My take is that sizable fraction of desi family in US are two income ones. Given that additional source, the purchasing power has increased significantly. Big risk factor is the job stability and associated risks.

My income is > 200K but still won’t consider buying any house above 750K as I don’t think I can sleep well at night if I’m paying 40.% above for mortgage . What if I lose my job ? That need to be considered in the analysis too

people are taking extreme risk for purchasing property just to 'show off'. As long as you don't buy things to prove a point you will be safe. Job loss will shatter your finances and personal life.
The tax (federal and state ) + medical + 401k + ssn was not deducted from the gross salary
Considered the social security tax(ssn) with the overall tax bracket
But missed the insurance and 401k

Taking mortgage loan is very high now because the market is not good any time they can fire .
Mortgage is HIGH due to the interest rates are high..
but mortgage is not record high during 90s this rate is very common
Also one thing should be consider when FED started rate cuts more people will rush into the housing market for buying the house , demand will surge and price too
So, plan properly and find the dip of the housing price and buy it is the right approach

You can buy a house with h1B and I140 approved
If no I140 approved then you can buy if you are having at least 4 years H1B CAP is available else if you are having confidence that the employer will start the I140 soon then u can think about buying the house

Sorry its wrong calculation… it depends on the how much interest we paid and the interest amount multiplied by the highest tax bracket %
A taxpayer spending $12,000 on mortgage interest and paying taxes at an income tax rate of 24% would be permitted to exclude $12,000 from income tax liability. This would result in a savings of $2,880, or 24% of $12,000. The homeowner therefore paid $12,000 to the bank in interest to get less than a fourth of that amount excluded from taxation.
So its not always the higher deduction
Even standard deduction for everyone is 27,700 if married and filing jointly
