    The reason lightning mcqueen didnt upgrade himself or his engine, is because the type of racing lightning partakes in is stock car racing, meaning if he upgraded his engine or added performance parts he's no longer stock and therefore could not participate in the races.

    TBH, the only way for Jackson Storm to be humbled is for him to have a similar experience to Lightning's from the 1st movie. Maybe have his career take a downturn after a false accusation-based scandal, that way, while Lightning, Sally and Mater look into the matter on the pleas of Cruz, she invites Jackson to stay at Radiator Springs for a while till the backlash dies down. There, he loses the attitude, starts making friends and embracing some old ways, maybe even gets himself a repaint. Rather than the town just teaching him, however, Storm also shows his best side by helping the town modernize a bit.

    As an engineer I can tell you this: the biggest problem with upgrading old cars is compromise with their identity. For example lets take the Golf GTI, it was one of the first compact sportscars ever manufactured. To keep up with modern day compact cars u could swap Engines and stuff... but the space is limited. You could just grow the frame by changing the chassis and body, but by doing that it will loose its identity, that can't be called a Golf anymore. This happened to many cars that came from tuning lines and not from the Manufacturers themselves. Shelby made some models where they remade the body and the car had a new Identity. Mercedes AMG borders that philosophy as well.

    The thing that really bothers me is that Strip Weathers and Chick Hicks, both older models compared to McQueen, were still able to keep up and Strip himself was also a very smart racer. He knew how to beat the younger models with timely pit stops and optimal driving. I don't see any reason why Lightning couldn't have done that, too. Maybe the difference between him and the new gen was too great but honestly, even if he couldn't be upgraded fully to a brand new model, he was still fast enough to keep up with some of the new gens. And with how they built up his arc for one final climactic race against Storm, it made the ending ridiculously disappointing. Rather than go out on a high, he literally just gave up. In the first film, Strip Weathers was still shown to be capable of winning, even if Lightning could have beat him in the end. In the third film, Lightning is shown to be outright obsolete. It's not so much the fact that Lightning needs to step down that bothers me. It's how they handled it. Cruz looks like the same model as Lightning. How could she possibly keep up with the new gen, not to mention beat a champion in her very first race? The nail in the coffin was her getting Doc's number instead of Lightning making her 95 while he became 51. Just all around a very disappointing movie.

    Something unique about Storm's Generation (Generation 6) is that it was unlike any other change between generations in Piston Cup history. With all the others, the older racers were slowly replaced over the course of several years, whereas with Gen 6, it all happened in 2 seasons.
    With Gen 1 (Doc's Generation), it started in 1949, and most racers from then were racing until the 60s, but then Gen 2 came in in the early 60s and by the 70s, there's only 1 or 2 Gen 1 cars left. Then, when Gen 3 entered in the early to mid 70s, Gen 2 started getting slower, and the only one able to keep up and still be a champion was Strip Weathers. Then Gen 4 entered in the 90s, but they didn't start winning Piston Cups until 2000. Then Lightning McQueen was the first racer for Gen 5, entering in 2005, and from then, Gen 5 cars were appearing every year, like Cal Weathers, Brick Yardley, and Bobby Swift. 2015 was the only year to have all Gen 5 cars as Jackson Storm entered in 2016, and interest in Next-Gen racers rose. They were designed to be the perfect racers, and that's why they were entering every race. As Natalie Certain said, "Every week, we've seen veteran racers either retire, like Cal Weathers tonight, or fired to make room for these younger, faster racers."

    I think it’s important to acknowledge the parallels to actual racing, not only NASCAR but things like F1 and Indy also. Generations of racers come and go, quick on their day, but when the new blood comes in and their age starts to show, eventually they have to hang it up because the sport outgrows them regardless of their legendary status. Motorsports always evolve also. NASCAR today sure isn’t the same as it was two decades ago nor F1 was the same then as it is now.
    New technology and ideas also play a role. When Michael Schumacher came into F1, he brought with him a training regimen that wasn’t very practiced by the elder racers of his time. In the 50s, anyone could race. But by the 90s and now the 2000s, you have to be in peak shape to endure the conditions and forces that comes with racing.
    Age plays a role too but drivers like Fernando Alonso show that fitness and the will to keep going is key even when you keep racing past your “prime” (42 years old in a sport averaged by 20-30 year old racers).

