1982:"I want a boy for my birthday"
1987:"I came to wish you an unhappy birthday"
2009:"It's not your birthday anymore".
It's like when an artist does heaps of songs with the word 'love' in it, don't you think?
@@Skiptondesigns I don't think so.
Whenever you look up a song on spotify or something, it is surprising how often the same words are used lol
@@tomimpala robert smith has countless songs with the same lyrics about something going into his mouth
I think this is the only thing done by the smiths I haven’t heard yet thanks
Same. Not sure how.
Alessandro Scuderi it only just got released
@@Harpdashian Yep i figured it out from the comments
Same.

This is a sign that my 2020 won't be so miserable now.
O meu vai hahaha
@@auroraboreal261 , What difference does it make?
You just haven't earn it yet baby.😁
The Heaven Know's...
thiago lima or maybe a little more miserable
Read about this in Johnny Marr’s autobiography, one of the first songs they performed together at their first venue
the ritz:)
Funfact: Morrissey arranged the gig aesthetic, Klaus Nomi’s “The Cold Song” which was an interpretation of a Henry Purcell piece was playing through the venue’s sound systems as the bang got on stage
A new Smiths song? The pleasure and the priviledge is mine.
Daniel Leonardo Cover of The Cookies
It's a Christmas miracle.
A perfect example of style Morriessy and Marr's impeccable style. They take this song and create the perfect mood for it
For anyone who can’t be bothered to listen to the whole song, the best bits are from 0:00 to 2:56
Thank you for your spot on point out of this memorizing tune...and the parts of the song that run between 2:57 and 2:58 are pretty "Spec"tacular also...😘😘😘
Only ever heard The Cookies version..very impressive.
A beautiful marriage of guitar and voice.
Rest in peace Andy Rourke. 💔For many years it was always a wish of mine that the Smiths would do a one-time, recording-only reunion and redo this song with the full band (including Craig Gannon) but alas that will only remain a fantasy. 🥀
After all these years a Smith's song I'd not heard?!?! I can't believe my ears.
It's not an original song it's a fover the original was sang by a girl gruop called The Cookies
@@AlejandroGonzalez-tf8lq It's a recording of The Smiths covering/playing a song which I hadn't heard *_them_* perform before. it's irrelevant whether it's a cover or not. Hence a Smiths' song I had not heard before. It's not really a difficult concept to understand.
@@Sr.ChilePepper oh stfu
@Alex Delgado Why? Is it because I’m pointing out something you may not have the necessary intelligence to understand?
Had I written "A song *_by_* The Smiths..." perhaps your comment would have added something, but since it's not what I wrote your interjection is pointless.
@@Sr.ChilePepper Button it Chile bean. Dont pretend to be intelligent
I would just like to say that this is a cover. The song was written and performed by a band called The Cookies.
It doesn't matters at all, the original song is nothing. This like a hundread times better. A hundread times deeper.
no se bruh whether or not the original song is bad or not doesn’t matter. It’s still somebody else’s song that somebody else wrote. Don’t get me wrong, I like the Smiths, but you still need to acknowledge that they didn’t write it. And btw the original song is great.
Manuel C saying that the cookies original version is “nothing” is a huge slap in the face to Johnny Marr and Morrissey ... they both adored this song
@@headmelteroninstagram5979 I would kill for a studio version of this. Or an acoustic version?!
@@mmmanutd Don't Say Nothing Bad About The Cookies 😉
I’m crying. Finally the *complete* version. After hearing 30 second snippets this is so satisfying
i want the smiths for my birthday
7 years I’ve waited to hear this in full. There were two very short clips here on RUclips. I remember recording myself singing this to a girl from Korea.
don't want a bracelet with golden charms
cause that won't fill my empty arms
And I thought no one would mention this great line
I've never liked covers, but Morrissey's voice and Marr Guitar together is just so alluring and pleasing to my ears.

Just as long as he gives his all
Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah
I want a boy to love
I want a boy who's gonna treat me right
(Yeah yeah yeah)
Hug me, kiss me, squeeze me day and night
I want a boy for my birthday

