Anyone who grew up with Crossroads or Coronation Street would understand this. An expat listening in S Florida.

Ahhhh Crossroads, wobbly scenery, sticking doors and, phones ringing out of sync. Characters popping out to shops, hever to be seen again.

Mr. Whalley doing what writers are so often advised to do: "Write from your own storehouse of experience." He was a staff writer on Coronation Street, a British soap, for many years. He was having fun satirizing that world.

Not Peter Whalley's best work. Quite annoying

Agree ! He DID write some good stuff but like too many of the radio dramatists of that time he was over indulged by the BBC .
      Virtually anything he wrote was
given the go ahead even when the
quality was not there. He was one of several who obviously had
" Friends " in high places...?

Your judgement of the talent and accomplishments of Peter Whalley seems rather harsh....
With the greatest of respect, may I gently request what your own achievements and successes in this difficult writing genre in which to excel.

Oh you poor lamb, @johnsharples. Tsk tsk.
I shall say one further thing to you son of Ena. He never existed. Sharples. (Who of course, as you know, never existed the son of Ena.
      Ena had 1 daughter. B.
So ok. The disdainful and somewhat petty and inane remarks were both unnecessary and inane.
      Shit happens, n'est pas.

What a pathetic response. I love his work but this piece was terrible. I have just as much right as you (the world authority on radio plays) to make my comment!
