Why couldn’t Lightning McQueen beat Jackson Storm? I mean I understand that he was getting older, but Lightning was one of the greatest race cars of all time! How is it possible that the winner of seven Piston Cups couldn’t figure out a way to best him? Like if it truly was his aging technology that was holding him back, why didn’t he get some upgrades for himself? I mean Lightning went through a devastating crash! Wouldn’t that have been a perfect time to rebuild him into a next gen racer? What I want to finally understand after all of these years is: what was actually holding Lightning McQueen back?

    ABOUT ME
I'm Isaac Carlson, a creator based in Orlando, Florida, and ever since I can remember I’ve loved Disney. My fondest childhood memories come from visiting Walt Disney World with my family. I grew up loving Spider-Man, Star Wars, Pixar, and the classic animated films from Disney. The stories, characters, and worlds I adored as a child eventually inspired me to create videos of my own here on RUclips, and it changed my life. On this channel, I explore the characters and worlds that ignite the child within all of us! My goal is to create a community built on wonder, positivity, and optimism where passionate fans can unite to celebrate the magic of animated films. Here, we believe dreams can come true.

The reason lightning mcqueen didnt upgrade himself or his engine, is because the type of racing lightning partakes in is stock car racing, meaning if he upgraded his engine or added performance parts he's no longer stock and therefore could not participate in the races.

We see that Storm and the Next Gens took over the racing league. Storm's winning streak is so huge and he became the first rookie to win the Piston Cup in his first season and became rookie of that year. Later on, he attempted to make record breaking top speeds and his top speed is 214 mph which would make him unbeatable. Even though Lightning is older, he may not be as fast as Storm, but he can be smarter than Storm, just like what Smokey said.

TBH, the only way for Jackson Storm to be humbled is for him to have a similar experience to Lightning's from the 1st movie. Maybe have his career take a downturn after a false accusation-based scandal, that way, while Lightning, Sally and Mater look into the matter on the pleas of Cruz, she invites Jackson to stay at Radiator Springs for a while till the backlash dies down. There, he loses the attitude, starts making friends and embracing some old ways, maybe even gets himself a repaint. Rather than the town just teaching him, however, Storm also shows his best side by helping the town modernize a bit.

As an engineer I can tell you this: the biggest problem with upgrading old cars is compromise with their identity. For example lets take the Golf GTI, it was one of the first compact sportscars ever manufactured. To keep up with modern day compact cars u could swap Engines and stuff... but the space is limited. You could just grow the frame by changing the chassis and body, but by doing that it will loose its identity, that can't be called a Golf anymore. This happened to many cars that came from tuning lines and not from the Manufacturers themselves. Shelby made some models where they remade the body and the car had a new Identity. Mercedes AMG borders that philosophy as well.

I think it’s important to acknowledge the parallels to actual racing, not only NASCAR but things like F1 and Indy also. Generations of racers come and go, quick on their day, but when the new blood comes in and their age starts to show, eventually they have to hang it up because the sport outgrows them regardless of their legendary status. Motorsports always evolve also. NASCAR today sure isn’t the same as it was two decades ago nor F1 was the same then as it is now.
New technology and ideas also play a role. When Michael Schumacher came into F1, he brought with him a training regimen that wasn’t very practiced by the elder racers of his time. In the 50s, anyone could race. But by the 90s and now the 2000s, you have to be in peak shape to endure the conditions and forces that comes with racing.
Age plays a role too but drivers like Fernando Alonso show that fitness and the will to keep going is key even when you keep racing past your “prime” (42 years old in a sport averaged by 20-30 year old racers).

I honestly think this works, even though the Cars movies were never intended to have any logic behind them lol. Cars must stay in their adult frame, but they can modify that frame to fit certain jobs, it just cannot change shape much, or have newer/incompatible technology added. Like you said, Mator has had every different look and car parts added, in the book, but his main body shape never changed(Even when he got the shapeshifting thing in Cars 2 but that was just holograms).
Closest we got was the American Spy, being able to change himself from the blue sports car(I don’t know cars, so he may not have been one) into looking like a lemon car, but its clear he had a shell climb over his body to change how it looked on the outside(as his transformations was different to Finns and Mators). Another is Dusty Crophopper had his whole body overhauled, twice, but his frame stayed the same.
He had his wings traded out for better ones, he got landing gear that could be raised and lowered, his propellor changed, he had his wings swapped again, he had a water/retardant tank added on, he had pontoons added, which shifted his landing gear. But his main body shape never changed. Even Harvey and Winnie(the two RVs from Planes Fire and Rescue) talk about different jobs they had when they were younger. Harvey was a taco truck before he was an RV, and Winnie mentions being half a ton lighter when she and Harvey met.

My theory is that modifications can be done to any car (just like matter) but are not allowed (or illegal) in Piston Cup or any other racing format and cars have to race with whatever chassis, engine or body they have pre-build.
My theory for death in Cars is that they can live until they keep finding right parts to keep them running. But some cars don't want to. Some cars realised that they have lived their life on their terms and want to die (or get scrapped) as a wish. Stanley's wife is way older than Doc but she is still alive because she want to. Also you need parts to keep running but manufacturers don't make older parts anymore because there is less demand for it.

It seems like the "Assembly Line" might be the equivalent of a "Birthing Unit" at a hospital. So think of it as like "Car Healthcare". This also lends itself to both the idea of mechanical repair and the limitation of parts. There's a reason there are waiting lists for organ replacements, it's because there are a limited number of organs that are donated per year. Likewise, there may be limited numbers of parts that can be used for repair.

