- LISTEN IN HD!!! - My custom soundtrack for From the Earth to the Moon continues with my favorite track from the series. Episode 5 - Spider
Made from editing 4 different audio tracks from the DVD...I have finally finished my From the Earth to the Moon score that doesn't exist.. at least according to HBO. I would venture to say I own the props for taking the time ;) !! Please enjoy! If you have any requests please ask.
HBO has this bad habit of making these insanely good mini series with custom songs, but never releasing the songs individually. Beautiful song.
Hey Folks - I just discovered this thread - curiously on the eve of Thanksgiving......i just wanted to say thank you to all of you for your comments and appreciation of this music - it means a lot to me....I wrote these cues a long time ago for the series.....I hear from some of you occasionally and it always touches me....so thank you - Mason Daring
Well done sir. More people need to view this incredible series and hear your beautiful contribution. Very well done.
Thank you ever so much for such a touching piece. It stirs the soul and really captured the essence of that episode.
Mason, thanks for a superb job. Our young people are NOT taught anything about this these days. Did you know that ? It is criminal to do that, not teach our great history.
So graceful and so ungainly all at the same time. Really captures the essence of the spider. Thank you for an outstanding work of art.
You sir are a legend!!! This piece is so beautiful and I’ve hummed it for over twenty years now. Thank you so much (I’ll have to google your other works now)
"It's a beautiful machine, Tom."
"You really think that thing's beautiful?"
"Hell, no! I think it looks like a toaster with legs, but I'm not about to tell him that!"
"Beauty" misses the mark. It's an elegant machine.
It really was a beautiful ship.
Listening to this Feb of 2023, great piece to help a troubled humanity going through the stages of our worldwide Pandemic,
There aren't many pieces of music that take you to a place so beautiful that you forget to breathe...
...this is one of them.
yes. thank you.
My favorite episode of the series. I get teary eyed every time I hear this. It is a reminder of what human beings can achieve.
my thoughts exactly
Some people say we can't do such things anymore. Bovine excrement. Give us the push or shove and then get out of the way!
It also really elevated the final moments of "Galileo Was Right"
"Professor, I wish we could bring you up here someday"
"That would be... an amazing adventure. But I feel as though I've already been there, thanks to you"
"No, you were with us, Professor. Every step of the way"
Spider should be watch by all technicians and engineering student, what a beautiful machine, what a marvelous team
This piece of music is so relaxing it is hard to describe.
Its also so . . . fitting within the episode. Like a warm blanket over the experience of seeing what I believe is Mankinds greatest tech achievement for its time - the LEM! ;) Also one of my favorite episodes of TV ever made - and pieces of music. I wish more people would see / watch it.
@@bsgtrekfan88 I love the episode for the music. My favourite episode is Apollo 12, "Can we do it?", Apollo 8, Apollo 11 up to Apollo 15.
My dad worked for Sperry and was the design lead for the J-2 engine fuel control module which powered the second stage of the Saturn V rocket. He spent many years commuting from Great Neck, NY to Huntsville, AL and Rocketdyne in southern California to do testing. A great critic of anything on TV and music, he really loved From the Earth to the Moon including the opening theme, closing credits and especially "Spider." Thank you Mason Daring!
I’m a software engineer and every time we are about to release a new app, this music summarizes all of the emotion that we all feel.
I listen to this song every few years, and most times I cry when I do. Partly since the song is so intrinsically beautiful, partly out of pride for what we achieved, and partly out of frustration for what we could have done afterward, but never attempted. I was 23 when we landed on the moon. I'm seventy now and I wonder if I'll see the Mars landing...
Pardon if i ask does you'e was involved in any way with NASA?, i'm just asking ;-)
Look at our country now, 2019. Sad. I would be content to see a moon landing, at this point.
@@PawelK198604 No. Engineer by training who worked in industry.
Na people on Earth are too busy getting triggered over pro nouns.
I have the profoundest respect for the people at Grumman who put their minds, souls and sweat into making the LM a success ... and utter contempt for those who show their ignorance and stupidity by claiming the moon landings were faked.
5 star comment!
