You seem to have confused "ancestors" with "descendants" in your video.
Drew Almy he ain’t no raven claw loool
And also said No-Maj as No-Mag. Unless he just means non-magic.
In Africa, Wizards and Witches don't use wands. J.K. Rowling wrote about it on Pottermore :
"The wand is a European invention, and while African witches and wizards have adopted it as a useful tool in the last century, many spells are cast simply by pointing the finger or through hand gestures." "Much (some would say all) magic originated in Africa, and Uagadou graduates are especially well versed in Astronomy, Alchemy and Self-Transfiguration."
Victor Bordier well we’ll we seem to have a Hermione Granger JR

I'm just wondering why there are no staves just wands and they still call them wizards. Other than Moody no one else has a staff and even Moody use a wand the majority of the time. In the old days wizards have staves and only witches use wands and brooms. Even sorceress upgrades to staves. Yet witches and wizards now days run around with plastic wands. Also wizards in the old days can cast spells with words and motions. Some are powerful enough to simply think and it happens. They harness the magic and powers of their surroundings and use it channeling it though their body. Now days if the wizards lose their wands they're as useless as a sundial in the shade. I'm not hating, I'm just saying they should be able to do more and be trained more in proper magic and protection.
Before Ilvermorny was founded, the native magicians of north-america where very good with potion's brewing and astronomy. The more skilled ones (very few) could cast magic using their hands. The wands where introduced by Britain wizards after 1620, when Isolt's husband (a muggle, but very skilled in wood-carving) created Chadwick's wand, the first wand made in north-america.
As for the change from a staff to a wand it's pretty easy to figure out why it happened. Rowling's Wizarding World has rules, one of the most importants being the International Statute of Secrecy, a set of rules that prohibit anything too flashy to be noticed by muggles (yeah, Mr. Weasley's car and Sirius' motorcycle were illegal). In that case a wand is way better at conceiling than a staff (don't get me wrong, I really like staves, they're pretty flashy and cool). Also, a 2 meters (7 feet) tall staff it's pretty hard to swing instead of a wand.
And, by the way, Slytherin here.
@@touxiong519you are correct. however we only see magic taught in a european system... in american wizarding schools they learn some wandless magic and also in africa they learn much wandless and wordless magic. wand magic is more powerful and concentrated than what you can do with just your hands but it is good to learn how to utilize both
"In the future they can have an ancestor who will possess magical abilities" Need to edit that sentence XD You can't have an ancestor in the future. Unless you're partaking in some heavy time travel.
He did. And we can overlook that, we undesrtood what he meant. Making videos aint easy, my friend has a RUclips channel and i knw they do retakes. The Bloopers are hilarious.
floooooooooooooooood Thanks Ravenclaw ;)
There isn't only one way to use 'future' you know.
Al B Do explain.
I thought he said ''in the future, their descendants''
0:56 did he really just say "and in the future can have an ancestor"? Isn't it supposed to be descendant?
Yep there were several grammatical misspeaks in the beginning.
Though it's unclear whether or not that actually is the case or just muggles can have wizard babies
JKR made the same mistake with Tom Riddle claiming he was the last remaining ancestor of Salazar Slytherin in the second book. It was corrected in later editions.
3:20 well apparently Hogwarts changed name to Harvard. :D
+Ephoros it didn't
1:06
First problem: Mudblood refers to muggleborn witches and wizards. Not to magical beings who are descended from squibs.
Ancestors lived before you. I think you mean "descendants."
your Son is your descendants, like your grandson butto your grandson his Father is his Ancestor.
@@horstnasenblut8364 Punctuation my friend. lol This was hard to understand. Even though I know what an ancestor is.
So a wand isn't necessary.. yet the most repeated spell in the books *Expelliarmus*

Thanks for clarifying the non-verbal and wandless magic. It’s very interesting to see what wizards can do with or without wands or words.👍👍😸

