I could listen to Gilbert talk like old Groucho for 8 hours straight...I would learn so much about the old days
dude you read my mind....i could watch this impression on a loop on a desert island forever !!!...lol
@@waynedoyle5584 lmao!!
Dude, you and me both. I love this shit
Yes, wish he made an album as old Groucho
Well I'm happy to hear that because in the old days I would have something to say and people would gather around me to hear the verberations that eminated from the back of my throat to the front part of a rather large cavity. In my age we would call that a mouth. Then the verbarations would travel through the air and INSIDE a certain membrane inside the other person causing it to shake wildly. Back when I was young we called that an ear. Then the verbarations from my mouth and in their ear produce a familiar concept in their mind and they have heard what I said. In my day we called that listening.
“A window was something you could look out of” - I fucking lost it.
omg LMAO!! I laughed way too hard at this
Unless you were what in my day we called a Peeping Tom. In my day, a Peeping Tom would look into a window.
And if you saw another kid looking out of his window, you'd know his parents were making love too
There's nothing wrong with a comedian laughing at his own jokes. Gilbert will be sorely missed.
I think it was Don Rickles who said “I know I’m funny because I make me laugh.”
Gilbert's aging Groucho is my favorite imporession of all time.
There is a certain poetic brilliance to "back then, sometimes people had something to say."
Now when you have nothing to say and a lot of it you post it on some form of social media - like with RUclips, here.
Or that "back then, men and women were physically different"
@@tenhirankei like you!
@@nastybastardatlive Exactly!
in my day, Gilbert would be on the catskill circuit. See, he is what we used to call a comedian. A comedian was a person who would travel parts of the country and tell these stories that would make people laugh or smile. We called these stories, "jokes". Then these people who told the jokes would receive some form of payment. payment in actual money or a hot meal. The people who were laughing at these jokes were called "an Audience" in my day.
Oh man, do you do this bit on a lot of normal videos? That would be so funny.
Is this really Gilbert Gottfried doing a written impression of Old Groucho Marx? RIP
We still have those. Need a list?
it was like a westin
RIP Gilbert. This, and his impressions of the different Beatles on Penn Jilette’s show were the best
Gilbert on something "Live" is one DAMN RISKY move. I love him so damn much.
Chris Stone It's okay to admit that you aren't actually smart enough to understand him. And no it's not for something as simple as his voice.
I'm guessing Larry the Cable Guy is more your speed.
He's a true intellectual. World renowned for his comedic poise. A true mark of a great entertainer is laughing at themself. Enjoy him. Don't bother with some hack like Groucho Marx. He'd be far beneath you.
Chris Stone How pathetic and empty must one's life be to find some entirely bland comment and get so angry and upset about it to the point where you have to whine about to someone who wouldn't care if you died tomorrow? (I can't imagine many people would care if you died, the way you talk to people you don't know tells me just how empty your life actually is.)

I think you just said that to yourself. Just go enjoy your Gottfried, dipshit. The greatest comedian in the world for all the brightest of the brightest. lol
I'm astounded they allowed him on at all given it's huffington fuƈking post. There's like six or seven layers you even _get_ to journalistic antisemitism.
I had seen Groucho Marx do this BEFORE I ever heard Gilbert do an impression of it. I remember thinking, what the hell is he (Groucho) talking about? Then when I saw Gilbert do it I lost it. I saw Gilbert perform in Tampa last year and he killed it. Love him!
Gilbert Gottfried is one of my favorite comedians ever, hands down.
My introduction to Groucho was 3 weeks ago, and I’ve only seen the Cavett interviews...
This is everything I’ve ever wanted 🤣
The only line missing is "Chico needed the money" 😆
The best one is when he says
.. back in my day, we used to sleep. And when you felt your body had rested, you would get up. Lolol
Do you have link for this moment? Lmao
@@014adonis I would have to go digging a little bit to find it but it's definitely on the stern show. Lol 😃 great
You should hear Gilbert’s Jerry Seinfeld impression, it’s uncanny and spot-on.
Gilbert was doing a Seinfeld impression before Seinfeld was famous.
Not just Seinfeld, but Seinfeld doing Shakespeare. "To be or not to beee. I don't know whether to beeee or nottt. Some people be. Who areeeeee these people??"
@@bryanoglesby1714 Check out the RUclips clip of Gottfried doing an impression of Seinfeld and David Brenner having a conversation 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What makes an impression truly great is imagining the person figuring out the quirk. EVERYONE hears Arnold and does Arnold...but who the heck watches Old man Groucho and picks up on his dottering? Pure genius.
None of these comments talk about how the host clearly doesn’t get it. I’m cracking up that he keeps letting Gilbert go on and on, thinking there’s going to be a punch-line. He’s like “get to the point” while Gilbert just cracks up at himself
Watch the Cavett interviews especially the last few. He isn't mocking the man, he's lovingly poking fun.
