Good video. I haven't seen the indoctrination on the yell ("back off") but have to chuckle when he is yelling "back off!" at about the same time the cane is landing upside the dummy's head. A tad bit late on the warning? I imagine that the yell is an important concept in a street situation though, for many reasons. Maybe this is like giving someone the count of three, but acting on "one" or "two" to gain a bit of an edge. The simplicity is great. If you have fewer things, you can practice them more, and more frequently without it owning an unsustainable amount of your time. As many of us grow up with seasonal sports we are used to having "off season" time for other things. When I did some martial arts, I realized that there is no "off season" so it becomes a friction point to "forever" sacrifice your other activities year-round. What do you see as a reasonable time to put into training in the art to the point of becoming confident enough to be generally effective, then to stay reasonably fresh? I have a multi-pronged workout routine (different things different days - strength, cardio, yoga/stretch) so the easier I can adapt something or clear some space, the more likely I'll stay with it. Obviously the cane work would have some overlap. Thanks.

Thank you for commenting Scott! - He covers the importance of assertive verbals in other segments and the psychological effect it can have on the opponent. -ACSD teaches the Cane is learned best with focused bite sized sessions for better retention and to avoid overwhelm. The keys are the curriculum (blueprint) and a set of trained eyes (ACSD Coach) for support, feedback, accountability, and the necessary CORRECTIVES for outcomes based training. Without those two components, "training" doesn't go very far- Stay Safe and Keep Canin'!

Great video! Do you have any suggestions on what can be used as a training “dummy” if one cannot afford a model such as you use in this video?? I need the feed back of strike and resistance . Thanks

Thank you for commenting and your kind feedback John! - Stack of tires with pool noodles work. Traditional boxing bags you can put a shirt over with pool noodles for arms also work. Thank you Sir!

It took me a couple of days to add a cane to my defensive skills. I have been practicing Tai Chi for 45 years. Still learning but it keeps me in shape without physically stressing my joints.

I don't think I've seen follow-up strikes used too often. Do you rely on the first strike being effective?

Thank you for commenting G.E. Stroud. As he mentions ACSD imparts a 5 Powershot Template/strategy designed to incapacitate to save your life. However many shots it takes. You'll see combination strikes for the drills at 4:57 (low PS4 +PS!), 8:02 (PS2 +PS1), 8:07 (PS4 +PS1) - so yes combination striking until the threat is removed is built into the strategy. Stay Safe and Keep Canin'!

During your practices, do you also visualize your opponents natural reactions to your strikes, and adjust attack/defense modes accordingly?
*_John, do you have a course, or any tips on cardio strengthening?_*_ Yes, yes, I know that all cane training helps the cardio. But are there any specific tips for cardio itself?_
7:00 *Yes!* that's the shot I mentioned a week or so ago! w00T!

Great question Odee. That visualization is a part of Combat Cane Spinning and the 6 ACSD forms/exercises. We will submit for Tuesday's Cane & Coffee session. - He's big on outcomes based training sessions with a plan every time you pick up your Cane so you maximize your time and result. ACSD Instructors for instance all have lesson plans every time they step on the floor. No guess work. - As far as cardio, he recommends mixing it up and including your Cane whenever possible. Not real big on walking/running at the same pace what he refers to as "mindlessly" on a treadmill. he always tries to include brain training in everything. These are great questions for Tuesday. Thanks for commenting always!
