That's just called being good at real defense table tennis most of his balls are smashable balls and every time he attacks he fails and hits the net... He lobs with a pendulum serve or penhold style so it's hard to know backspin or topspin...
So many styles and gimmicks out there we have to learn to deal with ... yeah it's part of the game unfortunately! I could never step back like this with how little space I've got ... Sometimes people are just practicing a specific style against you. I'm 0-10 against this guy, really tricky player!

@@meh6513 funny you mention this now. I've played him again recently and he's really upped his game... Has integrated deeper chops and now his attacks don't always hit the net anymore. He's become quite formidable ! I managed to beat him couple months ago quite a few times but not in his current form.

Nice vid, I gave it a like. Could you tell me about using a paddle vs not in this game? I play at a high level in real life, and just got this game but only been using the regular controller.
I think the main difference of using the paddle is the handle. If you use the controller for a long time it will feel weird trying to hold a paddle in real life I think.
@@Bobsmith77777 can confirm this is true never played table tennis until i got vr got to rank 1900 using controller only tried playing irl on a real table with a real paddle and i was terrible didn't feel the same
I have a weak serve like you (sorry but true) *youre not even mixing it up on serve directions . I’ve only been playing a few months, made it to 1950 but know I need better serves. The good players can crush our level of serves , just my 2 cents. This game is crazy fun tho
I have like 20 different serves but when I play a player like botvr I mostly just do a normal serve because when I do a spin y but slow serve they squally just add more spin on the receive making it harder for me to return
@@PugsGtag yeah, same, its not that hard to do this 'crazy-spinny' serve, but if good player manages to return that serve i struggle to return it back or start attack cuz of that added spin, so i usually stick to normal fast serve
I played simiar style players IRL, they can be quite good, at least on a casual "Best table tennis player in our math department" kind of level. I don't see anything wrong with this style personally, even though it's hard to play against.
That's just called being good at real defense table tennis most of his balls are smashable balls and every time he attacks he fails and hits the net... He lobs with a pendulum serve or penhold style so it's hard to know backspin or topspin...
it's because the chop in the game does stupid backspin sometimes which is hard to return. It's a combination of his bad technique likely making it worse. There were complaints if I'm not mistaken among high level players because some players when they were losing would play an "unreturnable" chop shot which sort of abuses the physics a bit@@meh6513
one of the problems with the game is it allows people to use technique as if they are using cheap paddles while playing high spin attack and defensive shots. Two things which can't happen at the same time. The chops botvr are playing are quite slow and no chance they would dip into the net like you see at 0:53. Just ridiculous. You would need good technique in real life to perform a chop that good. Also the topspin return botvr does of the serve which looks like some penhold BS would not work that well in real life. It's his cheap way of returning a serve to that is in an awkward spot between backhand and forehand.@@meh6513
I don't get it. These spins look quite basic. At 1500 level I always find guys that just put the racket to block a strong forehand spinned forward and their ball starts doing an s trajectory in the air and then goes in the opposite direction when touching the table. I am missing something.
Call the chopper!
A lot of people are adopting this style it seems like the ball goes in no matter what

@@meh6513 I'll try to get an actual footage of that in near future if I can and link to you so you can judge for yourself.