Fellow Ravenclaw!!
After watching a lot of CinemaSins and questioning along about the rules of requiring wands and verbal action to use magic, it's finally sufficiently answered here! Thank you!
Your welcome! I was wondering the same thing for the longest time. Thanks for watching!
I think they mentioned at some point that brooms don't really have anything magical about them, it's more about tradition to fly on brooms. I think one of the books says some wizards prefer things like carpets (or bikes, or cars!)
this video needs to fall under Educational.
The public needs to know this.
Thank you! I feel like this is such a simple idea people overlook, but I've wondered it for a very long time. Thanks for watching!
"In the future, can have an ancestor!" I think you mean a descedent! An Ancestor is one who came loooong, before you.
And I'm Hufflepuff! :D
I caught that too ;)
Although It isn't typically used this way, technically even parents are your Ancestors.
RoflSirOfTheLawl
Oh I know that, but even Parents have lived many years before you!
Although ancestors are typically descendents that came before your grandparents, there's no actual rule saying that they have to be.

I’d Hate to be The Lockhart of Witches,he Sucks at Magic,I Mean he Grabbed Ron’s Wand by Accident,&,Gave Himself Amnesia
SLYTHERIN!!!
My best guess as to why wizards need wands to do magic is because the wands channel the wizards magical energy / power and turn it into reality as for the spells it to help focus the wizards thoughts and make it a reality but when a wizard / witch becomes experienced enough they don't have to say the spell they just do it.

I loved the Scene where Voldemord breathes fire, easily one of my favourite moments from the movies.
I would say I'm a ravenclaw, but Pottermore suggested I'd be a Slytherin.
Just because I have a Pet Snake I bet...
I'm just wondering, it seems to me that there is some difference of opinion in the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Some believe all magical persons can trace their heritage to a magical ancestral heritage (pure bloods), while others think that the gene for magic can occur spontaneously among muggles. I don't think it's been resolved that the magical gene is always inherited. It appears to me that some wizards believe that the magical gene is a mutation that can and does just happen, magicians aren't a separate race. Also Squibs are different than muggles in that they can see magical creautures that muggles can't. Again unclear why this happens, but with fantastic beasts we learn that mages that repress their magic come to a sticky end, so squibs aren't mages either. Just some thoughts... Gryffendor here...
This was so awesome, I've never seen a video that so cleanly breaks everything down like that. Also, my entire family's Ravenclaw, though I feel like I have some Hufflepuff in me as well.
See I'm not the hugest Harry Potter fan so I just laid it out like how I researched it because I think from just watching the movies there are some parts that just didn't add up for me. I'm glad you like the layout. Thanks for watching!
Your explanation of magical descendants was incorrect. Any couple of 2 (Pure-blood), 1 (Half-blood), or No (Mud-blood) magical parents can produce magical, partially (squib), or non-magical children. It's really like one big random lottery. A squib is essentially a wizard/witch whose powers are "on the spectrum" sort of speak. They can sense magic, and some who practice manage to get mediocre but very un-effective results (see Mr. Filch in Chamber of Secrets for reference). Also, a mud-blood is simply a wizard/witch without magical parents with no connection to squibs. For research, don't go to fansites. Those are often tainted with fans who distort the stories to suit them. Find pages from the books and read them yourself.
That's literally what he said
John Rose NNEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRDDD
I'm glad someone appreciates HP as much as me
but muggle's can only have wizard/witch children if they had a squib as their ancestor so it's not like it can surface at any time in any family, only people with wizard ancestors can ever hope to use magic it's just that their magic genes could be sealed for many generations that's how muggle-born wizards come to be

