    Today Luke is setting up and previewing the French F1 Commando Tent!
    ….
    Link : www.keepshootin...
    Price : $39.95 plus shipping
    Weight : 6lbs
    Material : Nylon
    Details :
    The French F1 Commando Tent is one of the most widely used military tents and it still meets the needs of soldiers and civilians today. Most military tents of this size are constructed using shelter halves, whereas this tent is a one-piece complete nylon flysheet. This will mean that you will be able to assemble this tent quicker, it will provide more uniform shelter, and you'll have a better nights sleep while resting in it.
    When these tents were designed, they were built to be a complete system that could be packed in a small carry bag. This system includes the poles, the flysheet, tent stakes, and guylines. You will be able to put these tents in their carry bags into your rucksack and when you are ready to deploy them, you'll truly appreciate how easy they are to set up and maintain. The features of this tent are unlike any other military tent of this size, with the most prominent being you will be fully enclosed once you are inside of the tent. There will be protection from insects, mosquitoes, and other pests that would impact a good night sleep when you need it most.
    · Authentic French Army F1 Commando Tent System
    · Mesh Ventilation Windows on Top of Both Doors
    · Mesh Ventilation with Covered Side Awnings For Maximum Comfort
    · Collapsible Tent Poles, Pegs, Included
    Used condition.
    Material : Nylon

    Hi Luke, That tent is a French Army F2, all nylon finish. The F1 (original) is a cotton fabric inner with a cotton fabric flysheet. The F1(A) has a cotton fabric inner with a nylon flysheet. Regards.

    Needs to be seam sealed and it's a fine tent. I ditched the tent poles and use trekking poles, or if you want to get " Bushcrafty" carve some sticks.Also ditch the pegs.

    I got one of these tents, and with a few mods you can lighten the weight to 4 pounds. First, switch the tent stakes out for the shepherds hook aluminum tent stakes, you will need 16 total. Second, you can remove the springs in the aluminum tent poles. The tent poles will stay together just fine without the spring and it lightens the tent pack. I also picked up a 5 x 7 nylon tarp from Walmart for a ground sheet to protect the floor. I did all the mods to mine and it comes in at exactly four pounds on the US Postal scale with the ground tarp. This tent is awesome and you can pick them up at Major Surplus online. Right now they have both the olive green one and the tan one in stock. BTW, the ones Major Surplus have a screen for the door. So, you can open the front door and leave the screen door zipped shut... no bugs. BTW, i used the tent I got from Major Surplus and had no issues with staying dry. Floor stayed dry and the water beaded off the top nicely. However, if you don't use a ground sheet the floor will become worn and may start to leak. For 10 bucks, the nylon tarp will keep the floor from wearing against the dirt of the ground.

    My friend please stretch the tent better . The wrinkles will produce wave of noise when inside and quiet and the water won't run off as it should. It is a good tent .I have used it many times and just to be on the safe side lay a plastic tarp on the bottom and then build it on top of that. You can place an open poncho on the ridge atop with some cordage and secure it on the ground with some spikes. Produce a mini ditch where the flap ends so any water will travel downhill .Great review and a reminder you don't need a lot of money to go camping!

      Thinking the same thing. However, he's just a salesman not an ojtdoorsman. Besides, his doesn't have the screened door feature. That one is $35.00 ($34.95 and free shipping over $29.99).

    Just Example!
    I own 7 by 7 A Frame Wall Tent with Fair Rain Fly (Yellow) under Western Field (Old one) plus 8 by 10 Camo Tarp with 14 Binder Clips (strong). Simple: just put Camo Tarp on Rain Fly.
    It works from rain or heavy rain. No problem! You should study one Rain Fly or Camo Tarp on Rain Fly. You choose!
    It is up to you all in USA/the World. Good Luck! Thanks for your time. Have a great day!

    As an ex-officer in Germany I just bought it in Germany for 40 Euros for bush crafting. First inspection seems well. I saw a French infantry platoon mounting those next to us in Kinshasa in 2006. I can only say, French military has sound robust stuff and that is why I bought it too. German armed forces does not have complete tents, soldiers wear half of a tent ("one man shelter" or "Dackelgarage") of a way heavier cotton version- good for more varieties of use (making a material package for river crossings etc.), more robust (it hardly can burn) but far heavier (when u count two times of a man package for a complete tent). I think, I will not be disappointed by our "Charlemagne" brothers` version :-) Peace out guys!!

