Love you ZACK!! Thanks a million for this useful vid. Biggest hugs! 🥰❤
To avoid hand-pain, I weave a towel through my door handles when doing door-assisted squats. The towel is so much easier to grip! 💝
Zach, have you tried those squat-assisted machines like the DB Method or the Sunny Row-n-Ride? I'd be interested to know how you think they compare to the humble door-handle assisted squat! 😍
Good luck with your recovery everyone!!❤
I broke my tibula in a rugby accident and this video really helped, thanks bro
When do you do such exercises after tibial nail surgery? Am on week 10 and just saw them. Let me start doing some today
broke my T/f 6 MONTHS ago i havent been able to walk nicely i hope this will really help me
Going to start these ...having tibia fracture in leg it's been 90 days now
No start after 6month
7 weeks broken tib and fib and boy never felt pain like that just got my boot off starting to walking thought it would be easy and absolutely not
These are great! I'm only 5 days out of sugery but I making sure to do alot of these already. They are painful but I notice alot of relief after it. I had a rod put into my tib and what I find amazing is they have told me I can fully weight bare right after the op! T
It's quite painful to do so just now so I'm only doing maybe a Min or 2 a day with the aid of crutches.
