Let's not forget the processor in the Nintendo switch is capable of 4k 60fps. Also the CPU and GPU and under clocked a lot. Nintendo also "flipped" a switch to enable Bluetooth audio. The main thing holding the original Nintendo switch back from 4k was the dock.
I just came from Spawn waves video, the old dock can go up to 4K 30 frames. And the switch is not capable for 4K gaming, for video playback I’ll agree with you, but for games no way, maybe some indie titles but not AAA games. I’m not saying this to hate on the switch, but it was never intended for 4K gaming, the newer Pro model could have had DLSS, which would upscale the picture to 4K, but it isn’t the same is native 4K. Also upping the clock speed of the current model will be more helpful for improving the frame rate and not resolution.

Bro 256 shaders from the maxwell architecture from 2014 CANNOT run 4k 60. Its a SOC from 2014. Even if you want to increase the clock speeds it still lacks the necessary number of physical shaders on the gpu and actual cores on the cpu to get the job done. Also as you increase the clocks you increase heat and power and that isnt going to work in the current form factor. Lastly the memory bandwidth alone is going to hold it back. 25.6 GB/s is insanely low. Current ddr4 at 3200 mhz (MT/s) which is also insanely cheap operates at 51.2 GB/s in dual channel operations and most people run their memory at 3600 so it would be faster. And modern graphics cards dont rely on system memory bandwidth and modern 4k gpu’s use a setup giving them anywhere from 448 GB/s to over 1 TB/s of memory bandwidth. The switch needs a complete redesign to run games at 4k. The only 4k you would receive would be 4k output since yes hdmi 1.4 is limited. You might be able to use your 4k tv to watch content at actual 4k 60, but thats about it. And also with DLSS too many people think it would be a silver bullet. You hit the nail on the head when you said Nintendo is treating the Switch like a smartphone lineup. They have been trying to get into the “mobile” market for years now. Apple releases a new/improved model every year that costs $800+ to buy. Why can’t a video game company do the same at a smaller price point.
Nintendo did say they were going to focus on software. 4k update is possible, of course they are walking a fine line. People assuming that they will allow 4k via hardware when in reality it will be an update...
They probably changed the chip because it was more effective to establish a new chip manufacturer than to try and get the old chip manufactured. Plus it has the ability to just upscale when they see fit maybe.. Everyone knows how hard tech is to acquire right now esp. Microchips..
Actually watched another vid and the actual switch OLED also has a chip inside of it capable of 4K upscaling. They literally put Bluetooth on the original switch recently with just an update so the tech was already there that was Capable of Bluetooth. The Swtch OLED is the 4K switch I think.
Might be reading into the Dock chip thing a little too much. It's cheaper to put modern hdmi than old ones that are no longer in production. Happens all the time with hardware. Supply chain, what's the cheapest Also think we need a 1080p60fps switch before a 4k one
If you play Ghostbusters The Video Game, the xbox360 version on current Xbox consoles, you can STILL play online multiplayer, & it’s still active.. RGT needs to remind the fans ! & do a video!
Maybe it’s just as simple as Switch = console with HD capability, Switch + new dock = console with 4K capability. Maybe you’ll buy an external harddrive that you’ll connect to the dock, where the 4K-portion of the game is stored to be played in docked mode, the rest of the game is stored on the Switch itself to be played on the go.
This confirms that the Switch OLED was indeed supposed to be the Switch Pro, but after the investors meeting 2 weeks before the OLED was confirmed, Nintendo and their investors decided to go the OLED route, due to the Chip Shortage, but decided to just leave the dock alone and ship it with the OLED. I could see Nintendo just offering and 4K upgraded Switch Standalone along side complete 4K Switçhes probably Holiday 2023.
With the chip shortage not going away anytime soon I don't see the 4k switch model coming out till 2023 which falls in line with nintendo dropping a new version of the switch every 2 yrs if the trend continues...but thats my opinion
I think everyone's overreacting, I don't see this new dock supporting a 4K Switch. The chip is a video convertor chip to take the video signal from USB-C and convert it to HDMI. It would make sense that the chip used would be this 4K chip, not because this dock WILL be used for a 4K Switch but because there is more demand for 4k convertor chips than a 1080p convertor chips. Eventually, and probably now due to chip shortage, producing a 1080p chip would cost more than the new 4k chip.
We need a computer technician. To look at all the existing motherboards to all these current Switches. To see if there's hardware already existing within the system that be able to do these tricks with software to increase resolution. Because what if the new Nintendo Switch Dock is the only missing hardware. And it's a matter of time for a software firmware update to unlock 4K resolution. We need someone to open the new OLED Switch quick.
So basically there's nothing definitive about the new chip and it's not a secret because the system hasn't officially released and information about the chip is all over the internet.
"switch" oled dock - that's cool, but nintendo rather make 1080p60 more stable on the oled dock. i think nintendo should make "switch" next gen. dock that as power as a ps5 or xbox series x could work with the "switch" v1, v2 and oled with any video dynamic range support like hdr and dolby vision with all the surround sound system like dolby vision.
Did people seriously not predict that the new dock would have an upscaler. As soon as they said it has its own cooling and it would get updates it was obvious. And the chip in the Switch is already capable of 4k it just can't cool itself properly.
That OLED commercial really bothers me. Those "actors" aren't even pressing any buttons, and they're just holding it acting like they're having fun playing what's on screen (which has been edited in, I know), but it's just annoying watching them react to nothing while doing nothing.
Pretty sure Nintendo is just purchasing and installing the common standard chip. I would imagine legacy chips are not as common, harder to find and even more expensive to use at this point. HDMI 1.4 thats like 18 year old technology.
Don't be too quick to draw conclusions just yet about the OLED. People have got the system early but usually with stuff like this there's a day one update. So when launch day arrives perhaps the dock will boost performance. The current hardware actually does have more power available to it. It depends on whether they'll bother with it or not.
Why release a switch OLED with a new chip then? Also only a year between models does not sound like Nintendo. They will want to milk the OLED for at least 2 years in my opinion.
I'd assume the Switch power supply would also need to be capable of offering more wattage (essentially amps, as voltage should remain unchanged) to support the chip 4k power needs, any ideas if the power supply wattage increased?
If the new dock is set to have firmware updates should automatically tell you something. Maybe the chip is 4k ready but Nintendo is flicking the switches one by one to make sure the whole thing doesnt blow up on their faces. Hence the firmware updates.
No! Nintendo had this planned since the switch patent back in 2016 or so (need a definite date on that), so a new 4k system was never in the works. Makes no sense market-wise at all, especially after a close-to 90 million install base. An upgradable dock makes total sense though, and falls in line with the dock’s cloud-enhanced co-processor patents.
I think that if they created a docking station for the new switch that has 4k capabilities it may mean that Nintendo may have plans for creating a future console instead of a handheld system. I mean why put so much emphasis on the docking station and not on the switch when Nintendo knows that all players play the switch handheld mode instead of docked mode. It could also mean that a new switch is coming soon or could mean that Nintendo has some type of idea online, like for example that instead of purchasing the games online through e-shop or buying them on the cartridge it could mean that they could create an online service that you pay monthly or annually and you get all the games as they are released. Maybe it could mean that they upgraded the docking station first and then the switch to fit all of the 4k resolution TVs that are out now. It could as well mean that they want to create the games from now on 4k exclusive, it happened on the PlayStation and I think on some of the Xbox games as well. There are so many possibilities, the important thing is that Nintendo does like to try something new out just to see what happens and if people like it then they use it more often if not well were stuck with it and it's reused again and again.
Nah sorry, Michael, aka SciresM stated that there are no reference to any Pro model in the firmware code released by Nintendo. He stated in the past there were codes for two models which became the lite and OLED model. So no reference to any dock features or Pro model.

