- It's been for years! Four years of me sitting in a closet screaming about ice cream, talking about Panera, talking up the canadian government, pretending to be 5 - 50 years old, and just having a damn good time. I wanted to make this video for young me, or beginner you. This breaks down what I wish I knew when I was first getting started.
I'm here to help you become a full-time actor, so I put together some resources for you to check out!

3 months into studying VO and all of this is top tier information! Glad I stumbled onto your videos and your words are truly motivating. Thank you for taking the time to do this.
Welcome aboard and thank you! I’m glad that you’re finding the videos helpful. I just try and make what I wish I had when I was just getting started. If you have any questions feel free to ask!
Hello 👋 can we be friends am a beginner VO and need to know people who are into it
I do voices for a friends abridged series and i use the same mic i use for gaming. Some random amazon headset, and everyone tells me my audio quality is really good 🤣 but its really just me deleting the background noise with audacity 😅
Smart
Nice! How do you delete the background noise on Audacity?

Man, am I glad I stumbled into your video. I'm not particularly "new" at this; quite honestly it's been a hobby for about five years but only recently am I deciding to start moving into making it a full-time gig.
You get right to the heart of it, you're not trying to sell anything, just giving great info.
Thanks!
i like how you went right in with the topic of the video! veeery educative and straight to the point. lovely work, you're the best!
This video - as someone who is trying to seriously make VO a full time career - was easily one of the most helpful resources I've found after years of watching others' takes on it. Thank you for making these.
I am really glad you mentioned the Industry standards pricing thing, I had NO idea that the things I'm trying to do make THAT much. I was ready to make less than a grand a month voicing a character somewhere, but apparently the standard is 75-125 PER HOUR??? That's a lot more than I was expecting.
Congratulations on four years in VO. This is such a great video. Thank you.
Thank you so much! Glad that I could help.
I feel like you just took us by the hand like a dear friend and laid everything out plain and clear with love and encouragement. Thank you ❤️
i am just starting out, but i'm terrified either i won't have the right equipment or the right set for sound proofing. I don't know anyone who have or work in this industry. I love your videos and I hope you do more! You're my favourite in the industry! I'm doing so much research!!
Same!
@@HarleyQuinnJokr I’m in the same exact spot u were 3 months with the same concerns. Been researching like crazy the last 2 days. Think I’m gonna go for it with the bare minimum at first and see if I get lucky. Any progress for you so far?
To be honest, if you don't need to scream in your text, and you know how to edit your audio clips, I feel like you can get away with no/poor soundproofing. Maybe not for the highest bidders, sure, but for some amateur/low paying work, sure.
Amazing video! We’ll spoken. Extremely useful. Love the passion. Home run!
Awesome, thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoy it and found it useful!
Thanks for the amazing advice Javaughn! I'm considering getting into voice-overs/acting and your advice is greatly appreciated.
... like a mini Masterclass!! "by your command".
I try! Glad that you found it helpful!
Thank you! I am currently in my first season to pursue to Voice Over acting
Framing! Every professional actor does this. I just learned this mandatory technique last week from my coach. Now, personally, all that stands in my way is figuring out how to make professional sounding samples.
Thank you for the video! It is so cool seeing how knowledge intertwines. I can’t wait to bring a project to life!
Well said! It's been a truly amazing tool to use. I've seen the amount of auditions that I land jump up with just taking a few seconds to answer these questions each time.
You really are great. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us, it says a lot about you as a human too. blessings for you big time.
Love that after all the videos I’ve been watching starting out (not as an actor, by the way) that you’re saying something here.. about “taking a stance” that was SUPER helpful as I decide what to offer 1st and go for:))
Javaughn, I just discovered your channel today. This is the third of your videos I've watched in a row. I'm working on a short film dealing with the amateur boxing world called "Down For The Count" which will be 95% narrated. You are an inspiration and a very generous guide: keep up the good work: I'll be in your audience learning as much as I can.

Thank you for sharing your heart and voice. It feels so uplifting and positive to listen to you
Congratulations! I’ve been stopping and starting from the past year and a half. I think I’m really ready to jump in , once I get my place soundproofed better. Waiting for it to come in. Thank you! Very helpful, informative and encouraging.
Wow! Thank you very much. Lots of great advice. I've only started this month and have booked three projects already but I had no idea what the true industry rates are. This is super helpful. Thank you!
Wow. Appreciate your candid talk about brands, your brand and $$ at pro level..;)
Congrats on the 4 yearss!!🎉❤️
Dude thank you very much on all the tips. I'll try and do what I can to grow as an actor and study the craft like I study anything else.
Right on Chief! Congratulations! Your recommendations and advice have strengthened my resolve as a beginner. I know that I can clear another hurdle. God bless you.
Happy to help, best of luck!
Came across you by happenstance, so glad I did. thank you 🙏🏽 for your knowledge. I am just starting out, look forward to learning more from you on my journey
Glad that I could help you out!
This is really good stuff. I've only messed around recording myself. Not very good at editing, but want to get there. I'm starting late in life, but what the hell, right? You will be a huge resource for me. Thanks so much.
Thank you for the info :D Im new and looking to hit the ground running this definitely helps! Congrats on 4 years! thats awesome!
Thank you! And welcome to the world of VO, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to shoot them my way!
You look a lot like Earnie in "KC Undercover" On Disney Channel. Especially in the thumbnail of this video when you smile
Thank you thank you! Lots of fantastic information
Glad it was helpful!
I've been fumbling around VO for about as long as you, without the progress yet.
One thing I've noticed about the VO space is it's lousy with neurodiverse people (myself included), so the "building relationships" advice is a higher hurdle than for neurotypicals.
Agreed on the rate advice. If people try to underpay you, it's because they don't value you.
Stop putting yourself in a category and maybe things will be become easier
If The Rock can be a voice actor then so can i
This was very helpful, thank you 😊
Very informative. Thank you
Thanks for the tips
Glad I found you. I've been in and out of studying and performing VoiceOver, coming from a musical family and being in the studio, mainly home studios. What do you think about USB mics like the Yeti and their quality? I need to get a new XLR mic and audio interface, but do have a Yeti right now. I have the entire Adobe suite, so will likely use Adobe Audition.
when you say do our own samples, you mean from scratch? as in make the script and everything?
Or do you mean record scenes from movies/series?
I'm new, and i'm still learning, but i'm also broadening my knowledge on this kind of things 😊
GREAT content! Thank you!
Thank you Javaughn !
New subscriber and starting my journey! Binging the channel
You got this!
Thank you!
Wow great content..thank you...subscribed
I'm researching getting into this profession. I'm curious about your point of having a stance when reading. Is it common, nonexistent, or maybe a mix of both for them to give you some direction on the desired tone when auditioning? Or are you just winging it?
*Me taking notes 📝*
Thank yoy 😊
Question if I wanted to become a VA would I need to take VA lesson or acting lessons?
I'm not a V.A but I have heard actual V.A's recommend acting lessons since it's a pretty big part of the job.
@TheZetoBlade
I just found you and I've subscribed ✨🫰🏻 I'm happy for your success 🎉🎉