From the earth to the moon is the best miniseries, ive worn out dvds on bluray of it now
Just read all these comments… this song gives chills when I Lisent to it… when I first saw on the series I had to keep rewinding at times to hear and in that time it was so hard to find something like this and own it… now I can just look it up.
To think that humanity was able to perfect space travel from earth to another planet, design machines that could land on another planet and then after Apollo 17 to just decided right then and there to stop and call it quits. Can you imagine how much further we could’ve gone if we had the will to do so.
Best piece of music in the whole series. The peaceful flow, the layers building upon each other...wow!
This is by far my favorite miniseries.
I design and build space power supplies. My soul is in my designs. My power supplies will out live me and mankind. I will leave a part of me in space.
A very fitting tribute to the minds that built the LEM. It is probably one of the most interesting backstories in the race to the moon. We need symbols of working together again in this country to remind us of what we can do together instead of looking for ways to tear this country apart. I would like to see us make more strides as a nation working together.
Six of them took humans to the moon...
Their names were:
- Eagle
- Intrepid
- Antares
- Falcon
- Orion
- Challenger
And for all of them, their success is owed to the first lunar module to carry a crew in space, Apollo 9's Spider.
Amen to that. Our country should be looking forward and outward, not obsessing over its own internal divisions.
"... first dreamed of her" gets me every time
This song is really something else. It did feel sad watching Spider drift off into space.
Let's not forget the great crew of Apollo 9. Commander Jim McDivitt along with CMP Dave Scott and LMP Rusty Schweickert. The crew is all still alive with Gen McDivitt being now 90 years old. Would love to see someone track him down for an interview. They won't be with us much longer.
I am definitely bringing this track with me on a phone or an mp3 player or some kind of device if ever I get the chance to fly into space, because this is the PERFECT track for just staring at the Earth with
That I always have to come back here and get tears in my eyes… This music describes very well how I feel emotionally when people do their best and create wonders that carry us on.
My favorite music track from the series.
Mine too. Just watched the episode tonight. My wife and I are watching the entire series - she never saw it before. SPIDER is my favorite episode.
Absolutely beautiful.
same here ;)
the best episode...........best music................... do you all know how hard it was to build the LM ?????????? unbelievably hard.
im a hard nosed bastard and this tune makes me cry overtime. what an achievement going to the moon was.
One of the most heroic tunes I've ever heard, it truly captures the modesty and humility that comes with heroics!
Wonderful. I grew up with Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo. How far we have fallen since those days.
Kathy Mosher Little ego gain today and no profit.
Maybe next decade though.
@ssocks35 Watch the youtube of the launch of Apollo 16 on NBC and you will see what it was like. It was awesome !
Phantastic Music, and absolutely phantastic Dokumentation!.
I never get tired of watching this mini series
I've watched this episode more than 10 times. What a masterpiece. The cast and soundtrack are just fantastic.
Such a lovely piece, and then to find such a lovely comments section.
The most beautiful music from the series in my opinion, just breathtaking!
If it were not the genius engineers at Grumman, a person may never have stepped on the moon. Most of us know the names of the astronauts and cosmonauts, but hardly anyone remembers the names of the people thanks to which space travel is possible at all.
watched this episode a few days ago, can't get this song out of my head
This was my favorite episode. The score here was just fantastic as the grumman guys are brainstorming. To me, the episode gave the lander a personality. It was like it was a living thing. Well done.
My God, it's so beautiful I could cry!
Just like others here I happened to watch the series at some point in life, felt in love for it's soundtrack (this piece included) and search for the soundtrack from time to time, to see if I failed on my last attempt or to see if it were eventually released. And I'm eight years late on finding this video.
Thank you for this recreation, and thank you Mason Daring for it's composition! It's a shame a proper soundtrack album for the series were never released.
Now I'm really crying: the music is there, on Mason's website. And it has a name. =')
The search that for me started fifteen years ago has now finally come to it's end. #joy
This music is so beautiful--a masterpiece of orchestration, by Mason Daring. Thanks so much for posting it!
What a great piece of music commemorating a great achievement. The scene at the end - "This one is the Eagle" - gets me right in the heart every single time.