Love it so much when Gilbert kind of laughs during the old Groucho impression 🤣
omg i love how Gilbert started cracking up n couldnt stop laughing while trying to do his.impression lol 😂
This is very accurate about Groucho 😂😂😂😂
Ironically there wouldn't be a Howard Stern or Gilbert Godfried without Groucho!
This is the funniest thing I’ve seen in my life 😂 I am typing this comment with tears in my eyes
Edit: 5 minutes later and I’ve finally stopped laughing hysterically. My chest hurts, I’m crying, sweating, and snot is coming out my nose, struggling to breathe. I had to stop the video short because it really became too painful to continue. I will probably never forget this day because this is truly the hardest I’ve laughed in my life by a mile. I don’t even know why it’s so funny but it is.
u poor thing lmaoooo😂😂
To this day, Gilbert Gottfried remains the only comedian who made me laugh so hard I cried.
I always thought Gilbert Gottfried does the best Gilbert Gottfried, especially the laugh.
When Gilbert Gottfried laughs at his own impression, it just gets funnier. XD
omg yesss!!
i litteraly shitted my pants
To think.. we collectively came incredibly close to hearing Old Groucho tell The Aristocrats.. "Back in MY dayyy.. auditioning was like a western"
Rest in peace Gilbert you were truly one of a kind.
. first norm then Bob now Gilbert. Damn cruel world
Somebody needs to stop this serial comic killer. Amy Schumer is on the top of the suspects list
He did this bit several times on Stern and it was THE funniest part of the show...brilliant impersonation.
As far as I am concerned Gilbert Gottfried is a national treasure!
was 😢
this is so brilliant and funny...i have watched those episodes of the dick cavett show with groucho as an old geezer....tis impression is beyond brilliant and hysterical...in fact i would love a sitcom where there is a grandpa and gilbert plays it just like this,.,,
If Gilbert did nothing else but old Groucho that would have been enough. Just the funniest thing I've ever heard.
2:16 The blonde woman with the ponytail in the background thinking "STFU I HAVE WORK TO DO!!!" 😆😆😆
3:37 Phone... I've watched this a dozen times and it still makes me bust a gut.
This is comic gold.
One of the funniest things I have ever seen. I am crying laughing.
As much as I worship Groucho, this is funny shit.
Now I know what jerry seinfeld will sound like as someone in a memory care unit.
I'm going to miss Gilbert for a long time to come....
Simply the best, hysterically funny... Adding years on people's lives thru laughter
This is great! You get the bit! Good setup-man.
the funny thing is Groucho was right
I had to pause several times just to keep my shit composed.
Lmaoooo still so funny. Love Gilbert and his laugh is contagious. Wish I could hang out with this guy for like minimum an hour. I think it would brighten the rest of my life.
I still miss Gilbert everyday, what an accent by this late great comedian. This fool was amazing.
men / women being physically different is considered a controversial statement in my day
Found the conservative
You don't think it's controversial?
The fact that its controversial now is ridiculous. There are only two genders
Lol this is so spot on and I think Groucho would love it but would have something even funnier to say to Gilbert
He’d probably tell him about how things were back in the day.
Or Gilbert himself being a comedian...
A Comedian is a person...Phf.fff.ff. X'3 i cant even..👐
This is probably Gilbert's best rendition of the ARISTOCRATS joke. Old Groucho's over-explanation of every aspect of the joke turns it into an endless Pi equation.
Now I know what it's like to laugh so hard you're suffering.
i remember on anthony cumia show anthony said he met groucho and asked him for a autograph whil he was in a old wooden wheelchair. and gilbert said "OH GOD YOU ASKED HIM FOR A AUTOGRAPH, THAT WAS PROB THE THING THAT KILLED HIM" hahahahahha
Does anyone know which Dick Cavett interview Gilbert is talking about? There are a couple on RUclips but I couldn't find one where he does the bit
Gottfried is one of the most underrated impressionists of all time. This is brilliant as are most of his impressions.
Best Stern guest ever. Not even close.
Dude, no doubt about it. When Gilbert came on the Stern show it was genius comedy radio
😅😅😅😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
I watched those Groucho interviews on Dick Cavett way back in the day and couldn't wait for him to be on again! He would sing those crazy song dittys also, hysterical.
You can tell at some points where his comedy laugh ends and his deep down personal laugh begins !! Like when he said windows is something you look out of LOL totally himself and totally funny !
I realized that after you mentioned it. Thanks for pointing it out!
RIP Gilbert. This impression slays me, I listen to his Groucho, from Stern, if I need a good laugh.
This is my fan-fiction of Groucho Gottfried describing how Vaudeville worked, back in his day.
