Truth! I smashed a romeo 1 slipping on ice getting off of my tractor. Didn't even hit the concrete, metal step slammed into my gut (aiwb carry) going down. Spiderwebbed the glass bad, though I suppose technically the optic still worked. My local dealer swapped it out for me for free...but I think I went through 3 Romeo 1's in 3 years before I finally switched over. To be fair, I'm sure other optics would probably crack too if they had 180 lb guy slip into a metal step as dead weight. My next optic will probably be the Acro once they have all the kinks worked out and it's widely available.

Assuming it lasts, the only thing I would have liked to see is a shake awake type feature if its going to have an auto off, but seeing as you can turn the auto off off its not that big of a deal.
The reason I personally have been waiting for an ACRO P-2 is that I do a lot of demo and work in crawl spaces. Drywall dust will render an RMR useless (I know this because during busy seasons, I have to clean my pistol at least once a week or sooner). This seems like another interesting option.
It uses the Aimpoint ACRO mounting solution. The 509T is a completely different footprint of it's own. Which is a bummer IMO.. because these are like mini- pic rails, and it would be nice if they could just standardize one, that way the future pistols can all adopt that common rail/ like what has happened across virtually all rifles; Because I believe the closed rds are the future, so a standard common rail would be ideal.

I would say one decent benefit for an enclosed optic over an open emitter optic for concealed carry is that you don't get a bunch of lint and such in your glass and potentially on the emitter. that was a big issue I had with the 507c, it got dirty fast and I wasn't even putting it through especially terrible use, just wearing it and shooting it when I could on a flat range. I don't see myself ever going back to open emitter optics when I don't have to. Still waiting on a closed emitter micro optic that will fit the 507k footprint, if it's even possible.
@@carbon8ed no silly you mentioned lint. Do you dress in a gillie suit? If concealed carry there is no issue with an open emitter and even so, get tall irons with tritium as back up and you are fine

Aaron, as part of your training series, do you think you could discuss the notion of a post ignition push vs a pre-ignition flinch? If you slow down the footage when you're doing the 1 handed manipulations we can see how you're controlling for the recoil right after the trigger breaks (even when it's a dummy). This topic doesn't get a lot of attention.

@Florida Man HVACR Auto on is a simplification of usage that allows you to set and forget in certain instances and not have to worry about turning it on should you have to reach for the weapon quickly. If it doesn't turn on (highly unlikely) then well that's what the irons are for.

I went from a type 2 RMR to a 509T. I would hesitate to switch to an RMR due to battery accessibility, window size and glass distortion. Durability and the name is all it has going for it but there’s plenty of other durable optics
For what it’s worth, I went to an RMR to a 507c v2 and don’t regret it, whatsoever. Don’t think I’ll go back to RMR unless they release a Type 3 that addresses the Type 1/2 shortcomings.
I'm looking for an RDS for offset on AR platform. This has come up for consideration. Shake awake would like but with batt life can leave on. The Holosun 509T version 2 only for glass clarity is also up for consideration. I like the Trijicon SRO window size but as Aaron says closed seems to be the way to go...
Aaron, I went back and watched your video on BUIS placement in relation to the optic. Do you still believe in mounting your iron sights to the front of the optic? I'm noticing on all the recent RDS reviews you've been doing that you have your irons to the rear. Thanks for all your videos.
@@georgekirby3361 so 50k hours that others claim is a pretty crazy difference. But...if you see what settings they are at for that battery life it is typically one or two clicks above night setting levels....which is bright for dark areas with no weapon light use. you pump that up a couple more notches for a bright sunny day or enough to use a weapon light and you are only a click or two from max brightness (which would significantly lower battery life). Most people change batteries once or twice a year.

Another great optics review that has peaked my interest. Off topic though, how can I being left handed right eye dominant increase my recoil control to anything that resembles yours?
The P2 has the potential advantage of higher battery life. Other than that they're both going to be durable and reliable. Choose the one you prefer or can get a better deal on.
Kind of wish they went with the 509T footprint instead, given how much lower it mounts. But it kinda makes sense, given that Aimpoint is a more “battle-proven” brand, I guess.