I have a hard time picking which moment with this song hits me harder:
"... first dreamed of her" or "This one is the Eagle" from ep 5...
or "You were with us, Professor. Every step of the way" from ep 10
This is an era with the greatest inspiration above all others. Hearing the music makes me dream about what they did, and hope for us to do the same once more some day. Thank you for this great piece of work!
This is my favourite track from the entire series, even though it's one of the simplest. One of my favourite episodes too
I remember the first time watching this as a kid and cry at how beautiful it was then going to the air and space museums and seeing it there on display. It's so ugly it's gorgeous and this music has stayed with me I get chocked up hearing and being flooded with all the memories of being a kid looking up at the sky.
Watching this episode again and the tears won't stop I love this series but this episode hits so hard. The LEM is so so beautiful and the spider is gorgeously ugly. 😍
I can't get out of this music. It's been 5hrs to watch.
A very sweet, sad piece of music, for that piece of human ingenuity that flew!🇺🇸
Episode 5 is my favorite. Many emotions ,strong story.I love this one.
Fellow fans dong forget to listen in 720 or 1080..it does make a difference ;)
"....Do you really think it is beautiful? Of course not, it looks like a toaster with legs, but I am not going to tell him that...!"
Absolutely Fantastic montage of video work! Perfect song....Great editing- great pictures.... goose-bumps moment, makes me want to watch the HBO series.... Thanks for a beautiful work of art! :)
Thank you, youtube and thank you, bsgtrekfan88. Just re-watched the whole series today and this theme just keeps floating through my mind. It really is a great documentary with a great soundtrack.
A damn shame this isn't officially available... it's a beautiful score. Thanks for the hard work putting this together!
canonelan2 indeed
You can get the soundtrack of the series, it is great.
@@bsgtrekfan88 you can get the soundtrack.
No you can’t get the score that’s why I made this playlist by spending hours removing the sfx and dialog
a big fan of this song(and this episode) from South Korea! thank you so much for posting this song!
THANK YOU for editing this together and posting it! It's been years since I've heard it, and after watching some Apollo videos I did a search to see if it had ever been made available. Played this video and was in tears within 5 seconds. Damn.
The scene where they finally get into orbit, everything is suddenly quiet after MECO, and the stray nut floats away from the deck... just a beautiful moment.
Love these and thank you for taking the time to make these available!!!
Its funny, you type in from the earth to the moon soundtrack and spider is the first fill in. This one was the best
LISTEN IN HD!!! - My custom soundtrack for From the Earth to the Moon continues with my favorite track from the series. Episode 5 - Spider

Love it! My favorite episode of the series, especially because for 7+ years I was the Executive Director of the Michigan Space & Science Center, where the Apollo 9 CM, "Gumdrop" was displayed. I think it was the most "unappreciated" of the Apollo flights.
McDivitt was one of the great astronauts. Did you ever get to meet him?
Fantastic editing, thank you. And I love this music from Mason Daring, great job. This fantastic miniseries definitely deserves a soundtrack release with the inspiring music of Michael Kamen, Mason Daring and James Newton-Howard. Hope that Filmscoremonthly or Lalaland dig into the stuff.
You have no idea how this piece has literally saved me a few times in my darkest hours over the last couple of years. My father is dying at 61 years young right now and I am listening to this on loop to unburden my soul. God bless you, sir/ma'am.
+RobotWookiee same here ;)
+RobotWookiee - This brought tears to my eyes.. I can't explain it, it just does
+Rick Wagoner I'm glad we could connect for but a moment on a pretty much anonymous social network website. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it really hits home. Cheers.
So sorry for your loss. I took care of my dad for five years. He had alzheimer's and dementia. I needed this soundtrack to soothe my soul, as well. And, it's the one episode in the series that just makes me bawl.
I'm using this music to help me make it through a very difficult time with bipolar.
“This one? This one is the Eagle……”
This was my favorite piece of music from the series.
I love it! Thank you so much for that!
Thanks for finding this track! Such a lovely piece.
They should've had the story of the Saturn V and how that was built as well. The LEM was very impressive but the Saturn V was too.
This is, without a doubt, some of my favorite "mood music"! Whenever I'm about to finish an art piece or model, this is going through my head!
good job!
