First time commenting. Geofatboy is the father figure male role model who has taught me how to shave with confidence. You're a blessing to so many people, including myself! Thanks, Geo!
Been watching this channel for almost a decade, I was about 15 when I first watched a geofatboy video. My dad died when I was 16, and never had a chance to show me how to shave properly but I learned everything I need to know and more from geo.
I'm 19 and when I first started shaving around 16/17, I didn't know how to do it. For the past 2 years, I used to apply cold water to my face before shaving and even though I have thin hair, it was still hard to get rid of the hair. I ended up cutting myself a lot because the hair follicles were tight from the cold water. From watching you recently, I can now shave properly, by applying hot water to my face before the shave to soften the hairs and I don't press the blade hard against my skin anymore because the hair comes off so easily now. I just wanted to say thank you for the advice and I hope you continue to show people how to shave the proper way.
I know a lot of people struggle with it, but I suggest trying to switch hands when switching sides of the face, for both lathering and shaving. Takes some getting used to but it helps reduce variables and makes things more consistent.
Gillette skin guard is the best. They’re pricy but each blade lasts me 2-3 weeks face & head. I’ve tried every razor out there & skin guard gives me the best results
Well it is April Fools Day after all😱 Geo ain't afraid of nuthin', maybe in a week or so when his skin heals we'll see him in a new video. That was hard to watch but you managed to pull it off, good go. Thanks Geo✌
I do this occasionally when I don't want a DE shave and it's late at night. I use ARKO shave stick with a Proraso boar brush. I do 2 passes exactly the same as a DE razor. Very quick .... still not my preference but it works especially when tired
He definitely took one for the team with that shave. I gave up shaving with catrage razors because they gave me razor burn and left my face all red, now I shave with a combination of safety razor and shavette cut throath(working my way up to the original cut throath razor) and at this stage shaving with a catrage razor is a more frightening prospect than the DE razor and shavette combined was.
April fools day aside, and being close to Geo's age,.As a teenager who went to Catholic school, the Gillette good news twin was decent. Then thought the Mach 3 was great. Fusion, its tearing and cost brought me to the safety razor.
I was 100% expecting this to be an April Fool's gag but leave it to Geo to show us how it's done. I find it almost impossible to get a good shave with a cartridge anymore but I used one for 30 years before switching to safety razors. If you are on the fence I think it's worth trying a safety razor because I get such better shaves. Thanks Geo!
I'm the very same as you shaved with catrage razors most of my life switched to safety razor in April and the ironic thing is the safety razor is much less likely to nick you or give you razor burn the shavette is a bit more likely to nick you but gives a great shave and no razor burn either, both much better than the catrage razor in my oppinion
@@Minime163 it is ironic. I always nicked my neck next to my Adam's apple with a cartridge razor and I very rarely do that with a safety razor. There's literally nothing I prefer a cartridge razor for compared to a safety razor. I'm glad to hear that you gave it a try and that it's working so well for you!
I left the world of cartridge razors and fellas simply need to understand that a quality DE razor will give them NOT ONLY a better shave, but save them money. I'm telling the world! Lol..I will never go back. My R41 is my baby
I started wet shaving, a month ago, with a cartridge after decades of using an electric shaver. I also use cream from a tube and use the three-pass method. I make my cartridges last longer by stropping them on the underside of my forearm. That method seems to work well.
Not as good as gilette's and all the other catrage razor's makers very lucrative prank appart from the reasons geo gives us and we know ourselves from experience. The cost of the blades for them just doesn't to my mind justify using catrage razors. I took a fit of nostalgia this morning (I'm Irish no explanation needed)and decided to get a match3 like my other one that I gave to my nephew when I started de and straight razor shaving well the nostalgia wasn't long leaving me when i seen the price of the blades to be replaced by the memory of the razor burn it gave me.
Never tried the 5 blade "fusion", but used a mach 3. Brought a Gillette King C and pack of blades and left the cartridge razors behind. I then got myself a Bluebeard Cutlass (apparently the same head as a Maggard V3A?), and have just added a Muhle R41 to my collection. Tried a shavette but not really got into that much so far, didnt seem to give a much closer shave than a DE, but did result in a couple of nicks and a bit of razor burn lol
My first shave with the shavette was much the same then I started shaving with better blades Wilkinsonsword in my case got a good shave the first time but not as good as the safety razor second time didn't thicken the shaving lather left it slightly thinner than normal and got at least as smooth a shave as the safety razor and no Nick's. The first derby blades were so bad that when I got 3/4 nicks with the Wilkinsonsword I was delighted
11:30 Thank you very much for actually showing me how to do it correctly. Love your video!! Thanks.. i needed some instructions because sometimes I cut my face and need to know the correct method for not having a cut face.
Hi geo, sometimes when you are in a hurry it is easy to use a cartridge. Fast and furious.... Still the safety is a better face protector and gives another pleasure.