Holosun 509T will be hard to beat. These days there is no damn reason not to have an auto on feature.
I love mine. absolutely one of my best purchases and i was apprehensive about adopting red dots.
I agree. However, with the very long battery life of most RDS's why would you ever turn off an optic on your EDC or home defense weapon?
The Steiner MPS is longer, taller, wider and heavier; smaller window dimensions, no shake awake and MSRP more expensive than the Holosun 509T.
@Florida Man HVACR Auto on is a simplification of usage that allows you to set and forget in certain instances and not have to worry about turning it on should you have to reach for the weapon quickly. If it doesn't turn on (highly unlikely) then well that's what the irons are for.
@@ThatGuy-sc5rx I agree I am a huge fan of the 509T
Great review.. Thank you for your work.
Looks like a nice optic. I would like to upgrade my Holosun 507c with the RMR but I like the Holosun a lot so idk how much of a upgrade it would be but this Steiner looks like a acro
Personally, I'd upgrade to a 508T if you feel the need to upgrade, in my opinion. I had the RMR and 508T side by side. I picked the 508.
RMR is the best. Made in China products aren’t as good overall. Plates are trash
Oh Burn! Shots fired. If you're one of those 8 people. Love it.
I'm looking for an RDS for offset on AR platform. This has come up for consideration. Shake awake would like but with batt life can leave on. The Holosun 509T version 2 only for glass clarity is also up for consideration. I like the Trijicon SRO window size but as Aaron says closed seems to be the way to go...
greater video!!!.
when you were shooting I was thinking wow man, not sure I could have gone through that ammo without doing some drills.
Was just thinking about this optic. Saw it in IG and didn't know what it was. Looking forward to this
Please manufactures 🙏 keep making the acro footprint the standard for closed dot emitters.
Aaron, I went back and watched your video on BUIS placement in relation to the optic. Do you still believe in mounting your iron sights to the front of the optic? I'm noticing on all the recent RDS reviews you've been doing that you have your irons to the rear. Thanks for all your videos.
I just got 2 M5Xi and 2 MRS, quiet honestly I agree with you European quality is amazing ... good info 👍
I think I’m sold. I was contemplating the ACRO but idk, something about it bugs me the way the Steiner doesn’t
First time viewer, I'm impressed, great review!
A 15 minute sage video can only be really good or really bad. Time to see
Is it possible to take tape rack bang by using the sight without damaging it really in the video? It looks like you use the sight to slide the rack.😎
Out of all the sealed red dots the Holosun and Aimpoint I like this one most!!!🤯🔫🧨
I love the 509 but it gets hot pretty fast.
Seems good. Except once again like the acro for some reason the battery life seems terrible.
13k is over a year.
@@SageDynamics Yeah it's not perfect, but I don't mind changing batteries when the time changes. That's a reasonable cost and minor responsibility.
@@SageDynamics yes I’m aware. If that’s accurate at what setting. And why would it be four years less then many others claim?
@@georgekirby3361 13k is an average. On max power, which virtually no one is going to use, you’d see 3/4 or more of that.
I'm one of those 8 people with a docter footprint. This and the acro are the only duty grade dots that you can get on that footprint.
Thanks for always having the best reviews. Kind of off topic, Curious what watch are you wearing? In the market for a new watch. That looks pretty rad. Thanks.
It's crazy how slow people are catching on to this channel. The body of work of this channel in the next decade is gonna be full of priceless data points. I have no doubt that people will be flooding in here by then, but it's so weird how low the subs are here. I'm baffled.
I was waiting for this one!! 🙌🏼
CONCRETE😲! Whats your take on "luck of the landing" ? Direct hit on Optic vs muzzle or grip. Do you aim it when you drop? Just sayin. No disrespect you are my Gun Guru along with Warriors for Justice and the Firearm Patriot. Thank you for your advice. You are wise beyond your years.
That intro song goes so hard.
I ll wait for the inclosed ACSS Holosun
Interested to see how this holds up. Was set on the Holosun 509T.......until i saw this video. Damn you, Aaron.
As soon as I saw this optic I thought of your review ♥️
Alright Aaron- what’s you’re favorite/ recommended optic for duty handguns?
Do you like this better than the P2?
I don’t have a P2
Thanks for the vid! Btw what glasses are you using?
Steiner knew you were going to drop it on concrete and just wanted to make sure they looked good for the video. :)
How does Aaron know what I'm thinking

Another great optics review that has peaked my interest. Off topic though, how can I being left handed right eye dominant increase my recoil control to anything that resembles yours?
grip harder.
@@jessegpresley thanks, but grip harder with the support or strong hand?
Just secured this optic for an ACRO cut that I can’t find P-2 for so let’s go! Got it for 400 from B&H
I'm in the same boat. Been waiting over a year now and I'm on a few mailing lists too, idk wtf the deal is with the P-2s
How do you program the auto off feature out of it?
If you know please let me know
Hey Aaron, How did you manage to turn off the Auto Shut off? I have the MPS but cant find this info anywhere
After 4 concrete drop test the optic will automatically enable auto off / survival mode because it senses end of life is near 🤣
Was hoping this was coming soon
So now the big question. Acro P2 or MRS? Or is it a toss up?
The P2 has the potential advantage of higher battery life. Other than that they're both going to be durable and reliable. Choose the one you prefer or can get a better deal on.
You are now a action movie that no one reloads.
holy shitt, that drop test... insane...
Steiner was thinking about you when they were designing it to handle drops.
LOL - SO TRUE!!!
they were thinking about you @sagedynamics when the optic was being design and built!
Like cell phones, pistol optics seem to have a HUGE phase, before coming back around to reality
Nice review Aaron, that damn drop test makes me cringe every time, lol
Kind of wish they went with the 509T footprint instead, given how much lower it mounts. But it kinda makes sense, given that Aimpoint is a more “battle-proven” brand, I guess.
can we get a video on the auto sear for the gun? that would be sick
Did the 6390 need to be modified? It would seem that the optic is higher than a normal rds like an rmr or similar.
Nope.
Any idea when I can buy your compensator as a standalone product?
Very soon.
Fully sealed rds, 100% duty rated, ready for "duty"
Aaron,
I seem to have a reoccurring issue of rust and corrosion between my optic and FN509. Any suggestions other than bi-weekly optic removal for oil and zero verification?
What kind of optic? You remove the optic every two weeks? For what exactly? Just curious.