Hey I'm from Gryffindor. One big thing you missed is that magic comes from within. It is this emotional component the renders the incantation and wand simply tools. For example you can't cast dark magic unless you truly hate the tsrget. The stronger the spell the stronger the emotion.
With all the sorting tests for a Hogwarts house, I've gotten Gryffindor. But for Ilvermorny I have gotten all the houses, besides "Thunderbird".
So the ones I've been sorted into are, "Horned Serpent", "Wampus" and "Pukwudgie".
Though like in Hogwarts, if you could fit into more than one house, you get to choose which one u want... like Harry kind of did (though if i'm not wrong, him also fitting into Slytherin was because of that part of "He whom shall not be named" inside of him) but it's SO HARD idk which Ilvermorny House I wanna choose yet!?
Hi:) this is really cool, I never thought that muggleborns were descendants of squibs. Oh and I'm a ravenclaw for life!
This was really interesting, I was wondering why they sometimes need wands, then don't. Why in the beggining they say the incantation and in the end they don't. Now it's all clear. Thank you :)
I'm glad it cleared up for you! These were all questions I had after watching all of the movies. Thanks for watching!
You did a great job - loved the description of the different kinds of magic - it's videos like yours that just enhance the Magical World - please keep making more videos!

@wotsovideos can you do a video on HOW the fairy god mothers got their powers?
Thank you so much for not doing 20min long videos just to say this like most other youtubers. Finally someone who understands we don't need to know the entire history of universe in order to understand how magic works in HP.
I quite enjoyed your video, as I have enjoyed all of them! Your narrative style is applaudable and your content is always interesting.
This Slytherin grants +10 points to Ravenclaw!
im curious how harry uses expaliarmus or however you spell it and is able to compete with voldemorts avada kedavara beam of death on 2 occasions?
I liked the video. I hope you do more Harry Potter videos in the future. As for what House I'm in, Slytherin all the way.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback from this video so I think I will continue them. Thanks for watching!
Ancestor are those who came before you in your family tree. (Parents, Grand Parents, Great Grand Parents, etc). Descendants are those who come after you in your family tree. (Children, Grand Children, Great Grand Children, etc). Why is this mistake so common?
"and in the future have an ancestor" 0:55
Great Video, this was very informative.
What makes a wizard naturally powerful?
As said in the video there are some wizards who show more power in magic at a young age despite being in the muggle society thus recieving no training?
Genetics? Is your magic power just connected to your intelligence? Or is there some other factor?
I have no clue about that. I feel like there is a theory somewhere in there if I analyzed who the most powerful wizards were and their trends. Thanks for watching!
If I were to write the mechanics of being a powerful mage, I'd have it connect to two things, mainly. Firstly, the person's state of mind. A mage usure of themselves, who doesn't fully commit to the spell they cast cannot cast it's full potential. Second, the time and effort put into achieving power. Simply, if you strech out for it, you will reach it, maybe quicker and maybe slower than others, but you will.
I'm a fan of worlds where magic and powers don't depend on genes or some other pre-decided reason, making some wizards more powerful than others just because they're born like that.
Moosehound
So someone who shows 'talent' at a young age with no training has that power because of determination?
I can get behind that.

I love this video so much! Here's my question, how do broomsticks work and how does one type of broomstick differ from another in terms of speed, quality and structure? For example, why is the nimbus 2000 not as good as the firebolt? And how come when a young which or wizard puts a hand over a broomstick and says up, some do not experience their broomstick instantly jumping into their hands? Oh and lastly, how are racing brooms different from ordinary brooms? And can you actually control how fast you fly? I mean I know that Harry can accelerate if he wants to, but does a broom actually go at a standard speed and no slower? Hope you answer these questions :) and by the way I am a hard-core fan of Harry Potter and I still wonder these things and I'm a Hufflepuff
I think these are great questions. I am going to look into this for sure. Thanks for watching!

I'm a Ravenclaw. Pursuing knowledge is the best.
Broomsticks are explained to just be wood with certain charms on them. The quality of these charms and the design of the broomstick is what greatly seperates brooms. The "up" part must be, that it is a form of magic they're using, so some people will be less efficient with the use of this spell/magic. The acceleration part I do not know, I guess it's just how good the charms are that controls speed.
Great job! I'm a Ravenclaw and a Thunderbird.