Safety razor shaves just as fast when you get used to them I've been wet shaving scence I started shaving in the 80's and the safety razor was no great change from the catrage in technique but a much better and comfortable shave
Very good and educational video! Wish I had seen it before I changed over to DE shaving as it may have helped. But now that I've switched I'm NOT going back.
Excellent video! An old trick I learned when shaving with a cartridge was to rinse it with hot water, and then plunge the razor into some ice water or as cold as your tap produces. That greatly reduces razor burn. After use, I stored it in a small jar of mineral oil with a few drops of cinnamon or wintergreen oil. That seemed to keep it sharper for longer and was a disinfectant of sorts. Like you, though, I prefer using safety razors. Again, your videos are outstanding!
Good tip I gave my match3 to my nephew about 2 months ago after I started shaving with the safety razor in April I shaved a beard with it first shave with the safety razor and got 4 more shaves and no razor burn with it so that's me finished with catrage's as buying one would be a waste of money when I have a razor I like with much cheaper blades
GEO! what are you doing? Shaving with a modern 5 blade razor. I can get a bbs with a 2 blade. But it still can't replace my SINGLE edge thirty four C. I guess I'm a die hard single edge fan! Thanks to YOU!!! GEO
I tend to rinse a cartridge more often during the shave. I use a cartridge to do “ pickup time, baby”, as PaulH says. I have a spot on my neck that’s tough to get with a DE, so I use a Harry’s Truman.😊 Thanks Geo for the vids!
That sure looks painful. Haven't shaved with a cartridge razor in many years. Love shaving with an old fashioned DE safety razor. Geo got me hooked DE safety razors looonnng time ago.
Hi geo Godbless you always and your family. I want to know which is your best face shaver in this moment. Please be honest. Your best DE and Cartridge razor
I'm glad you don't color your hair anymore. To me, this is only for men who have problems with aging. We don't have gray hair, it's frots because we're cool.
With today being April 1st I thought you were going to say: 1. Open the garbage 2. Throw your cartridge razor in the garbage 3. Shave with a safety, single edge, or straight edge razor.
That’s the kind of pretentious thing I’d expect from most shaving channels but I like Geo because he’s chill and just gives unbiased info to help anyone. Even ppl that use cartridges.
@@Noadvantage246 sorry I was only joking because it was April 1st when he posted. I actually shaved with a cartridge for 30+ years and occasionally still use one if I’m in a hurry.
My favorite cartridge is the Gillette Skin Guard that fits on any Fusion(R) compatible handle but only has 2 blades and they are spaced so as not to have hysteresis effect so does not cause ingrown hairs. My favorite handle for these cartridges is the Parker metal Travel (short) handle. Works well for me traveling or at home. Also something to use in a hurry or when traveling is Cremo cream or hair conditioner. Many of the hair conditioners in hotels work surprising well for shaving and you really don’t have to rinse the cartridges that often with hair conditioner.
@@Lemingtona-x5g speak for yourself please. I get a very acceptably close shave with the SkinGuard. All beards grow out. Nobody but me is rubbing my face. I use the SkinGuard when working during the week as a physician and shaving every week day so comfort and lack of skin irritation are infinitely more important to me than closeness and I definitely don’t want ingrown hairs that hysteresis exacerbate or outright cause.

Great video for those who still use the cartridge razor :) honestly, what I am doing recently is to start my shave with the Rockwell R1 razor, then switch to a safety razor with a higher blade exposure (this is one I luckily found in the market recently, it was pretty cheap and it's more aggressive) and at the end I use my shavette so I can get the baby smooth skin I want. I want to upgrade and find a better quality safety razor that gives me a closer shave compared to the Rockwell R1. I am new with the safety razor so probably my skill still isn't there but using the Rockwell r1 for full body shave is awesome. Do you know about the Evok Razor blades? On my safety razor they feel really amazing.
It seems that you had much faster shaving with the cartridge razor, than the DE razor. But, if we talk about the consequences, irritation is much common with cartridge razors, and you don't have it, because you have a pretty thick skin. I would lose a layer of my face skin if I did the same. Off the topic. I realized that we have two angles when we use our DE razors. I realized that in periods when I have a beard, and I shave (without lather) my throatline every two days. I realized that I sometimes have a smooth shaving of my throat hair (when my angle is right), and sometimes I feel the resistance of the hair, with a bit of a pinch. Then I realized that there are two angles of shaving with DE razors. The first one is with the razor more slanted and shaving is very smooth. Something like you call 'skimming', when you shave your chees. The other angle is not so good. To be more precise, the good angle is when you raise your DE razor handle, and the bad angle is when you lower it a bit. This is not a good angle, because it is more opened than the first one.
Hey Geo, have you ever done any videos of mixing different shaving cream combinations, such as lavender and peppermint and sandalwood etc.? Just wondering, thanks!
