"Back then we had a thing called 'youtube', where you'd watch Gilbert Gottfried imitate old Groucho Marx talking about how back then, we had a thing called the movies..."
Some of those appearances you mention show Groucho to be in good form for a 80 yr. old man who had been smoking cigars since his early teens. Yes, in them he's nowhere near as spitfire fast as he was in his prime years of the 1930s/40s or even during his tenure as the You Bet Your Life quizmaster a decade before, but ole' Grouch's acerbic wit and sly humor remained largely undiluted by age up to around 1971. Gilbert's impression of a senile Groucho are largely based on post-1971 public appearances. Nearly everyone of these were ill-advised showings of a startlingly frail old man rambling off in a fragile voice Marx Bros. related factoids and anecdotes that had been told by him with much greater humor, zest, and aplomb in more healthy times. And this was Groucho on the days when all compromised cognitive cylinders were firing for him, mind you! All of which goes to show....man, getting old fucking sucks!
The lady being rolled down the stairs by a Richard Widmark was probably one of the most diabolical scenes ever. He ties her hand calls her an old bag and rolls her die the stairs and it tumbled face first.
God: Everybody get's ONE. Marx: But there's TWO of them! God: Only one, no exceptions.. Marx: Was that Gottfried making fun of my WHEELCHAIR? God: Yes..... Yes it was Marx: I've made my choice...
thats actually what i love about gilbert, he met all these old people who died years ago who were popular in 1920 and always talked about it and nobody knew who tf they were lol
Dude I love this, it's like on the old Simpsons where they'd show clips of Krusty the Klown's show from previous decades, and Krusty's hair and clothes would be dramatically different.
I miss Gilbert
R.I.P. Gilbert Gottfried and Groucho Marx.
Me too. At least we have old Howard Stern and Gilbert's Podcast.

It's hard to pick a favorite clip. Gilbert was so great at everything. I loved him so much.
This is so funny. Groucho was quick. But during those interviews late 60s early 70s, it was beyond sad. Gilbert does the impression perfectly.
Spot on impression of the enfeebled Groucho Marx.

Groucho or Gilbert?
YES!
The best has as much worth as the worst.
No bar mitzvah so he technically doesn't count.
Love these clips where Ant can just riff with someone who’s not itching to go to the phones

Uncanny impression of poor Groucho in his dotage.
Miss you Gil!
Oh, geez. Either the event wasn't in 1972, or this guy's way off. Groucho died August 19, 1977.
God: Everybody get's ONE.
Marx: But there's TWO of them!
God: Only one, no exceptions..
Marx: Was that Gottfried making fun of my WHEELCHAIR?
