When you used the key fob to unlock the tailgate it seems it unlocked your camper top rear door also. did you purchase the Leer keyless entry handle ($289)?

I just received my new Tacoma sport. And today I ordered Decked for it, and now I am looking at caps/ toppers . I’m trying to decide on a cab height or just a bit taller. If you have some time could you take a measurement from the the deck to the top of the cap? If you mentioned it in the video I missed it. Thanks.
Unfortunately I don’t have my cap any more. If you check my latest videos I am now running a Super Pacific. However I did that measurement which is similar. It’s 29inches to the top of the SP. however my leer was even with my cab roof. So just do that measurement and you should be good.
The Smartcap is nice. I think it has a better look than a traditional shell but the price is steep. The functionality and practicality of the Smartcap might be better than the Leer but is the extra $ worth it? I dunno. Also I dont think the look is everyone’s taste. It stands out more so than the Leer. My shell just blended in with the truck. The Smartcap stands out.
You probably can’t completely but I would look to add rubber seals all the way around the cover and also check the cubby to make sure there are no holes for dirt to get through.
did you build those bed stiffeners yourself? I notice the horizintal leg..doesnt have a vertical edge..for strength. I like yours..pleez let me know ..thanx!
These are made by Total Chaos. You can check them out here: www.polyperformance.com/total-chaos-bed-stiffener-bolt-on-2016-tacoma-pr?TCS-48676&gclid=Cj0KCQjwudb3BRC9ARIsAEa-vUuwNDgRDzfWZmqUvaCE_2y8FokKKijhm6I1YZYgLyNn5Am3jCa-8mcaAlRdEALw_wcB
Hmmm, I noticed the writing that comes up on the video and says XR 100- Holds roughly 15-225lbs static weight. By any chance did you get that mixed up with dynamic weight? One man and a tent plus a rack is definitely more than 225lbs???
Looking at a 2018 OR with 14k miles, has same shell. Asking price 28.9 concerned about shifting issues and fuel pump recall though. Does the shell or bed leak at all? Is there a window on the shell to line up with the rear sliding window on the truck? New subscriber, great channel Thanks
Good questions... So there is a sliding glass window against the truck rear window. I typically just leave that window open and toggle my truck window from the inside any time I want some air or to talk to my dogs. as for leaks, no leaks from the windows BUT if the topper wasnt installed properly with sealant then you may see some leaks at the corners where the bottom of the topper meets the bed of the track against the cab. The good news is if you have that issue you can just shoot some silicon in there and close off any holes and you should be good. Its also worth noting that the only time you should see leaks from there is when you are washing your truck. not during rains or anything because of the angle of the where the holes are. Hope that makes sense. Id buy it and not worry. you can always make adjustments if needed or sell it all together if you arent happy with it. Thanks for subscribing and watching!
Just wondering how long that one center lock will stay closed because I have seen many get worn out and may pop open and some roads. I prefer the ARE middle lock because it a lot more sturdy
Hard to say... I have used mine for 3 years with zero issues. I think it has more to do with abuse and ultimately how you take care of your shell. But to your point, things can fail and wear out. ARE shells included in that. So food for thought. Buy what works for you!
I just went to a custom truck store and ordered it. It did take about a month to get though. I think they make them from scratch when you order versus having stock. However that was all pre Covid. Good luck!
If you don't mind me asking, what'd you pay for it? Maybe you mentioned in the video but I couldn't find it. I just got quoted by a local shop for $3668 but with the top tier of add-ons for the 100XR since my intentions are to use as a camper.
@@PointShiftDrive I slept in the back of my truck for years. I worked long hours as a pipe fitter on the islands and too tired to make the long commute home. I essentially went camping, fishing and had tailgate parties while relaxing instead of getting high blood pressure in traffic for hours. I kinda miss that part of my life.
@@JERRYR708 Thats fantastic! I completely understand that feeling and freedom you experienced. I hate traffic more than just about anything... to have a relaxing way around it is key! thanks for sharing
Its perfect for dogs! just make sure you get sliding windows so that there is enough air circulation for them to stay cool on hot days or after intense play. Then you should be good to go!
Yes. the shell is basically held down with clamps. However there should be sealant in between the bed and the shell if its done properly. its easily added or removed if need be.
I think that depends on what you use your truck for. the Leer is much more usable for everyday stuff... for example, you can really use the roof racks for bikes, luggage, tents, lumber. the SP has a less usable rack system, just not as strong IMO. however, if you are using your truck for camping/overlanding/or bugout, nothing beats having a bed with you no matter where you are.
@@PointShiftDrive probably true, but none of their resellers would reply to me when I requested a quote lol. Yet somehow a RUclips commenter was able to do their job...

