Nice rig. The screens are really good if you are sleeping in it. I think a solid plate of glass looks clean and tidy but having windoors and screens (for possible sleeping in bed in future) is a win -win. As far as lighting: for real cheap you can get plastic LED lights of different sizes, shapes and brightness. You can put a strip of velcro on them and stick them inside your carpeted bed anywhere you want. Further, you can move them around inside. Have one near the door, have one near the bed for when you eventually camp in it :).
The batteries last a long time and who wants to look at wires?
agree about the screens...very useful.
I don’t think I ever seen a topper with perfect color match
You can barely tell between the two shades of quicksand. Thanks for uploading
My husband and I are about to order a topper for our 2016 F250 Super Duty Quad cab with 8' bed. We keep going back & forth between the Leer options and the A.R.E. My dad who is in his 80's and has had many different toppers on his trucks over the years, states that the #1 thing he would change on his current A.R.E is instead of the one T - handle in the middle he would go with 2; one on each side. He says it's much more secure when you lock it to protect what you have in there. Someone popped his single lock open without too much trouble and stole things from him. Someone just told me last week that they had a Leer for about 5 years and the dust and water seeped in. He bought a new truck and topper a year ago and loves his A.R.E. No water leaks and very little dust seeps inside. He said the rubber frame seal is better on the A.R.E. We were really looking at getting the Leer, but now we aren't sure.
The rubber frame seal you mentioned is around the window frames correct? Or do you mean between the cap itself, and the truck bed? Thanks
One additional thing I forgot to mention in the video is how difficult it is to see out the back when its dirty. In NY it is dirty a lot lol so, I knew it would obviously make it tougher to see but its pretty bad at times. I find myself cleaning it off A LOT.
So would you go with a removable window? or just one that will slide and drops down ?
Thanks for the update !
@@alexgonzo19 I think the drop or removable would both work. Just the ability to clean it would be nice
I just ordered a uni-cover, $2300 for my white sport 2020 tacoma,
insulated, carpet lined,
no windoors, same double Latch door,
Slide front window/ drop down...
Slider side windows with screens...
6 to 8 weeks away... can hardly wait!!
Great video. Very helpful! Color is just a tad darker than the body.
The cap should be slightly larger so it doesn't rub against the body paint of the truck. It also helps with water run off and freezing between the cap and the bed. Your taco looks good and functional. As far as the rear sight issue, either get used to using your mirrors or buy a rear camera system. They are relatively cheap and can mount to your review mirror
Right on, thanks the feedback! and thanks for watching!
I've had 4 trucks with caps. I had ARE and LEER om all my other ones. This time around I went with a company called Ranch which is a relative of Leer I believe. I think it's a great cap for less $ than the top name brands. The last truck I had, had the center latch. I didn't like it. It had a different spring system so as soon as you turned the latch it would fly open into your face. You had to be very careful! On all the caps I've owned the locks go bad after a year because of all the road salt. I'm sure if I lubricated it regularly it might last a little longer but I've just given up on them. Also on the ranch cap the gas springs have been going strong for 4 years. On all my other caps they would need to be replaced for various reasons every year or two. My cap now has the two latches like yours and I just leave them unlatched all the time so I just lift to open. I don't latch or lock them ever. I do like the windoors you've got. I've never had those. My current truck is too tall and they would be pointless but for yours i think it's a great option! Nice video!
Great points! Thanks man!
I just placed a order for this same cap same color and same truck, i hope it fits good. i have seen some videos were they didn't fit good. i went with the carpet, sliding glass windows on the side and front.(price out the door was $2789.00) i also thought it would be hard to see out the back, but i tow a camper with my Tacoma so cant see out the back most of the time anyways. good video man!!
Awesome!!! You won’t be disappointed!!
We just bought a camper too. Pick it up on April 19th and I can’t wait!!
The two separate handles on back will be more reliable in the long run I would think.
I think so, just hard to open with your hands full lol
I didnt notice the difference in color till you mentiond it.
Great review. Going to get one for my tundra. Don’t have a link to the lights? Any chance you’re gonna do a review on the switch pro?
Great review thanks for advice. Now I have to wait two months. I am sure I will enjoy
You won’t regret it that’s for sure!! Fingers crossed for you to get it quick!