      Yeah I was about to say, optimization killed the fun people had watching NASCAR.
      Two Examples;
      Michigan Speedway in 2005 (just before Cars) could use 4 racing lines to win the race and it was drivers choice.
      Today, only the high and low side are used.
      Daytona and Talladega are the next one.
      You used to see 3 and 4 wide racing at almost any point in the race for almost the entire thing.
      Now it’s almost entirely single file racing for almost the entire thing, and at most it’s side by side racing. The “big one” (the big wreck that occurs in the race) almost never happens.
      Not to mention the playoff rules are stupid.
      And because optimization has caused less yellow flags, NASCAR had to implant a rule to have “in race yellow flag” stoppages. It’s actually really sad.
      Optimization makes sports in racing very boring.
      F1 is an exception because they are racing on road courses on open wheels, but without quality competition and balanced playing field, Mercedes and Redbull have dominated the past Decade and a Half.

    It seems like the "Assembly Line" might be the equivalent of a "Birthing Unit" at a hospital. So think of it as like "Car Healthcare". This also lends itself to both the idea of mechanical repair and the limitation of parts. There's a reason there are waiting lists for organ replacements, it's because there are a limited number of organs that are donated per year. Likewise, there may be limited numbers of parts that can be used for repair.

    There's an old classically animated cartoon (I think it was produced in the 60's or 70's - and I saw it on Cartoon Network back the late 90's) that is aesthetically the same style as cars (windshield are eyes, etc.).
    Quick synopsis:
    It was about a family of cars with the Dad encouraging his son to follow in his footsteps (or would that be tire tracks) and become a livery cab/taxi. The kid has other aspirations (he wants to become a race-car and compete in the local derby) and get's tricked out as a hot rod - new body, new engine - the whole nine.
    He's punished for it and despondent tries to run away from home. The dad tries to chase him but the son is too fast. The dad struggling to keep up overheats and ends up stuck at an intersection with an oncoming train. The kid circles back and helps his dad off the tracks but gets hit instead. Thankfully the kid recovers and he and his family reconcile - he adopts his family profession and reverts his body back to that of a taxi...but he keeps the supped up engine.
    When Pixar's Cars was released the style was instantly recognizable. So assuming it follows the lore established by that cartoon, then reproduction is possible...just don't ask me the mechanics of it.

McQueen was at the veteran stage in Cars 3

    I honestly think this works, even though the Cars movies were never intended to have any logic behind them lol. Cars must stay in their adult frame, but they can modify that frame to fit certain jobs, it just cannot change shape much, or have newer/incompatible technology added. Like you said, Mator has had every different look and car parts added, in the book, but his main body shape never changed(Even when he got the shapeshifting thing in Cars 2 but that was just holograms).
    Closest we got was the American Spy, being able to change himself from the blue sports car(I don’t know cars, so he may not have been one) into looking like a lemon car, but its clear he had a shell climb over his body to change how it looked on the outside(as his transformations was different to Finns and Mators). Another is Dusty Crophopper had his whole body overhauled, twice, but his frame stayed the same.
    He had his wings traded out for better ones, he got landing gear that could be raised and lowered, his propellor changed, he had his wings swapped again, he had a water/retardant tank added on, he had pontoons added, which shifted his landing gear. But his main body shape never changed. Even Harvey and Winnie(the two RVs from Planes Fire and Rescue) talk about different jobs they had when they were younger. Harvey was a taco truck before he was an RV, and Winnie mentions being half a ton lighter when she and Harvey met.

    Well it's just like real life motorsport - pilots of each generation become more and more precise, mastering and improving on techniques that the generation before them discovered. Storm took McQueen philosophy of "i am speed" and improved upon it with the latest that was on the market for his generation. Irl we had that same thing happening even in F1. There was a time when the older drivers refused to train in a simulator, because they didn't believe it was of any use. Nowdays we know they all spend A TON of time there and in sim-racing to keep their skills sharp. But back to the movie - i think they got too hung on the plot of Lightning becoming the master than the racer himself. I am sure if he spent time in the simulator and perfected his driving, he would've been a good competition to Storm. We see this in the technology center where the new recruitments were training. They were on the treadmills doing 186mph, while we saw multiple times Lightning had no trouble going 194mph. He has the speed to rival the new generation, he simply lacked the technique and focus needed to use it on the track. His driving was enough for the old generation where he was told he had talent is spades, but with the new generation, raw talent would only get him this far. Yes, the technology plaid some role into that, but even if Lightning had upgraded himself with a more powerful engine and some aero, he lacked the experience of racing with that kind of gear. There is always a learning curve and he simply was behind the new generation.

