I take liquid MCT in my coffee each morning for the last 7 yrs. If I take as much as a tablespoon, I would be so sick to my stomach I would have to take a Tums to get to work. Aprox 2 tsp seems to work fine with no stomach upset. Less appetite and no constipation are great benefits. Good for the brain too! Start slow w/MCT and work up.
Nobody believes this works but this is my hack. I take 20 oz of water, 2 scoops of MCT powder, 2 scoops of electrolytes with salt, half a package of Celsius drink mix(I use half to limit my caffeine to 100mg in the drink) and 5 grams of creatine I take about 10 minutes to drink it on the way to the gym. I can workout for 90 minutes without getting exhausted. I do this on a fasted stomach in the morning before my workout. My last meal is always before 4 pm the day before. After my workout, I have no appetite other then maybe thirst for water. Days I skip this routine, I get exhausted 40 minutes in my workout and feel like skipping cardio. World of a difference with MCT oil, but I find the electrolytes help it. This routine for 3 months has allowed me to shed 1-2 pounds a week. Prior no weight loss with same routine. I think the drink boosts fat burning by priming you while also curbing your appetite.
Yes, i know. But its a small Amount i consume in a week. 2 packets the whole week split up. I eat grass feed and finished beef, I am mostly carnivore and never over 15 carbs a day. I eat extremely well. But cant be perfect but try my best. All the food we eat is wrapped in plastic. I live in NYC, the air i breath is what will do me in first if i dont get shot by a mugger

❤ Taking those large capsules can be a bit much so when I make my fatte latte in the morning ( frothed butter in my coffee with salt crystals around the rim, like a margarita) I pop in a handful of MCT capsules. The oil mixes with the butter and salt, tastes delicious. Super extra energy in the morning. Hello Dr. Boz, I’m a new subscriber and really love your very informative videos! I’ve been on the carnivore diet for 4 months now because i wanted to lose weight. My daughter had started this WOE 2 months prior and was losing so I decided to give it a try. My problem is I have no gallbladder and was diagnosed with IBS-D so my diarrhea only got worse. Two weeks in on this diet I decided to quit due to the diarrhea until i tested my blood sugar and it was 85 (been pre-diabetic for years). I cannot even remember when my BS levels were in the normal range. Currently, my BS levels have been ranging from 85-99 and I have lost 30 pounds on the carnivore diet. I eat 2 meals a day and IF 16:8. My meals consist of a variation of meat, salmon and eggs all cooked in tallow or butter.I want to switch to the ketogenic diet but afraid to mess up my BS levels. Would taking your MCT oil supplements help me bypass the fat malabsorption issue? Any other suggestions you have to help me switch to the ketogenic diet and maintain my normal BS levels would be greatly appreciated 😊
Qq_ I ordered the CGM, put it on 3pm yesterday. I started a fast on the 10th of September USA/10 of September Germany. Kinda cool the 9 hours difference. Today is day 3 fasting. It has me in the normal range. I’m thinking too fast, or when I get hungry to eat Sardined. But so far just water and a coffee with butter. Been Carnivore 21 months. Put on 30#’s do to most likely stress. Was unable to join your 21 day program. 😢 The weight sucks, and yet I continue on Carnivore because of how much better I feel daily. I take 1 ounce of MCT oil with my morning coffee & then around noon I eat an ounce of Coconut oil to get the Lauric acid & its antimicrobial effects... Then I have my Carnivore-OMAD in the evening. The rest of my fat comes from Butter or Tallow... So far, so good 😁 (Sometimes I have a little diarrhea, but after suffering from constipation for years, it's a welcome change!)
I take MCT oil daily. I have to take it in the evening only. I noticed that taking it in the morning gave me slight tremors. Not good for a practicing dentist. I take it for brain health only. I will try an increased dose the next time I have back pain. Thanks Dr. Boz.

