    Love hoyas, fell in love from Jenna Marbles plant tour video. I got my first one as a gift to my fiance and I on our engagement. It's a Hoya Kerri, it was a 2 leaf node cutting and after many many months its finally started to push out a tiny tiny bump of new growth. I hope it continues to grow as our love does ;)

      Update: it grew so tall before putting out new leaves. After a 2 feet of hearts I've folded it over a trellis hoop which made it stop growing from the original shoot and grow from the highest point on the arch. I've got a full burtoniae, pubicalyx, and lots of smaller nursery pots of different hoyas. I love them so much ♡♡

    I don´t know exactly why but it´s so freaking satisfyng to watch hoyas grow lol! 😍 Especially the more succulent ones. I think it´s just so cute that they start out as a tiny leaf that grows bigger instead of unfurling, so you never really know what they are gonna end up like. Also the leaves can vary A LOT on the the same plant which makes them cool and funky, like my hoya pink princess has some leaves which are slim and almost dark brown and others are round and mostly pink 🙌

    • @beckythebealge
      @beckythebealge Год назад +1

      I am the same way. The leafs also grow pretty fast. I check new growth on my Hoyasmultiple times a day and it’s the first thing I do in the morning even before coffee

    It should be very hard to dry out a hoya. I like to use cacti/succulent soil. It completely drains pretty quickly and whenever it does you can water again. Overwatering is the main killer. I had a compacta carnosa for years and years. It had several vines over two feet. It bloomed beginning in the spring and throughout the summer, in an open east facing window where I live in N Alabama. I dont even know how many peducles it had but the whole living room had that flowery chocolate smell. I would put it outside when the weather was warm enough and it was able to soak up all the rain it could with that fast drying soil. It couldn't bear the summer sun, so I would have to bring it inside when I didn't live somewhere where I couldn't leave it out in the shade. I miss my plants soo much. My depression got so bad they all died off, even the cacti and succs, except for my elephants foot palm, which is 23yo now and magnificent. I hope to get a new slew of hoyas one day, but I can't really keep indoor plants at my current residence. My elephants foot lives in the garage and it survives the winters like a champ, I don't even water it from about November to March. But I would try at least one of your hoyas in fast drying soil. I believe they grow faster that way. Just wait until the soil dries between waterings

    It's a little hard for my eyes to focus on the plants when you move them around so much, more stable shots like of the mathilde splash were easier to see the details of the plant + not such a "busy" shot.

    Hey! Hope you're not drowning in the floods. I have 2 carnosas (krimson queen & princess) and a pubcalyx. I bought the carnosas off gumtree and received them bare-root, and they are still adapting to the disruption, but the pubicalyx I bought locally and it seems to have adjusted to my home a lot easier. I totally think buying hoyas locally is better, to reduce damaging their slow-growing, fragile roots :O

      H Nicole! Thankfully I'm not affected by the floods. Hope you aren't either! I totally agree with buying hoyas locally. I find they take awhile to adjust if the environment is quite different. Thanks for sharing and hope your hoyas grow well for you!!

      @@MyFellowFoliage Thankfully I didn't get any flooding down the coast, but I did need too bring all my plants in off my balcony and repot a couple soggy ones into dry soil. Repotting in the rain is a muddy endeavour! My bf was not impressed lol but thankfully the only casualties were a few pothos propagations I had just transferred to soil which didn't get enough light and rotted. I should have put them under grow lights!

    Maybe too much strength in the liquid fertilizer, (if you are using). It can be too much Nitrogen too!! You can try slow release fertilizer for a change.

    What a beautiful collection! Love your macrophylla with those pink rims. Do you find yours are very thirsty? For a large thick leaved hoya I find mine to demand a lot of water and not drought tolerant at all. My plant is about the same size as yours, in a 4" pot and has to be watered every 6-7 days...

    • @MyFellowFoliage
      @MyFellowFoliage  2 года назад

      Thank you! I actually find it to be quite drought tolerant. It doesn't require too much water, but it could also be because of the potting mix it's in. What do you use and is yours in terracotta?

      @@MyFellowFoliage mine is in a standard chunky hoya mix with about 1/3 potting mix, the rest a combination of perlite, pumice and bark. It is in a 4" plastic nursery pot that is actually a little too large for its root ball but I found 3" to be drying out every 4-5 days. Now I can barely stretch 1 week. I find that if I let mine fully dry out like my obovata, the growth point will immediately dry up. It needs to be watered the moment the soil dries up and cant stand being completely dry for even 1 day... maybe also has to do with maturity of the plant? Mine is small with only 5 leaves.

      You could make your own with multiple different items. Just some wire would do in a pinch. A wire mesh should support the vines very well. It would need to be something non reactive though, rust proof

    • @MyFellowFoliage
      @MyFellowFoliage  3 года назад +1

      Hi Susan, it's quite normal for Hoyas to shoot out vines before the leaves start to fill in :) Don't worry it sounds like it's doing totally fine

      @susanapostol3314 3 года назад

      @@MyFellowFoliage but the vine started to dry off is that normal?

    • @MyFellowFoliage
      @MyFellowFoliage  3 года назад

      @@susanapostol3314 Ohh sorry now I gotcha. If the new vine is starting to dry off that's generally a sign that it's not getting enough water. So maybe water it a couple days earlier than you normally would. I'd say to increase watering gradually though because I always find it tricky to start increasing watering frequency after plants have adjusted to being underwater. Suddenly flooding them with water may lead to root rot or older leaves yellowing very quickly.
