I was a child of the sixties & remember my teachers stopping class so we could watch the Apollo launches on TV. This theme music stirs so much in me. When the camera pans across the flag as the trumpets play, I feel so proud. So much history is contained in those notes. I get emotional every single time I watch this clip.
i was born in november of '64, so i remember bits and pieces of this era, but i've read a lot about it over my lifetime and am so proud of the accomplishments folks were able to achieve back then. It's so disappointing that people joke around about or actually believe that Apollo was faked. So many people sacrificed so much to make it happen.
@notmadamous I grew up with the moon program. I still sometimes get overwhelmed with gratitude that of all times in history, I got to be a child in a U.S. public school during exactly that time. The best educational curriculum was on our TV screens during space and moon missions. We saw _why_ we were being educated, because the human race had reached a period of unlimited opportunity.
This is one of THE BEST intros I have ever seen in my 52 years. WOW! The imagery, the music... I was in a playpen during Apollo 11 but after watching this mini-series (on DVD mind you), I FEEL LIKE I WAS THERE FOR THE ENTIRE SPACE PROGRAM!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
This intro still gives me a lump in my throat every time, its truly wonderful. And obviously the show is fantastic! Just got back from my honeymoon to Orlando and visited KSC for the fisrt time in 25 years and theyve really overhauled the visitor area big time since I was last there, some really fascinating stuff and still just about the coolest place to visit on earth for me :) damnit now I need to watch this show again...

A great series telling an important part of American history. Everyone knows about the Apollo 11 landing but there were many other stories to tell that came both before and after. This gives people a chance to learn some of them. How many average people would know about the close call on Gemini 8, or about Al Shepard's triumphant return to space after being grounded for nearly a decade?
This was written by Michael Kamen. If you like it, check out the soundtrack for 'Robinhood - Prince of Thieves'. He wrote that, too, and you'll hear similar chords. He also did the intro music for Band of Brothers.
This soundtrack is what used to remind me of what America was all about, brave pioneers, explorers, freedom and justice, now i look at America with sadness and muted horror at what it has become
I watched this a ton as a kid with my parents but haven’t watched it in years now but I recently found it in our DVD cabinet and think I’ll have to rewatch it now lol. But on HBOMAX so I can have the 4K
I am 58 years old, and if I was told that I had a seat on the next mission to the moon, the only words out of my mouth would be, "When do I report for training?"
I would jump at the chance too, if it was a NASA flight. Somehow, and despite their gimmicky first stage landing videos, I just don't have a huge amount of faith in SpaceX.
