5 Reasons Why You Should Never Use Plain Water As Washer Fluid

- Using just plain water as washer fluid can be hazardous - especially in colder weather. When it comes to driving safely, one of the key factors is keeping your windshield clean. A dirty windshield or one that is hazed in the winters can drastically hinder your visibility. You’ll want to make sure you’re using a proper washer fluid to keep your windshield clean in between car washes. And many would probably think that most windshield washer fluids are all the same, but that’s hardly the case.

Damn bruh just straight up dissed water gang for 30 seconds.
Someone had to do it - lol
I have water in my tank and it always leaves mineral residue on the windshield and it’s pretty annoying
I live on a tropical island and use distilled water so these are non-issues…
Water isn’t as effective though, being an island you probably have bugs & other stuck on debris. Just a helpful thought.
@@carsonbaker7416 lmao bugs and debis. Living in the tropics doesn't equal more bugs bro
Won’t be an issue in Los Angeles, California
Of texas
Totally not an issue in my country, Saudi Arabia 🤣🔥
I'm a little late to the party, but that looks like a C6 Z06
I am like 99% sure that my Hyundai dealership itself is putting water in my windshield wiper reservoir because I always use windshield wiper fluid and when I tested it recently it was just water that came out. I have that whole mold looking issue so imagine my frustration that I take my car to the Hyundai dealership to do its normal servicing and they are the ones putting water in it.
Yeah - that would be frustrating and very disappointing.
I don't get some of these comments, because washer fluid starts at $1.99 a gallon. If you use water, you're saving MAYBE 50¢. In the long run, you could be out all the money it costs to replace damaged parts. Why risk it to save that 50¢? Silly.
Wiper fluid poisons our planet's soil, air, plants, and water.
everyone in australia puts water in.
Yeah, none of these are sounding like actual issues to me as well.
This video was actually helpful because I do need wiper fluid but not badly, and it's like if I don't need it might as well do the lowest. Guess water could actually do worse then nothing.
Can you use coolant and water mix ?
While coolants are not meant to freeze and can be diluted based on your environment - it serves a different purpose than windshield washer fluid based on its chemical makeup.
If antifreeze (coolant) is used it probably won't wipe off the windshield very clean; antifreeze is usually pretty corrosive and you don't want that in your windshield washer pump, hoses, wipers, windshield gasket, and on your car's paint.
Antifreeze is also very harmful to animals as they are attracted to the sweet smell and taste. So, spraying the windshield and onto the ground (even in small amounts) can seriously compromise an animal’s health.
The winter weather windshield washer fluid that is sold these days is a perfect solution for colder weather.
Ha I like to see that happen here in Arizona
Water freezes and expands?
Yes, separate water molecules are connected by Hydrogen bonds, when water freezes these bonds become static thus it expands when it freezes and reduces in volume when it liquefies unlike most other liquids which contract when they freeze/ solidify e.g. coconut oil.
I'm in Florida we good
So useless to not do so in florida?
Won't ever be an issue in Texas
Are you saying it never freezes in Texas?
Wasn't there a massive ice storm in Texas last year?
Last time it got that cold was like 40 years ago
Usually stays 80-110 here depending on the season
That was the first time I've ever seen snow in my life
@@andythefork I wouldn't say never, more like very very rarely.
🤘
How do you fix it now its frozen
It has to defrost, can you park it in a heated garage? You can try filling the remainder of the container with the correct winter washer fluid. The alcohol in the washer fluid will melt the water faster - but it will take time. Just keep repeating this process by squirting it on the windshield until it all defrosts. This could a while!
@@YourHomeGarage it's not even making the noise that it's trying to squirt, do you think my fuse has gone or worse
There is a chance the fuse has blown - but I would try to defrost it first. At that point you can diagnose it more accurately.
Not convincing enough I'll continue to use water