  • @marinepete9148
    @marinepete9148 2 года назад +1

    These tent do a good job if a few things are done properly. First off it looks very loosey goosey, that sagging is a big no go in this type of tent. Two scouts from the pre-90's would have done much better. Get that fabric taught so you can bounce quarters off it. Pull the side awnings tight and the fabric will work as designed and repel water much better. No fly would be needed if taught.
    A cheap tarp under it would save much wear & tear to floor and provide a better protection from the elements.
    Ditch the steel stakes if you plan on backpacking with it, aluminum stakes would save over 1.5# of weight.
    I'll take it any day over the shelter halves we were issued.

    Dude , I had a boyscout pup tent like this back in the seventies, except that mine had noseeum doors under the regular doors ... So you could open it up , and not have to fight the mosquitos...My main gripe with it was it was heavy , hot and hard to get in and out of because of the pole in the middle of the door , you needed a rain fly , or it leaked ... Oh yea , and the color , which was a bright neon blue ...Looks like the only thing they changed was the color . With the new , innovative tent designs out there , with hoops and lightweight fabrics , easy entrance and exit , the ability to join tents togeather to make pods , etc ... this looks like a blast from the past ... Great for a kid on a boyscout outing ... Not so much for an adult .

    i bought this tent and i just used this in the rain. it sadly let a lot of water trough the pieces of fabric that hold the doors open when rolled up. and the roof was really wet when you touch it from inside out. also the stiching of the bathub floor is not perfect but can be fixed by seam sealing.

  • @lprpallet
    @lprpallet 8 лет назад +3

    I bought the same tent last week, a canvas version with a seperate rain fly. I guess it`s the previous version of this one.
    Slept in it last weekend during rain and it stayed nice and dry, Also no moisture at all inside. Only downside is the weight of the canvas but comparing it to this nylon version I think the canvas is far more sturdier and with the rainfly also 100% waterproof.

    I patiently waited until they became back in stock at Major Surplus & Survival and grabbed two. Seam sealer is a must for this tent. Do Not Take It Out Until You Have Applied Seam Sealer or you will be kicking yourself if it rains when erected!!!!

    I own this tent tested for 15 nights in the woods and for the price its super vfm. Only 3 tips. Always use ground sheet (I use a heavy duty trash bag opened) . The ventilation is good except Summer middays so in needs a mosquito net at the entrance to Keep in fully open and finally compression straps help's a lot at carrying outside of a pack

  • @Tutorp
    @Tutorp 8 лет назад +2

    Hey, that's basically my old scout tent! Same vent layout with the outside flaps, same door type, etc., etc. Mine's a fair bit smaller, though (no surprise, it's a kid-sized tent), with doors on only one side, and with bug netting over the door.
    Also, it's in the rather non-camo colouring of purple and pink. :-)

      Jason: agreed. :-) I like TheOutdoorGearReview, but if you think an A-Frame tent with "sectional" doors with three zippers is pretty neat, you are showing your youth. This is not innovative or unusual, it's what everyone had until the zillions of variations bungee-corded poles spouted.

    "testers" of the French tent drive me nuts when they "test" the tent in a rain that is more of a drizzle when we want to know how a tent does in a real rain. in a big storm with a lot of wind, the rain will be going sideways, and that is the real test of a tent. There is a lot of interest in this tent, so I am sure that you will give it a good test.

    A real F1 Commando tent has one entrance with bug netting only...Also an additional fly sheet to cover it ...Look at Bushcraft Boy...Video......

    Seems like you can shed some weight by using lighter stakes and trekking poles instead of the ones that come with it

    Looks similar to a zpack tent, without a vestibule....and dang heavy

    I wish I had the original canvas F1 tent. It's been discontinued, heavy and hot, but it's such a rugged tent.

    Varusteleka is selling them. That's where I got mine. I can't wait to take it out into the woods

    I weighed my stakes and they are 2 pound and the 2 poles are another pound. Tent and all were 7 pound.

    You must have gotten one of the last ones. They are currently out of stock. Cool looking tent though.

    Those poles don't look lightweight. I guess you could use hiking poles instead and save the weight. Like the mesh window on the side.

      The poles are aluminum, so they are lightweight. The only caveat is that they have a metal spring in them, sort of like the shock cord in tent poles for the dome tent. I took out the springs and the poles weigh very little.

    those vents are king. more companies need to take this on board. I have a Luxe Sil minipeak: good ventilation via twin top vents. A Force 10 Helium: decent ventilation, could use top vents. and a mountain hardwear tent with nay vents and...condensation central. I have a Ferrino Chaos and top vent and gaps all round the bottom..condensation minimal. No way would I carry the French Commando tent but the venting options are awesome. i wish my helium had that but it wouldn't weight 1.2 kg if it was so.