"Now back in MY day...we had these books called scripts. These books had words, which you might say, out loud, if you were performing in a number. You see, back in my day, a number could be a digit to represent a specific quantity or an act in a performance. As a performer, typically, you would need words in order to communicate with the audience. Unless of course, you were a dancer. Now back in my day, dancers typically moved their feet around in order to appear more active than if they were standing still....Jugglers were another story...Some of them might use words or they might just throw balls, into the air in a rhythmic pattern, without talking at all. Now back in my day: if you had an actor, a dancer and a juggler then you might have what we called a "Vaudeville" review."
I could listen to Gilbert's old Groucho ramble for weeks on end.
"A window is something you can look out of." I don't know why that's so funny to me
That killed me 😂
It's almost mean. But it is spot on. I think Groucho would have approved. You really don't expect that someone with a voice like Gilbert's (and he exaggerates his own voice, but still) to just nail impersonations. He should do more of them.
My God this could be an impersonation of any number of my grandparents friends growing up
Gilbert you fuck, you're the best !
Gilbert Gottfried needs to be preserved.... His laugh is everything...
Absolutely one of the most naturally funny guys on the planet. RIP
Love Gilbert🤣😂!
I always love Gilbert's "latter days Groucho marx" impression lolololol
RIP, Gilbert. And thank you for the laughs.
how did he make that strained-voice sound, that was perfect
The whole point of this is probably that Groucho was trolling Cavett. The offended people don't get it. I almost peed.
I doubt it.
R.I.P. Gilbert Gottfried.
This is AWESOME!!
No one laughed like Gilbert!
God Bless Him.
💗
😂
OMG.... This made me laugh so hard!!! Love Gilbert!!!
I love Groucho and I love this impression!😅 (Also love the people in the background going about their business.)
One of the best interviews ever!😂🤣
He needs the cigar and the hat too. Brilliant.
Gilbert's laugh makes me laugh 😂 😂 😂
Gilbert's the funniest man on the planet.
Says who? Him?
Chris Stone - Who are you to judge? ALL of your RUclips videos are stolen material.... clearly you don't know how to be funny yourself.
Alan Hartstein said so- weren't you paying attention?
This will never not be funny.
Eric Scroggs never it's a scream
Groucho was pretty demented at the end.
Gilbert's a national treasure
Oh this is glorious... family.. agents office 😂😂😂😂😂
I just saw Gilbert show in Ottawa tonight at Yuk Yuk's on Elgin Street
and he was so fuckin on fire.
Hey!! finally turned over the counter to a hundred!! And of course, I really enjoy GG -- what a fantastic laugh...
He sounded more like an old Cosby, which was appropriate, since he appeared on his show in the mid-80s.
Genius personified!
I love his laugh 😂
There aren't many things that make us laugh out loud but this is certainly one of them.
Love him and miss him so much.
I love Gilbert..lololol...
That was absolutrly brilliant, a genuinely funny guy, even at his most extreme and when the envelope was well and truly being pushed, I could not help find him funny. A true talent.
Haven’t laughed so hard in awhile
He has Groucho perfectly!
the ultimate brilliantly funniest part is at 3.25 (phone) 😂😂😂
This is the funniest Groucho impression ever. He would even love this!
Especially because it isn't "dirty." ;)
jemimallah see if you can find George Fenneman's interview in Time magazine right after Groucho's death in 1977. He was Groucho's sidekick on "You Bet Your Life." He spent a lot of time with Groucho before his death. Read it and see what you think.
I don't think he's suggesting Groucho was senile here, he was just pointing out some of his amusing anecdotes. If you watch those Dick Cavett interviews, he really does go off on these tangents, but Gilbert obviously plays it up a bit more for laughs. I think it's very funny and not in any way mean-spirited.
Yes, Ogma01! You get it!
No. Clearly a bunch of jack off fans of Godfried. Nobody even knows shit about Groucho Marx except what they learned through youtube clicks from this shitty video.
Gilbert is fucking great!
He had a great jerry seinfeld impression.
He does this for Ileana Douglas on his podcast 😂😂😂
Can't remember when I laughed this hard. Ty Gilbert!! God bless Groucho.
This is so funny for some reason that I can't pinpoint
@3:20 We've been talking to people that weren't there for centuries, but nobody used a phone and it was considered odd.
HOOOOOLY MACKEL!!!
R.I.P. Gilbert. Say hi to Groucho for us.
one of the funniest things ive seen in my life!
I saw Gabriel Kaplan do a stage show on HBO years ago. He was right on the money.
Gottfried is the only comedian that makes me laugh when he cracks himself up. Red Skeleton, Rich Little and all the other hacks utilized this device to elicit laughter. (HACKS I say!) At least Gilbert is genuine.
“Back in my day, we had reporters and this was a poison’ who woiked’ for the paypus’ and asked questions of people and celebrities and type up his stories and put them in the newspapers. Now, we had the morning paypus’ and in the afternoon we had the supplement and then afta’ dinna’ we had what was called back then, the evening edition...”
