Thanks very much. Such a fun song to play. The Choruses are pretty crazy, guitar-wise. Really hard to make out exactly what is going on, so just had to try to tap into the vibe of it. Thanks for the kind remark.
We'd love to. It's a matter of time. We have been concentrating on our first record of original material, which I'm pleased to say is finished and will be released on Bandcamp on October 21st. It will be available on all streaming services a couple of weeks later. Gert, the singer, lives in Belgium (I live in San Francisco, CA) and we actually met on RUclips a couple of years ago. We shared a love of the Smiths and started recording these covers for fun, but eventually we fell into writing original music, which is what we both prefer, so we decided to make album of original music. But we still plan to do more covers, and definitely more Smiths songs.
Thanks very much, Dan. I tend to think of that song as a quintessential Smiths song. It has always been a favorite of mine. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch. The guitar covers were fun, but I much prefer collaborating with Gert and having his vocals in there. Cheers!
This is a frighteningly good cover. The tones and ambience of the song perfectly captured. I’m old enough to have seen them live and been a huge Smiths fan most my adult life. This is an awesome cover. Hats off to you.
Thanks so much for the positive remarks, Ziggy (I hope I got your name right). I was lucky enough to see them on the Queen is Dead tour (in the states) as well. Really fun to try to work out these songs, and having Gert Van de Voorde along to give it a good go is so great! Thanks for taking the time to watch. Cheers!
Cheers! Thanks so much. I did my best on that tone/sound. I believe it was done on a Strat, but I do not own one, so just did the best I could with the Tele.
Haha, yeah ... the bass usually plays me, but I occasionally go for it. :) Been playing it more in the last year or so. That Mustang bass helps because it doesn't feel so big. But yeah, this is the first time I played bass on a video.
Hi Peter - fantastic work - great cover. I'm sometimes in touch with Jack Mitchell (Johnny's drummer). They're out on tour at the moment - but I'm going to send him this link to have a listen. Really impressive mate - keep it up 👍
Oh, thanks so much! I appreciate the kind remark. I had met Gert Van de Voorde in the fall of 2022. We shared a love of the Smiths and started collaborating on a number of there songs for fun. I'm really glad I made his acquaintance, and that technology allows us to work together remotely. Gert and I are now venturing into original songs, which I had hoped would happen in a natural way, but we do have more Smiths songs that we are working on. I think of it like 'doing puzzles'. It's challenging, but fun! Thanks as well for sharing the video. Cheers!
Peter, like all of your covers, they really grow on you the more you listen to them. I love your attention to detail and authenticity, no matter it's the guitar tone, notes played, phrasing or feel. It's mind-blowing to me. Gert's vocals make this cover stand out even more because of the unique personality of his voice and singing. I usually don't like Smiths covers where it sounds someone is trying too hard to sound exactly like Morrissey. I much prefer Gert's vocal style which hits the sweet spot. Btw, I can't get over how beautiful and perfect that coda (Asleep) fits here. I'd say that's a stroke of genius and worthy of Johnny Marr. Lastly, I don't understand YT algorhythm. Your channel deserves at least 20x the subscribers, it's criminally underrated. From your biggest fan. :)
Genghiz … thank you so much for the kind comments. It means a lot to me coming from someone I consider very astute when it comes to music, and someone I respect in general. I’m not sure what the majority feels about covers, but we did put a lot of work into it. It’s an absolute pleasure to collaborate with Gert on these songs. He really puts himself into it. He not only keeps up with my stamina in putting in an effort to do the best we can, but he also pushes me, which is something I get a lot out of. Thanks for watching.
It’s interesting listening to this cover. Because it’s years since I heard the original. I just didn’t recall the ‘rubber ring’ chorus. Sure enough, on the original track, he doesn’t actually sing, ‘rubber ring’ during the chorus. Slightly weird. But there it is.
Yeah, I have always thought it was/is just 'oh-oh's, but in looking at a music book years ago, it showed it as "oh ........ ruuber ring, rubber ring, rubber ring', etc., so I thought I was just not hearing it right. We decided to go with that. :) I was trying to upload a snip of what I am referring to, but I can't paste an image into this reply window.
👍 great

Awesome
Cheers! Thanks, Perry. Appreciate you taking a gander.
More stuff like this . . . please ! ❤

As I've got older, Rubber Ring has become one of my favourite Smiths songs. You guys absolutely nailed it! Class cover

Cheers!
Excellent cover Peter! So much attention to detail and every nuance captured! Wonderful!
Thank you so much, Johnny.
Awesome tune man!
And dont forget the songs which made you smile :)
Thanks much! Indeed ... never forgot those songs! :)
I like this cover. I think It has a different taste than the original and is cool.
Vocals are great of course.
Thank you, Keiichi. I/we appreciate you taking the time to watch the videos. I agree, Gert did a great job on the vocal(s).
I came here from your wonderful guitar cover, and this is even better. Well done to both of you
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch. The guitar covers were fun, but I much prefer collaborating with Gert and having his vocals in there. Cheers!

WOW!! That tele tone is so clean, I love it. As good as always, keep it up!
Cheers! Thanks so much. I did my best on that tone/sound. I believe it was done on a Strat, but I do not own one, so just did the best I could with the Tele.
Playing bass??!! 🔥🔥

Excellent cover once again.
Cheers! Thanks very much, indeed. Super fun one to do! :)

Muito bom! Excelente! Saudações do Brasil.
Thank you very much, Frederico!
Sooo great!!
Thanks so much. 🙏
It is just so hard to sing like Morrissey . . . 😮

You are correct.
Those are the lyrics.
He just doesn’t sing it.
I listened to the Louder than Bombs album version.