Told ya.. and people were saying I was wrong under your last video
That chip is downclocked for LAN use only. It isn’t running at 1ghz that it needs to and has no cooling

They’ll announce new switch in March! Bet ya

Can the processor in the switch run 4k 60fps? Or will it be like stadia?
Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!
What is keeping Disney+ streaming from coming to the Switch?
Is the firmware update not just for the Ethernet?
Maybe it just for 4K video like RUclips, not so much for games 🤷♂️
Not knowing anything, I knew the dock was the key even when the Switch first came out. No Brainer for upgrade.
4K Switch will come Xmas 2022, when Nintendo can use another 'feature' to make another killing in the next holiday season.
I can't see the switch working like a high-end power PC. Higher amps would melt it for sure. It does not have a complicated cooling system.

@@jasonarce5169 good point!
Awesome information
Is Nintendo Prime your brother RGT??
I said this about the dock since the start. Lol
RGT start putting time stamps bro😂
That's not a GPU this is a video decoder/encoder/auto chip most likely help with the video side of things smart.
Ima place bets on the chip being utilized for botw2
3:20 what you came for
Nah sorry, Michael, aka SciresM stated that there are no reference to any Pro model in the firmware code released by Nintendo. He stated in the past there were codes for two models which became the lite and OLED model. So no reference to any dock features or Pro model.