So inspiring this episode and this bit of music.
TheGroundedAviator thanks its my favorite of the ones I created (edited)
***** No problem.
Whenever I would say goodbye to my old army buddies whom I served alongside, I would always say "So long, Spider!". Walking away, I would ponder if I would ever see them again. This evokes much emotion out of me.
"You're right, its a lot for one mission. Maybe too much. If we get even half of it done, we can call it a success. ... I CAN'T WAIT!!!"
Thank you for this, and the whole FTETTM collection.
Before I found you on RUclips, I was able to get a copy of this piece from Mason Daring's website. I had to have it because it speaks to me, as the lead character says, of loss, of letting go, of saying goodbye to something/someone who you know you will never see again. You know you are losing a piece of yourself.
I used it as part of a tribute I made to my father on his death just a few years ago. I was the perfect blend of pride and nostalgia, hope and loss. Beautiful music for a beautiful man.
+t agosti Do you still have the CDs available?
+t agosti ill be making them around xmas time ;)
amazing episode, amazing music, amazing series, amazing pics, thanks for posting
Excellent video! My mother knew Rusty Schweickhart when he was at MIT. The music is very moving. It's almost like a lullaby. As my little son sleeps in my arms, I wonder if his generation will be the first to send a mission to Mars?
Very nice, this was my favorite episode, with the beautiful music. You did a fantastic job blending all the scenes together, Thanks for a great job!
What a wonderul job you've done here. Have long wanted this.
This series is back on HBO! Had to come back to listen to your soundtrack edit. Thanks for all your work!
love this theme.
i've grown up at the late "apollo-time" and, after from earth to moon was available on dvd here in germany, the disc-set followed me throughout the last years.
Episode 5 /LEM was & will be my favourite, seen over and over.
thank you for your effort to compilate this wonderful soundtrack!
you've made my day..
Beautiful; absolutely beautiful. You made my day.
I wish we believed in ourselves as much now as we did then.
Thank you so much for posting this.
TheHixMix any time ;)
Thank for the great music mash!
Absolutely beautiful score! Very soothing and comforting!
Great job; great song, great series
this is the best episode, i like so much the figure of tom kelly, and this music really give at the LM a soul!!
It was a wonderful, unbelievable time, I was there. It affected my whole life for the better, I am sure. When will we ever go back ? And who will that be ? :(
Thanks for posting this. The released FTETTM soundtrack wasn't much to listen to.
Beautiful, made my day
Thank you! Good work!
Thank you Leroy Grumman, and thank you to all of the men and women of Grumman Aerospace ("the Grumman Ironworks"). The LEM is still the ONLY true manned spacecraft ever (can only fly in space)... I miss Long Island terribly, but the Long Island I was so proud of is gone forever....
good vid man it stayed true to the music and the movie
RIP Max Wright, he played Gunter.
I wonder where Guenter Wendt?
@@stephanelabelle9333 he's the pad boss in heaven...
@@sethkimmel7312 ...and RIP Gene Kranz... Heaven needs a Flight Director too.
Great piece
Thanks, this is beautiful
A great mini series!,,
I love this.
In my opinion, Spider is one of the best, if not the best, episode of the show. I'm not saying that the other episodes are not good, they are what is making that its one of the greatest show ever.
My thoughts exactly. God bless you!
Back when we were all waiting for the soundtrack to From The Earth To The Moon to come out and the music for, "Spider", I came across a little gem I think most of you will enjoy. It's of course not the exact same song note for note. But it does have the same flavor, it's real close, brothers and sisters. Look up ... and dream. :) RUSSEL WALDER THIS MOMENT NOW
The music in this one was definitely the best.
Second best episode of the series :D
Hey there - do you have the audio files for these to download? Love all these Spider songs.
I would love a CD of the music from this episode. Easily the best of the series.
As a long islander myself I consider Tom Kelly as one of my 3 favorite long islanders along with, Leroy Grumman and Theodore Roosevelt....
mmmm just beautiful!
Does anyone have the notes for this or know the place to find them? I have been looking everywhere and tried to use programs to make it into notes but it's not good enough:( pls help