    • @m.c.martin
      @m.c.martin 15 дней назад

      The difference was Lightening was trying to go as fast as he can on the simulators.
      Jackson Storm was simply working out, practicing technique, and gaining knowledge of the strategy to use.
      Like how athletes would approach working out. Doing reps makes you faster* and stronger over time.
      Even with how the simulator was used, Jackson was using it more effectively.

      @QuantumS1ngularity 15 дней назад

      @@m.c.martin That's what i'm saying. The real problem wasn't the lack of speed or power, it was the lack of razor-sharp technique on Lightning's behalf. His raw speed is what won him the races thus far. But this was as far as raw speed was going to take him. If he applied everything he taught Ramirez on the track himself, like following the slipstream, not overthinking and so on, he could've won easily.

We even see this in the first one, where Lightning and Chick Hick, despite both being obviously younger and faster, they were rarely able to pass and couldn't get the King out of their way. Smokey says that Doc Hudson humiliated new generations of cars through his experience. Why wasn't McQueen treated that way in Cars 3? Why is such a great racer who is implied to have broken the King and Doc's records, not like them? Why wasn't his experience enough to keep him ahead like King and Doc? Reminds me of upgrading PCs. They eventually cannot be upgraded anymore better because the newer parts are just not compatible for older hardware.

    Video: why couldn’t lightning beat storm? Well not because he was too old, it was because his model was outdated and upgrades today weren’t compatible (I.e. he was too old) also throw in a couple useless cars and plane’s references.
    There I explained the video now you can save 12 minutes of your life.

    There’s gonna be that moment in life where you just aren’t the best anymore and gotta know when it’s time to let the new group come along. Like McQueen’s still good, but the new cars are running the game now.

    In "Cars 3," Lightning McQueen couldn't beat Jackson Storm initially because Storm represented the next generation of racing, equipped with cutting-edge technology and a sleek design that gave him a significant speed advantage. McQueen, while talented and experienced, was struggling to keep up with Storm's speed and agility.
    Additionally, McQueen was facing doubts and insecurities about his own abilities as he aged and saw newer, faster cars like Storm dominating the racing scene. It wasn't until McQueen embraced new training methods, learned from other racers, and tapped into his own strengths and experience that he was able to compete with Storm on equal footing.
    So, it wasn't just about raw speed but also about adapting to change, overcoming self-doubt, and finding new ways to compete effectively in a rapidly evolving racing world.

    If they repaired the frame parts or strengthened the rigity of Lightning McQueen's old body, he would've performed tons better, with thicker tubing to keep the car stable at high speeds (thats the platform those series or typically Menards series racecars were built on, tube frame) he might have some understeer, but he would've won many races including against Jackson Storm, because even though cars got more efficient at getting up to speed their horsepower got lessened, but I think its due to the fact that lightning's fans would've cheered him on, as they did with the first movie. And sometimes all someone needs to win in life is someone to support them and make them feel wanted, theyre cars but theyre still living beings with real emotions as seen most with 1 and 3

    If u didn’t here in cars 3 he can have a upgrade for every thing including his body but it stays the same with better angles for extension for the body but he said he’ll do it like he always have he’s old form but he does realise he could upgrade but he doesn’t wanna because he wants to prove everyone that he can do it with no fancy technology hence why lighting McQueen was asking Cruz to do things outside he wants to prove the people they don’t need technology to win on the one hand it’s been proven that lighting mc queen shattered storms record in cars 4 storm can reach 220 McQueen can reach 310 and Cruz can reach 260 but sadly it’s been cancelled so idk what their planing to do next what do u think about this reply for your thoughts

    Why do cars need to eat?
    can they drink anything else?
    can a car age?
    whats insides a car like?

    McQueen probably could upgrade and add performance parts to his chassis but you could say that in the case of racecars, which are like athletes, that upgrading yourself is a form of using steroids which is prohibited in a competitive environment.

    I don't see why McQueen couldn't get an engine or aerodynamic or any upgrade that could make him faster, for example, in real life racing teams every year find areas that are in need of an upgrade because new technology and studies have been released that lead to improvements in races. So those racing teams could improve their already hired racers because that is the point of the sport whether the participants be "stock" or not