Hey man thanks for the video. There wasnt any fitting/clearance issues of the cap with your roof rack with the mounted case right?
Nope, none!
I wish leer can make rear door heater lines.
Thought the leer warranty would be invalid if you have your own rack?
How do you customize the windows? Do you have to go into a shop and do it? I can’t find it online
Good videos helps out alot. Just downsized to a Tacoma and the other American trucks had a Snup Top in which quality has hit rock bottom. So this video helps.. being from up state and snow, rain and winter weather how do the Win windows hold up as far as leaking? They look like a great option. Thanks for sharing.
Are the Win Windows holding up ok? Any leaking either from the sliding section or the frame gaskets?
@@scottgorman7166 No leaking at all. I no longer own the truck but while I had it, NO water whatsoever!
So are you able to install a prinsu rack on the Thule tracks that come with the factory leer caps?
I ended up removing the factory racks and did full prinsu so it matched and was the same height as the cab.
My leer doesn’t have the pop up windows I have the sliding windows, think I can buy just the pop up windows and install them?
I’m thinking it can be done. May need a retailer to do it to be sure it right
While it doesn't look bad at all, I'm just not a personal fan caps. I feel like you should just buy a 4runner instead but that's me. Like I said they don't look bad but you just totally lose the reason to have a pickup when you put a cap on the bed(even getting what you say about the truck being more space). I see what they are saying about the color being a little off but when you got back a little from the truck it looked liked it matched perfect. Certainly not enough to worry about. The rack does look great on it.
I will probably go back to a 4Runner at some point. I can fit WAY more in my tacoma with cap than I ever could of in my previous 4Runner. Now that we have a camper I don’t have the need for as much inside storage but I use the truck bed frequently.
I think the canopy is a better option than putting a bed rack system because then you will need a good tonneau cover like a diamondback to keep things dry and secure but harder to get stuff out.
I have the Leer 100XQ want to put a set of tracks and rack with eventually a RTT, how much weight can it hold. I've read that when a rtt is unfolded that the ladder takes some of the weight off.
I don't know the exact weight limit, some say it can hold it no problem and others would say the opposite. I know they do make some pretty light weight rtt's. What will you be running.?
@@Overlandtravel_adventures thanks for reply, either a CVT, smittybilt, or free spirit.
I have the same model on a Colorado & It hangs over a little bit Also not an exact color match
Thank you for the content. Any issues on your end with the factory tracks for the top rack curling up? Also, you used the Prinsu factory mounting feet?
Absolutely, thanks for watching! No issues as of yet, and yes I used the Prinsu feet.
Does it make your truck sag in the rear?
I didn't measure, but to the eye there was no sag that I could tell.
Your truck looks great!
Thank you sir!!
Just bought a snugtop rebel for my 21 off road. I hope it’s a good one.
I have heard good things! Thanks for watching!
Isn't this the 100r? It has two back window lock handles. Not one in the middle. Either way I love it.
I think you have the option to customize between the two
Color is a little off, maybe more noticeable in that truck/cap color.
Do you have any info on the specific prinzu rack you got that fit on the factory leer tracks?
I ordered from the guys at exploreoverland.com. If you go to the site you will see the topper feet. It’s just the short bed rack and then 4 mounting feet!

@@Zoet50 thanks for watching!!
Great vid , I think it looks great .
Thank you!! Appreciate that
@@Overlandtravel_adventures
I just purchased a SnugTop Rebel canopy two days ago , I feel a canopy just makes a truck that more versatile . Cheers
Have you had any problems with water leaking in anywhere ?
No problems at all! I no longer own the truck but for the time I had it there was zero water issues.
2 handle set up is way better for off road use.
What was the price on this one?
How much was the topper?
Sorry for the late response, it was about 3k
@@Overlandtravel_adventures no problem at all. Thanks for responding anyway 👍👍
Is the 100xl the same?
4:54 😮😲
Great tacoma
Thank you!
💪🙏😁🇵🇷👍
The cheap always comes out expensive.
I easily could tell it was an off color
Agreed, definitely looks better in person!
Color is off.. but who cares it’s close enough.
Just buy a 4 Runner.
And that’s what I have done ✅