And keeps me in his heart
I want a boy to comfort me
And treat me tenderly

Only been waiting 37 years to hear the full version of this. So THANKS Mr Hibbert and THANKS Hipsterdisco.
It was worth the wait, and then some👍👍😲😲
I just can't stop watching this
Thank you, because I just realized that *I* *AM* *The* *One* hard Cookie to crumble...but still, I Want A Boy For My Birthday (that's what I've been dreaming of), as I will be Born Again when I see Him and get to beeeeeeee In The Way🙏💚👑😺😸😻👑💗🌻 I LOVE YOU STEPHEN PATRICK FRANCIS MORRISSEY, MY KING
❤
1:58 The way he sings that is wonderful.
Im confused, is he singing in the perspective of a female or is he talkn about gay stuff...?
Gabriel Ayerdis does it matter lmao
@@rydellgrimes no not really but being a morrissey fan Im just curious, nothing wrong with being gay or straight
Gabriel Ayerdis Probably singing from a girl’s perspective. To me, it’s about the music, so I don’t really care about that kind of thing
@@rydellgrimes lol, so you have no idea what "the boy with the thorn on the side" is about? Or "This Charming man"?
The genesis of the sound!
A lovely surprise and another addition to those very early very haunting recordings.
I had only ever heard OF this (Morrissey mentioned it in an interview). Thanks so much for uploading it!!
witch interview? could you give me the link please?
Same here
MY WISH CAME TRUE!!
Holy shit! I’ve been looking for a complete version of this track for a long time now. Very impressive that you dug it up. Seriously great job!
The source is in the synopsis. Dale Hibbert, the original 3rd Smith
@@TheSmithsUnofficial There's other Smiths members apart from Joyce, Morrissey, Marr and Rourke?
@@tomimpala Yes. For a very short time, in The Smiths infancy, Dale Hibbert was the bassist for The Smiths and if I remember correctly was an audio engineer at a recording studio, which is how the band recorded their first demos.
@@tomimpala Craig Gannon was also a Smith lol, albeit later down the line.
@ Decibelle Studio, Manchester
You can sort of make out parts of “I Wont Share You” in the embellishments Moz makes in the song
Riccardo Savo How sad is that? Their first song, about a longing for someone, sharing many qualities with their last, also about longing for someone. God, that hurts. I love it.
you do know it's a cover?
@@50shadesofgandalfthegrey57 Sadly, Moz is still singing the same song to this day. And if we don't believe him now, will we ever believe him?
Takes me there. So emotional. This is a masterpiece
I didn't know this existed...whether it be a cover or not, I'm grateful...bleddy marvellous!
I've waited about 20 years to hear this - thank you :) All i need now is for 'A matter of opinion' to be released and I can die a happy man..
MooseTV what's 'a matter of opinion' song, have any info.
Its a very early, Unreleased, abandoned Smiths track. Mike Joyce captured it on cassette tape during a rehearsal session at 'Crazy Face'
@@TheSmithsUnofficial Crazy Face, you mean the studio which is now Johnny Marr's, for around 7 years for his solo stuff?
Wow so light and beautiful
This demo is before andy rouke joins in the bass and before mike joyce joins in the drums
‘This demo is before Andy Rourke joined on bass, and Mike Joyce on drums’ - correct way to write it in English Marcelo 👍🏻
@@swirlingfudge thank you boy
Im learning english since my chilhood :)
I never actually wanted more a boy for my birthday, like since listening to this song!!!
This is such a nice early start to their career. So glad that The Smiths existed.
Yay always a joy to hear new Smiths tracks.
It’s a cover of a song by The Cookies
I've heard the clip of this song and I wanted more. Thanks for putting it on youtube.
OH MY GOD I JUST DISCOVERED SOMETHING AMAZING!! At 1:40 You can hear a morrisey arrangement used on I won't share you! Especifically at 1:22.
It's not so quite equall but its similar
omg I hear it so clearly at 1:40. very cool observation
2:22 too
Seems like everything came full circle. This was the first song the smiths covered and I won’t share you was on their last album.
@@Indieguitarist2007 not only that but it was the last song on their last album

Absolutely wow!!! New Smiths song in 2020, unbelievable. Thank you marr, thank you mose!!!
Thank you so much for posting this!
❤ thank you Mr. Hibbert
Following Johnny Marr's recent explanation of his first guitar on "The Pedal Show". I think that the "phaser" sound we're hearing is actually a built-in effect on his 1977 Gretsch 7680 Super Axe (his first guitar used in The Smiths).
The shots are beautiful
Artistic
If only recordings of the Ritz show and the photos of Moz, Johnny & Dale would one day appear!
Dale told me that the promo images of himself, Johnny & Morrissey were disappeared. There is a recording of the Ritz show out there though!
I have been dreaming of a full version of this for so long, thank you
That’s the present that I need the most......
Incredible find and upload. Thank you very much!

I never heard this before..TY👍
Wow! Enough said!
There's an interview questioning Morrissey's sexuality in which he said, "I'm humansexual."
But *is he more gay than straight?* (considering _This Charming Man, Handsome Devil.._ )
I mean, liking both yet preferring one to a greater extent.
This made my year!

Vaya sorpresa! Gracias por compartir.
That was his emotion on first falling for marr
cali bunnin poet don’t even go there man they’re friends.I hate it when people make it awkward because a guy happens to be gay and in a good friendship with a man. I know this wasn’t your intention it was just a joke but I feel like I gotta speak my mind a lil bit
@@IdontKnow-oo2dp Morrissey isn't actually gay though. He has spoken on the subject, sometimes bitterly, sometimes romantically. He even said he was literally sat in a bedroom or walking the streets alone for years, touting that he was this amazing singer and then one day marr turned up looking for this singer and to paraphrase Morrissey that was the point he was saved from eternal loneliness.
@@calibunninpoet7329 Morrissey is gay, though. He was in a long term relationship with a man and had an affair with an italian guy according to his autobiography.

Love that he's adjusting his idle on the fly, I used to do this on my Ninja 250.
Has anyone ever heard A Matter Of Opinion - the Holy Grail of "lost" Smiths earliest recordings? I followed the band from start to finish, but have never heard it. I believe it exists on an old cassette that went for an astronomical price when auctioned.
Con ustedes, una de las primeras canciones que los Smiths tomaron en vivo ... 💜
Can you believe it
Morrissey eternas lembranças Olinda Brasil!!
wow...that was unexpected and personally new... wow. I didn't think that was possible. Turns out, the boy MOZ got had a thorn in his side.
My birthday is tomorrow, as I hum this tune......
Una bella sorpresa 💓
Omg..found the original 10sec clip in 2001..finally its complete..thank you
When in the world did this come out i never heard this song i absolutely love it though
It was the first song they recorded but it was never released
hERMOSA Cancion y Hermosa ChIQUIGUAPA ¡¡
Wow! I had no idea that this existed, the melody is striking. Being crca1982 I see why it was not released. There was a Morrissey quote in NME in 1983 "Our next single is about to emerge, its called "Father And Son" and it will change your life"- It never materialized. I now believe that song was "How soon is now?" even though the song was a B side, but that is purely an assumption. If you can confirm or correct please do.
I also want one Morrissey 🥲
Figures! A theme song for lonely homo's.
Wow! Xxxxxxxxx