@@PointShiftDrive Hay thanks ! That helps. I want to be able to sit up and get in and out without feeling like coffin. I may go with the leer 180cc. 😀
@@Annie-zf7xi just remember that decked detracts 12 inches of height
@@PointShiftDrive Ya I know, it so hard to shop this out on the internet and try to think of everything. Thanks
@@Annie-zf7xi totally get it. Hope
This helps. 👍🏼
I dig the rock sliders, may I ask which brand?
They are CBI
What you think about rsi smart Cap
The Smartcap is nice. I think it has a better look than a traditional shell but the price is steep. The functionality and practicality of the Smartcap might be better than the Leer but is the extra $ worth it? I dunno.
Also I dont think the look is everyone’s taste. It stands out more so than the Leer. My shell just blended in with the truck. The Smartcap stands out.
I have a Toyota tonneau cover and I on gravel roads my bed fills up with dust. How do I prevent this?
You probably can’t completely but I would look to add rubber seals all the way around the cover and also check the cubby to make sure there are no holes for dirt to get through.
How does the pop and lock system lock the cap door??
Separate module.
Good video
thanks for watching
did you build those bed stiffeners yourself?
I notice the horizintal leg..doesnt have a vertical edge..for strength.
I like yours..pleez let me know ..thanx!
These are made by Total Chaos. You can check them out here: www.polyperformance.com/total-chaos-bed-stiffener-bolt-on-2016-tacoma-pr?TCS-48676&gclid=Cj0KCQjwudb3BRC9ARIsAEa-vUuwNDgRDzfWZmqUvaCE_2y8FokKKijhm6I1YZYgLyNn5Am3jCa-8mcaAlRdEALw_wcB
Can you open the rear windows from inside the truck bed?
Yes. That’s actually how they are designed to work.
Hmmm, I noticed the writing that comes up on the video and says XR 100- Holds roughly 15-225lbs static weight. By any chance did you get that mixed up with dynamic weight? One man and a tent plus a rack is definitely more than 225lbs???
I believe 400lb is max static load.
@@PointShiftDrive Thanks for the in depth reply, enjoy your rig!
Currently in the process of purchasing the new “Lunar Rock” Trd pro, how difficult was it to get you camper shell in that exclusive “Barcelona Red”?
I just went to a custom truck store and ordered it. It did take about a month to get though. I think they make them from scratch when you order versus having stock. However that was all pre Covid. Good luck!
@@PointShiftDrive appreciate the feedback! Thank you
If you don't mind me asking, what'd you pay for it? Maybe you mentioned in the video but I couldn't find it. I just got quoted by a local shop for $3668 but with the top tier of add-ons for the 100XR since my intentions are to use as a camper.
I paid $2300 like 5 years ago. Inflation?
What model shell is this is this the R or the XR which one is it if you don’t mind me asking.
I explain the model in the video
How do you like the back cab for the kid seats?
It’s doable. Not that roomy but doable
Would a dog kennel fit between the Decked and top of the camper shell?
Depends on the size kennel but I’d say probably not.
Keep a suction cup in your pocket.
I ended up sticking a GoPro mount on the corner of the window. Works great!
I'm getting a SnugTop shell for my Tacoma long-bed. I'll be sleeping in it on road-trips. No need for tents or hotels!
Thats the best! I love having a hotel room built into my rig. No reliance on anyone!
How much did it cost you buying the cover alone? What add ons included?
Iverson Patricio it was about $2200 with everything installed.
Forgot to mention that the price included the slide style windows and roof rack rails. Also carpeting and LED on the inside.
How much are they?
I bought mine for $2300
Is your truck a short bed or long bed because I’ve been trying to find one for my short bed
Mine is a short bed.
My dad has a 2019 Tacoma and he is thinking of getting a bed shell. He is wanting to get one for our dogs. Is it good for dogs to ride in?
Its perfect for dogs! just make sure you get sliding windows so that there is enough air circulation for them to stay cool on hot days or after intense play. Then you should be good to go!
Point.Shift.Drive thanks for the info
@@benjaminblount2691 no prob!
Also are you able to take off the bed shell
Yes. the shell is basically held down with clamps. However there should be sealant in between the bed and the shell if its done properly. its easily added or removed if need be.
Point.Shift.Drive thanks for the info post more vids about it pls
Super pacific vs this?
I think that depends on what you use your truck for. the Leer is much more usable for everyday stuff... for example, you can really use the roof racks for bikes, luggage, tents, lumber. the SP has a less usable rack system, just not as strong IMO. however, if you are using your truck for camping/overlanding/or bugout, nothing beats having a bed with you no matter where you are.
Damn that's a good looking truck! Why did you ruin it with that silly ass snorkel?
R. S. I don’t love the look of the snorkel but I like the functionality.
How much did this xr100 cost u?
New they run about $2200
How much did that shell run you?
These run about $2200 installed.
@@PointShiftDrive thx fam, appreciate the helpful reply. It's super annoying that Leer doesn't put general prices on their site.
@@dangerdanadv1445 I agree. I think it’s because they allow their resellers to price it as they want.
@@PointShiftDrive probably true, but none of their resellers would reply to me when I requested a quote lol. Yet somehow a RUclips commenter was able to do their job...

What year taco is this?
It’s a 2017 TRD Pro
I have a 17 off road would this fit 5 ft bed?
I heard it’s hard to find a shell for these because they leak?
@@lennylee6528 shells are custom designed for your truck. They should fit pretty perfect. If you want them to not leak you just need to make sure they use a good rubber seal and Silicone when installing. Mine never leaked unless I pressure washed it shooting water up ward into the seal. Rains never caused it to leak though.
What happened to talking about a shell you lost me for a wile
Glue a knob on
to what?
