    In a group I run for my patients (I work for a psychiatric hospital), I keep a few NPCs with them to help round out the party and provide a character for drop in players to pick up. One of those characters is a Ghostwise Halfling monk. She is a beast as a monk and the other players love having her in the party. It is a lot of fun to imagine this sub 3ft woman knocking around big beasts like troglodytes and ogres.

    Like the Wine that's inside the holy Grail! Or the elven queens Grapes! The Cheese made from a Minotaurs Milk! And most prized of them all: Dwarven Goblin Sausages, definetly not named after the meat they are made out of!

      What if you made him an NPC? Fill out a character sheet for them, add the chef feat. You can play them as a pseudo character. They ask for assistance in their quests, with an entirely different questline for each food item. The players inadvertently encounter numerous rewards for the charity of assisting the halfling.

  • @StarkMaximum

    Yay halflings!
    Halflings are so interesting to me, being my least favorite race when I stated playing in 3.5 and now one of my all time favorites in 5e. I dunno, something about the way 5e characterizes them just really speaks to me, and I have countless halfling characters sketched up and ready to go at a moment's notice of almost every class, tbh. I love the sheer storytelling potential that comes from a race who's primary racial traits are "Brave" and "Lucky"; that's the mark of a hero if I ever saw one!
    Any time I need a Dex race for a class that likely would be best served as some sort of elf, I tend to go for a halfling instead just because of their friendly and down-home nature. There's just something so endlessly charming about them.

    I reckon Halflings work bet for Bards, Fighters, and Monks, with maybe a rogue dip for cunning action hide. They aren't meant to skulk around in the dark so without dark-vision i'd personally avoid playing a rogue, also Halflings are to lighthearted a race flavor wise i feel to get into the grittiness of a rogue.
    Bard works best in general i feel since the Halfling lucky can combine really well with expertise especially at later levels when you are adding up to a +15 to your rolls, virtually making it impossible to fail all but the highest DC checks. It also works well as a lighthearted happy go lucky adventure jack of all trades which i feel half-lings are well suited for.
    Fighter shines with it's simplicity in flavor which should roll really well with a simple folk hero happy go lucky Halfling.
    A monk Halfling could have a lot of value in being an acrobatic performer ducking and diving around the battlefield, this could also work well with drunken fist and the performer background as a jester, acrobat or similar.

    • @Nerdarchy
      @Nerdarchy  5 лет назад +1

      I agree with everything, but the grittiness of the rogue. That is only one way to play them. I see them as experts. The sneak attack makes it a bit weird. I almost wish there were options without sneak. In the case of the halfling rogue, the extra damage could be done due to their luck..

      You can use sneak attack if within range of an ally, so your a helpful little rouge stabbing the baddy while your party is near you, giving you that helpful ability.

    • @EasyPhil
      @EasyPhil 5 лет назад

      In regards to the "grittiness of a rogue", what about swashbucklers? That would be absolutely ideal for a lightfoot halfling and you can play it as a shamless braggart and show off, darting between peoples legs as they pop in and out of combat, hiding behind bigger party members while mercilessly taunting enemies and generally driving them nuts.
      Or even a Ghostwise Inquisitive halfling would be good, playing a mini sherlock holmes having that +1 to wisdom would be really good for all the insight and perception checks the subclass relies a lot on.

    • @lfoster6759

    My Stout Halfling assassination rogue is a delightful happy outgoing guy who will happily talk to anyone, go anywhere, and often gets the drinks that he puts lots of poison in. It just seemed to go hand in hand that the rogue who is resistant to poison would handle it a lot and it would be one of his main ways of controlling situations where he got into the enemy camp/base/bar and needed to slow down a lot of people or get one dead drunk without having the whole party fight through everyone. He is kind of a tiny slightly less sadistic Teatime from the Diskworld novels...also much shorter. He also disembowels a lot of enemies since he cant actually reach the head or heart in melee for most enemies.

    I'm a big fan of 1st level barbarian (or 3) and rest moon druid levels ghostwise halfling. Get those wildshape rages and also get to technically speak while wildshaped. Unarmored CON AC somewhat helps to compensate for the limited armor options they have in and out of wildshape. When you run out of rages, getting proficiency in CON saving throws helps keep your concentration for spells while wildshaped.

    Warlock of the great old one. Adopt a habit of making strange gestures and muttering in primordial. Everyone assumes you are mad, but really you are near constantly using mask of many faces to pretend to be a human. Never get hit in combat, and everyone thinks you are a god of evasion when really everyone is taking a swing at shoulder height on the illusion when there is nothing to hit.

  • @Matthias-pj6th

    My favorite Halfling was enabled by some good stat rolls, got an 18, 17, and 12, so I did a Stout Halfling Barbarian (Storm Herald) with 18 Strength, 14 Dexterity (Enough to get +2 in Medium Armour), and 18 Constitution.
    The basic premise of the character was that he was a former acolyte at a monastery of the Four Elements, but the monks threw him out when it became apparent that he had no intention on learning the 'enlightenment' or 'harmony with nature' parts of the doctrine, he only cared about being able to beat people down...
    So to make long story short, you have this Halfling who is in peak physical condition, has a connection with the elements that few people could understand, and enjoyed beating the shit out of stuff *very* much... he decided to become a Pirate (It started as a nautical campaign) and was an utter terror when it came to boarding (In fact, his ship was designed to be fast and heavily armoured with no guns in order to facilitate 'Ram and Board' tactics), he actually met the party when he was trying to raid the ship they were on and both vessels were attacked by a Sea Serpent, leaving them all marooned and forced to work together.

    Can a Halfling rogue that successfully has stealth, attack an enemy then run over to a medium player character and be hidden every time? I really would like some input. I did my very first 5E campaign. I couldn’t come up with a reason why the halfling was not hidden every time he did this. It seems at Halflings break the 5e rules on stealth with that natural ability.

    I just love playing my stout halfling with high AC due to unarmored defense.

    Halfling Wizard with halfling's luck + Xanathar's bountiful luck and second chance + divination die and of course being lucky myself so the DM didn't kick me off the table for trolling.

    Hey guys I was wondering if you can make a vid or direct me to a good source for my question. My friends and I are interested in incorporating armor damage reduction (according to armor type and weapon type used to hit with), instead of just a base To Hit with advantage and disadvantage. Seems it would make combat more realistic and fun

    that thumbnail wasn't a halfling.. she had pointed ears.. Halflings are closer to humans and Gnomes have pointed ears like elves

    Ohhh. I wondered what was up with Ted. He looks a little awkward and I couldn’t figure out why. It looks like he lost a lot of weight at one point.

    The best for handling is rogue/thief than take expertise in slight of hand.At level three you get an+11 on all rolls based on that one roll.The character I ever played.
