    Kevin you're correct when you say alcohol is an allusion. Very true. I started out drinking many years ago for self gratification. You worked hard this week, go get beers. My football team won lets go celebrate. All ending up feeling like shit the next day. But then i used alcohol to cope with the bad stuff in life. I lost people close to me. Got to drink to put the stuff under the rug. I was drinking for the good things in life and now the bad things. As you say alcohols tentacles were getting into all parts of my life. Ive been sober for over 2 yrs now and im doing a lot of things that i said i was going to do when i was drinking but never did. My discomfort from stopping drinking lasted 3 to 6 months. The cravings. Then they waned off. When i would get a craving i would find a project no matter how simple, pull fucking weeds or do some laundry. That 15 to 30 minutes of being involved in something go my mind off the drinking. It can be done to all of you out there who are stopping. Stop the drinking thinking.

    I am on evening 4 without alcohol. I have been sleeping really well and thinking so clearly but was considering buying a can of bear tonight. But you have reminded me it is poison and I am missing nothing. Thank you. I am going to watch again tomorrow.

    Had to pause it for a moment to reflect on something you just said about how some people might go 5 years without drinking and then think they can moderate or manage and go back into it...for me when I go just a day or so, I start to think that maybe I can still drink but maybe just a few and then I'm back to a 6pk every night, and that leads to a 12pk on the weekend nights and to misery..every damn time

      Admit you're powerless over alcohol. Admit it! ....and embrace it.

      I had that thought for years.... I would have a horrible hang hover, feel bad about myself, depress and admit to myself that I have a problem, and then 2 days later I would think that maybe I could have just a beer or two and then whole cycle would repeat again getting drunk, over and over.

    My problem is and was, I told myself that if I could just remember how bad the bad feels I would never touch the stuff again. But I only easily remember how good the endorphin high feels like.

    I have to watch this over and over, it's actually my favorite video so far that I've watched, I haven't watched all of them, but you make some very wonderful and deep things to think about in this video, I thank you so much for making these videos! I'm also in process of quitting smoking, diet changes, and I've noticed that it's NOT a god idea to do them all at once! You are helping me personally and I wish I could let you know how much of a difference you've made for me. I'm going to watch more videos of yours! :) I also still love the thoughts, the view in the background of your videos, and the "companionship" that feels like I'm walking with you just having a one on one conversation.

    I'm about 4 months in and your videos helped me since day 1. I tried AA but I couldn't do that program. It made me get a drink before I went and sometimes afterwards but now I only go to collect my chips and to reflect on where I came from (hell) I use to feel ashamed collecting my 1st day chip which I have a collection of but now I walk with pride when they call out my month. I know I use that program wrong but going for my chip gives me a sense of accomplishment. I'm so happy for your videos it helped me at the darkest times and gave me something to look forward to. Like having a different picture of life, myself, and everything around me including nature. Please keep it up. Not just for me but for others as well. 😊

    As the days go by it gets easier and easier I can go into a store and not even look at the alcohol section! This is something I’ve wanted for so long to get clean and sober it’s actually fun because now I can spend money on things that’ll make me healthier instead of something that makes me forget what I did the night before!!!!! I’m feeling so happy these days even losing weight I felt so bloated when I use to drink thank you s😊 much for your videos that help me tremendously I love the way you explain it!

    I have watched a great many of your videos since 2013. I must say, this one is the best, the one I keep coming back to because of its powerful simplicity and matter-of-factness. A few weeks or months of decreasing discomfort versus a lifetime of pain - an easy choice. Puts the whole thing into perspective, really. And no, it's not an effin' hard thing to do! :D It's as hard as we make it, really. Thanks, Kevin.

    Hi Kevin,
    Here's two ideas for daily challenges:
    * Learn a new word a day. This is one of my faves. For example, today was "Grandiloquent" - "pompous or extravagant in language, style, or manner, especially in a way that is intended to impress" lol!
    * Spend 5 minutes learning a foreign language. I'm currently trying to learn Urdu!
    :-)

    • @HabitsV2
      @HabitsV2  7 лет назад +4

      Love it. Urdu is a cool language, especially useful in your part of the world. Good on you for trying to open yourself to other cultures instead of trying to hold on to a very narrow self-identity.

    During the early part of the day "everyday" I know that I never want to drink ever again..but something begins to change in me later and slowly I start thinking that there is misery in this world, and that I am missing my dad and my dogs who were my friends, and I think that I am always going to be a drinker..also, I say to myself that I do not want to live to be 60 or 70 and that I might as well drink up...but I have an enlarged heart and in my moments of clarity I fear that I might not last much longer....I'm 51 and with this bad heart, I m at risk of dying very soon..I feel ok but during the night after drinking my heart beats rapidly for no reason and sometimes it stops beating for a few seconds...I have begun to leave my door open at night so that if I die, my dogs can get out of the house...I have mentioned before that I'm bi-polar and not taking medication, and I do believe that there is another part of me that has a will power to destroy my life just as strong as my will power to live it to the fullest..big trouble in my little brain.