I've read all books and throughout my reading and even to this day I still can't find an answer to my question so maybe one of you can answer my question, does magic somehow "drains" a user in Harry Potter is there some form of mana or life energy used when utilizing magic? or not and wizards and witches can spam spells infinitely?
sorry but around 1:00 you said that in the future squibs can have ancestors that will lead to"mud bloods" but wouldn't it be descendants?

Many of the wizards at the Magical school in Ghana and the Native American magic users don't use wands, which I thought was pretty cool. The Wizards from the School in Ghana actually shook up many of the elder wizards from other schools because they could perform advance animagi magic at a very young age, who claimed they were breaching magic secrecy and part of their defense wsa the fact that they perform spells without wands. Go figure..
The American school also primarily teaches windlass magic. In old lore it is stated that wands were created and utilized by European witches and wizards and they are still some of the only ones that do use them. Outside of Europe or UK it is much more Rae to encounter wands since most places use other means or no wand at all. But the majority of books and the movies take place in Europe so we don't get to see it
The Philippines is full of wizards that uses the dark arts but they utilize to counter the same wizards that uses the dark arts so recklessly that it goes against the the law of secrecy.
Thank you this explains a lot my main thought was why do some say words with spells and some don't and this answered it... Skilllll
Liked this video but when it comes to the 7 types of spells surely "light creation spells" should really just be creation spells. You can also create fire with incendio and water with aguamenti

So are spells given ranks on difficult to perform then? Does the difficulty of the spell scale with the power of it? Also, are there limits to a number of spells they can cast over a period of time, or do can they infinitely cast spells?

If no one's noticed this already - 0:57 "and in the future can have an ancestor"... in the FUTURE. I think you might just mean DESCENDANT. Ancestors would be their parents or great-great-great-great aunts. Descendants would be their children or their niece's nephew's son's niece's daughter (I think you get the idea). It's not such a biggie, but my pedantic mind would be appeased if you could add a tag to acknowledge this mistake.

Waaay too dumbed down. You need to think more about who your audience is
I didn't know most of this information before I made the video. I made it for anyone who was interested in this topic. Thanks for watching.
sad fact is, the reason everyone stopped needing to use spell names is because of a new director who felt he was too good for silly magic movies. notice how in the later movies, they got rid of any Quiditch scenes n had everyone wearing muggle clothes? fucking jeans n sweaters, when it was all robes n hats at first. Whoever took over clearly thought magic was stupid n had no respect for the books. we're just lucky the actors were good enough to compensate for a shitty director
The last four were directed by David Yates. He came back for Fantastic Beasts, but this time JK herself is in charge of the script, so he's gonna get whipped into shape if he tries his silly stuff again.
I looked into the history of the directors in charge of the movies, n while the first 2 were done by a director with a long history of great fantasy movies, the next 3 directors had absolutely no experience making fantasy movies and only 1 was even a movie I knew (the man in the iron mask)
N the latest director! Absolutely no experience in big movies! just straight to tv movies n a few episodes of THE BILL! a freaking British Cop Drama show
No idea how the fuck any of these idiots got the role of a life time, but it's obvious they didn't know wtf they were doing, n the movies only did well in spite of them, not because of them
To be fair, I think from a cinematographic point of view, the director of PoA did an amazingly fantastic job.
The actual real reason they stopped using the incantations in the movie is because they're long, hard and unnecessary to do. Spells have to be casted constantly and repeatedly without fail, not only do the actor's have to move their wands around and pretend something is happening, they also have to accurately pronounce the latin incantations (when non verbal and wandless magic exists). You say David Yates didn't care about the books, but he made the actor's go through lessons on wand movement just so that they could be accurate and presentable. Jo herself said that wizards and witches actually do wear muggle clothes. They wear pajamas, undergarments, jumpers etc. Get your facts straight.
Watch your language
