Awesome, I recommend The Ma Pi Leng Pass in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang offers spectacular landscapes to the daring and adventurous. Ma Pi Leng is often described as one of the four most dangerous passes in Vietnam. Soaring over the pass is a mountain 2,000 meters high along whose side is the Hanh Phuc Road connecting Ha Giang Town, Dong Van District and Meo Vac District in Ha Giang Province. Although the pass is dangerous and scary, you will be rewarded with this lovely view of the turquoise Nho Que River below
Great video, love seeing how the regular hard working people live , great people and beautiful country, continue with your travels and be safe brother.
This must be a spell cast by his hair. That is why he got this hairstyle before going to Vietnam. He knows they can’t resist his blonde half long hair as it reminds them of noodles.
Harald, The delectable drink you “enjoyed” was Rice Wine”. They call it wine but as you so abruptly discovered it is anything but wine. It is a very powerful “home brew” common in the rice field regions of both the northern and southern areas of Vietnam. My reaction the first time I was invited to toast was very similar to yours. To my misfortune I wasn’t in the position to refuse additional and numerous toast with my host. He happened to be the village chief of Dinh Quan a southern village along the road designated as QL 20 that winds from Binh Hoa through the Central Highlands. Between the rice wine toasts I was treated to a Vietnamese delicacy which turned out to be dried shrimp. Very salty and quite sharp in smell. Needless to say by the time I was able to extricate myself from the home of my host without insulting him and was barely able to walk let alone drive. As you have probably discovered there are very few creatures the Vietnamese don’t consider edible food. The blood in the pan most likely came from the animal that was butchered and its parts in the pan beside the blood. The blood is used as a beverage as well as used for seasoning in some dishes. No criticism is meant concerning the diet of the Vietnamese but some Western palates cannot tolerate some selections. I personally never questioned what was put before me when I lived in the villages and hamlets. I ate as much as I could and expressed much gratitude for the generosity of the people as feeding me at that time meant a sacrifice on their part. I strived to return the favors as much as I was able.
Dale, I would feel the same way and choke down whatever they had to offer, with a Big smile....Gettin jacked up would be a whole different game.... Get a blankie and say good night!? Hope you wake up the next day????
Chris Clark, I assume this particular version of Rice Wine was tinted in some way either in the particular ingredients added during the fermentation process or, perhaps possibly, the addition of blood, especially since the presence of animal blood was quite evident in this particular household. The regions are different in regards to diet among the Vietnamese sometimes even from village to village in the same area. For instance, the rice wine served to me by the Village Chief was crystal clear and the bottle contained a larva like worm floating near the bottom. Even the worm has traditional significant. There is only one worm per bottle and that worm is eventually got to end up in one of the small serving glasses. Tradition claims the one whose glass happened to get the worm would enjoy good fortune in the days to come. Now I lived for quite some time with the hill people called Montagnards. These people are a different race than the Vietnamese and live in the mountainous regions. The rice wine these people produced was just as potent but sometimes tinted red from the blood of a ritually sacrificed water buffalo but most times tinted green with plant matter. Now realize my Vietnam experience was fifty years ago and Vietnam has become considerably modernized in recent years and some elements of custom have no doubt changed, especially in the urban areas but certain traditions have existed for thousands of years among the Anamite/Vietnamese culture.
Cobia 1, Indeed, after that incident with the Dinh Quan Village Chief I truly wondered if I would survive the night. As for the food, I never once became ill after consuming a meal provided for me by the Vietnamese people. However, I did on occasion suffer intestinal distress after drinking water that was not properly purified. I always had purification tablets to use to take care of that but sometimes in a village or hamlet setting it wasn’t possible to use them without offending my hosts. That was rare though as most often some type of alcoholic beverage was available, usually a true wine or local beer.
Please make as many videos as possible while you are in Vietnam. Because you are my inspiration, my motivation to learn English Love you. My handsome man