There's an old classically animated cartoon (I think it was produced in the 60's or 70's - and I saw it on Cartoon Network back the late 90's) that is aesthetically the same style as cars (windshield are eyes, etc.).
    Quick synopsis:
It was about a family of cars with the Dad encouraging his son to follow in his footsteps (or would that be tire tracks) and become a livery cab/taxi. The kid has other aspirations (he wants to become a race-car and compete in the local derby) and get's tricked out as a hot rod - new body, new engine - the whole nine.
He's punished for it and despondent tries to run away from home. The dad tries to chase him but the son is too fast. The dad struggling to keep up overheats and ends up stuck at an intersection with an oncoming train. The kid circles back and helps his dad off the tracks but gets hit instead. Thankfully the kid recovers and he and his family reconcile - he adopts his family profession and reverts his body back to that of a taxi...but he keeps the supped up engine.
When Pixar's Cars was released the style was instantly recognizable. So assuming it follows the lore established by that cartoon, then reproduction is possible...just don't ask me the mechanics of it.

I always thought if Lightning just got an engine rebuild, which he probably needed, and maybe a change in aero, he would've been fine. He was still powerful, hitting near 200mph.
Thing is, Jackson had electric motors, probably a different axle ration, and a wing typically makes less drag than a spoiler. He probably made morr hp, too. There seems to not be a lot of regulation compared to real world NASCAR, since King(a banned 60s car) was racing cars from the 80s(like Chick) and what seemed to be late 90s, early 00's. Which means Lightning probably isn't that old, he'd hafta be at least a young adult in the first movie. Say the same thing applies that a car at 25 is considered a historic vehicle, they age somewhat quickly, being 25 the equivilent of a senior or middle aged car, he's probably only about 6 to 10 years old by the third, and he was very capable against other race cars that have way better aero, horsepower or both. He beat an F1 car and several LMP cars, not to mention as a stock car, he's heavier than some of the other racecars, like the WRC cars. Plot was against him to move a narrative for him to experience both what King and Doc experienced so his rookie[who should've also lost] could move on. She wasn't even a racecar, she's a generic sports car with less power. If I recall; her and Sally have about the same hp, which is less than Lightning, who has 500 last I checked, which I'm sure 00s stock cars were pushing more than that, especially at bigger tracks, like Talladega.

In "Cars 3," Lightning McQueen couldn't beat Jackson Storm initially because Storm represented the next generation of racing, equipped with cutting-edge technology and a sleek design that gave him a significant speed advantage. McQueen, while talented and experienced, was struggling to keep up with Storm's speed and agility.
Additionally, McQueen was facing doubts and insecurities about his own abilities as he aged and saw newer, faster cars like Storm dominating the racing scene. It wasn't until McQueen embraced new training methods, learned from other racers, and tapped into his own strengths and experience that he was able to compete with Storm on equal footing.
So, it wasn't just about raw speed but also about adapting to change, overcoming self-doubt, and finding new ways to compete effectively in a rapidly evolving racing world.

With the late Robin Williams and many other great voice actors. Anyway in that they do show how kids are “born”. And grow up. Although apparently he did get a new gearbox or was it repaired? I cannot remember, but the one who did it said that it was ''the hardest thing'' he had ever done, so maybe that's why. Because it simply is just super hard and may come with risks.

Your perspective made me think they are like actual cars. The mechanical and electrical side. The “ECM engine control module” stores the brain of the cars and controls the mechanical side of everything, such as parts that would need to be swapped out, or aging into a new compatible body style. Each body having its own electrical harness. As the body styles get newer, wiring harnesses get updated, and your ecm is no longer compatible with how the wires in the wiring harness transfer data, the data that controls the parts, thus obsolete.

I think another theory about why McQueen isn't upgraded is probably because of the rules of stock car racing. It doesn't stop new gen racers from joining but you can literally see in both Cars 1 and 3, every car almost look identical, it's a spec series like NASCAR where every car are similar in terms of engine power and body.

An idea is chassis. A real life example is older models had distinct chassis that firmed the basis. Nowadays, the chassis is usually built into the body. Perhaps the chassis and engine are a set. The body can be upgraded but, if car bodies and chassis are being put together, older cars like mcqueen and doc wouldn't have the same upgrade ability because the way they were built are fundamentally different. Perhaps, (following your idea) the body and chassis merge biologically, making upgrades past a certain point infeasible

Can it be like the animated movie robots? Like they create parts for certain generation then stop to make parts for a new one.

Yeah I talked about this idea a lot more in my video about Doc Hudson's death ruclips.net/video/OCYNKGbWMu8/видео.html. I do think they stop making parts, but I don't believe that's the main reason that cars inevitably die.

First thanks for the response it’s an honor to get a response from you. I think they because they just reach the end of thier cycle. But cars can live for a long time. If you look at the first movie. Sally says that the high way was built about 40 years ago and the others cars look like they barely aged. Also like I said before it can also be like they could just reached the end of thier life cycle. It can also be the rust it can also be a factor. Rust is like cancer to cars.
Also i have some ideas for videos you could use if you want. I’m not asking for money or anything I just want to do it because I enjoy your videos.

It wasn't because lightning couldn't do it, it's because that is what the writers wanted to go with... Very unfortunate we couldn't see more of lightning dominating the track

One real world reason for this stems from NASCAR reasons. It's basically like what you said at the end for your first reason: there'd be a bit of pushback. Existing cars can't just be upgraded to keep competing, as it goes against the NASCAR regulations.

They don’t really have organic meaning brains and heart or organs things but the mouth and eyes in windows. That means it would most likely would mean they were built. Like if a car was a kid they are built. And I believe those cars are built. They are sentient, like they are mechanical. But they would be limited in changing bodies

I can't believe people missed this. Mack says "thank the manufacturer" when lightning was found.
