Initially, the series adapted Broadway plays during its first two seasons before it began adapting films. These hour-long radio programs were performed live before studio audiences. The series became the most popular dramatic anthology series on radio, broadcast for more than 20 years and continued on television as the Lux Video Theatre through most of the 1950s. The primary sponsor of the show was Unilever through its Lux Soap brand.

This drama, according to Genome, is from the BBC's Home Service (forerunner to Radio 4) "Afternoon Theatre" ...earliest broadcast on Saturday 11th January, 1964. Written by Derek Benfield and with many of the roles played by members of the BBC Drama Repertory Company of the time.
There's a deft little denouement courtesy of the writer.

Thanks Uncle Chesterton, lad. Well-....'blinking well' -....I never anticipated that ! But there again - I never anticipated Asda to reduce the price of their Spaghetti Pies last weekend, did I ?!. Just goes to show Uncle Chessie - that the mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size. ...

Can anyone explain the Lux Radio Theatre, South Africa for me? Were these in front of a studio as well? Were they created in the 30-50’s as well? Were they “playing” local South African plays & films? Or, were these plays recreated from the U.S. versions in S.A.? Thank you.

A South African version of Lux Radio Theatre ran on Springbok Radio between 1950 and 1985. While having the same name and sponsor, it departed from the American show in that, additionally, British and Australian works were adapted into the hour-long radio formats. Many of the early episodes were direct rebroadcasts of the Australian programs. Lux Radio Theatre was the most enduring show on Springbok Radio, running from the first night of the network's broadcasting life until six months before it went off the air.

I was wondering the same thing.
Some of the Lux radio theatre shows in South Africa were rebroadcasts of plays recorded in other countries.
So it might be that the only connection in this case is that this recording came via Lux radio in South Africa. 🤔

I notice how the Brits can get away with sarcastically asking if someone was a Jehovah's Witness, but Americans would get into a lot of trouble. I've heard this in other radio plays and movies.

@@bon1980 Sorry dear, but I am not on any "pills"and my doctor has not suggested that I take them, and I am not interested in getting another doctor, no matter the opinion.
I really don't see anything incorrect about what I stated, and it's a shame that someone feels the need to show others how lacking in common manners they are. I guess that is a reflection of what their childhood was like and the lack of care that was given to them by their parents. I honestly feel sorry for people like that. Maybe "pills" from their doctor, if they have one could help them and a bit of counselling. I do hope that they get the needed help to help them function properly in society and be a value person.
