We came to USA last year, My son in high school. Someone posted on yearly competitions across USA…. I was checking with other parents in the group but none replied about it but heard many kids together go every year for these competitions. They were not ready to even invite or give information. By mistake not knowing about zoned school system here, we put our son in a school where not many Indian kids there. But now no regrets coz he has a chance to mingle and gain more knowledge from other Kids. He himself says that he has no regrets about it. I feel he is more independent and gained more confidence. I am sure this will also help him in future, not depending on just r Indian community.

There is another side to the coin as well. When I share info I see lot of people who misuse the kindness. They learn and do not reciprocate the kindness or acknowledge our act of kindness. They start setting expectations that we should everything with them. The moment we stop sharing it becomes enemity.

Of the many people I have interacted with, I feel you guys are very generous to share immigration, finance or investment information with others and that's seldom to find in people. And, you were spot on, people spend years or even decades to learn investment tactics, and sharing those with others easily is also unfair. But kudos to you guys.

This Groupism (people who lived here for long time and not accepting new people in that ladies group) mostly in apartment communities. American education teaches confident , how to live independently to the kids(our future generation definitely different from our era).

Try to put your child in a school where not many Indian kids r there…. Coz they get to mingle with all kids…. All Indian suggest schools where many Indian kids study. For us we were not aware of zoned schools, by mistake we found an apartment in a different location thinking that suggested schools where coming in that zone. We were in a position to send my son to a different school where not many Indian kids study, initially we were upset about it coz he was starting high school with no friends. But now we r very happy coz has got many other friends other than Indian friends which has made him really independent and also it will help them in future.

Also HSA is eligible only for HDHP plans means high deductible health care plans which are less premium and more deductible and out or pocket..
Whenever u predict more medical expenses better to go high premium plan with the FSA (flexible savings account) which is also tax savings account… but FSA can’t rollover to the next year where as money in HSA never expires

Absolutely, especially when it comes to self-learning. When we were trying to buy a home, most of my friends, particularly those from the Tamil community, were unwilling to share any information with us. They let us go through it the hard way. I've always made sure to help my friends avoid unnecessary struggles, so it was really disappointing to feel such a lack of support from my friends here in the U.S. It felt like a betrayal. Now, my wife and I have chosen to live more independently, without relying on any of our friends here.
I understand this is something ok when it comes to competitive environment like work. But this is completely outside. None of them not related to my work / company which is why confusing and disappointed.