I bought a bottle of Dr. Boz MCT oil and decided to try taking 55 capsules a day for a week straight. I tested my ketones at the end of every day. They were higher than usual but not as high as I was expecting. The last day was really low... like 0.3. The highest was a 1.9 on day 2.
@@15MileMedia You need to buy a device to measure them, I use a Keto Mojo GK+. It will measure blood sugar and ketones with a finger prick. Keto Mojo will also calculate your GKI ( Glucose Ketone Index { blood sugar in mg/dl divided by 18, then take that number and divide by ketones). So, ideally, you would want a low blood sugar and high ketones, which is a GKI under 9. If you can get it under 1, you would be in the highest therapeutic level of ketosis, but that's more for cancer patients, I think. Under 9 means your metabolizing fat more than sugar. Usually, you need ketones of at least 0.5 mmol/L to have a shot of being in ketosis.
The upset stomach probably comes from the gelatin in the capsules.. I take two tablespoons of MCT oil from a bottle in one litre of coffee with butter, cream, cocoa and cinnamon - my variant on Bullet Proof Coffee and have no digestion problems.
I take about an ounce of MCT oil in each cup of coffee I drink in the morning. I drink between two and 3 cups every morning. I take it for my possible early onset dementia and my wife says she can tell the difference. I can't. In fact, I don't really notice most of the benefits you are mentioning here. But I will continue to take it just in case it works.
@@blackfootdaisy coffee is the problem. Lion diet will fix the gut, then start adding things in slowly (one at a time for several days) to see what you tolerate.
some people have issues even slowly building a tolerance to MCT. Standard MCT oil consists of C8,C10 and C12. you can buy an isolated version MCT with only of C8 (Caprylic acid) some people tolerate that better. (don't get me wrong you still need to slowly increase the amount)
If you ever need to interrupt a water fast you can use MCT (taken in small amounts at a time) to get you through a period when you need energy for a task.
I began watching this video doubting that I would learn anything, but I was wrong. I'm also having suppressed ketones and also a sore knee. I walk about ten miles per day. They stopped stocking MCT oil at Costco but I'm going to order more on their website and see how it works for me. I appreciate you.
For your “sore knee” perhaps you should try taking (1) Boron 3mg pill daily. I had awful pain in my left knee and right hip for a couple of weeks. The pain never got better and then I tried just (1) Boron 3mg daily and then another dose the next day and 100 percent of the pains went away completely! Most of us are deficient in Boron because of US soils are depleted of various nutrients like Boron. Knock on wood, those pains are still gone after nearly three years.
Thank you for the info, I know I am still quite Insulin Resistant, but have been doing Keto for almost 2 years, and recently got the Stelo, it cofirmed where I am, and while I am not checking Ketones, I have a pretty good idea and feeling of when I am in Ketosis and I know I haven't been for a while. So I did the butter experiment and I was only able to make it through about a stick and half of butter though out my 24 hours. I was just too full and sasiated to eat any more. I look forward to catching your Lives sometime and maybe ask some questions. (I hate fish/seafood, so while I can probably stress my metabolism with something else in 72 hours, I don't know about the sardines)
@@sherireuther3047 I like my coffee with cream, and MCT oil by itself doesn't seem to make it creamy. I add the MCT oil to heavy cream, shake well before using. Then just add as much as I want.

Kathleen you have a great point. I also have some issue with my swallowing. Went to ENT for evaluation/treatment of some kind of throat issue. He said I have silent gerd. I have lost over 10 pounds just due to not wanting to eat, related to swallowing. Also it seems I can eat anything I want, nothing adds weight, as in ice cream, etc. I’m also moving so have a high cortisol level I’m sure. Put our mom into a senior community after not able to handle her behaviors getting worse from dementia. So I would never be onboard for swallowing a bunch of pills. I do take a few in AM but only 2 at a time and after holding in my mouth to soften the capsules first. Thanks 🙋♀️🙏
Isn't MCT oil a specific section of standard coconut oil ... ? the part with carbon chains of between 9-12 C atoms ? Surely just using coconut oil for cooking, salad dressing, etc gets the same result, taking a bit longer perhaps but less likely to cause upheavals in the digestive system.
Love adding MCT oil into a cup of bone broth soup or mixed other fatty foods like tuna with mayo. Totally disguises the oiliness. Cannot stand it in coffee the oil feel on my lips with coffee just feels wrong.

You aren’t supposed to cook with it. It was likely cleaning out the garbage in your liver! I went through this too when I put it in my coffee and am glad I hung in there. It got rid of the toxins.

Isn't a blood sugar of 39 like you had considered dangerous? As a type 1 Diabetic I have had seizures and passed out going below 45. I went into a coma once when it went below 40. I actually have an alarm set on my continuous glucose monitor to go off in case it gets below 55 during the night so I can wake up and take a glucose pill to keep it from falling any further.
@drboz after a couple days of diahrea(pretty sure from mct) and dizzyness that almost sent me to er, i am no longer making ketones and glucose is over 100! My dbr was 50 and under for several weeks! Still eating 80/20 like i was before this happened! Any advice greatly appreciated. Still off balance with electrolytes but improving
Becuz she sells MCT pills lol She actually has them made special so they are certain of the mcts that she feels are best So MCT oil is an isolate of coconut oil and her MCT pills are an isolate of MCT oil. Prob would work with MCT oil tho. I may try it with the MCT oil. It’s tasteless unlike coconut oil and I can eat a couple tbsp of that daily if I nibble at them (it’s usually hard or gelled in my cupboard in my climate) Best to start slow. Her son was used to high fat! You can also break up the oil-1 tsp then hrs later another then hrs later another. Hit ur GI tract slowly. But maybe just start out 1-2 tsp daily. U know how high fat you have been eating- or not lol

You can do the same thing, only better, by Grounding, it halts the inflammation immediately. You should thrive to stay grounded as much as possible....Grounding is the most important health measure, and this Dr. Should be talking about it regularly. Everything else she recommends will have even more profound effects
Question: given MCT is not digested, does it break the morning fast if you take it in the morning? ie -does it interrupt intermittent fasting to take it first thing?

Interesting. I started adding MCT to my carnivore diet a while back to try and get my ketones up to a better level. I was at 1 or lower for a while there even while eating lots of fat. So I increased my fat intake more and also squirt MCT in with it. I think I'll add more and see if it helps further. I've managed to get up into the mid-twos, but would like to see them a bit higher than that. I have been reading about how it boosts ketones more immediately, so that can be a way to get through stretches of the day when your ketones are lower than you would like.

The genetic or “familial” diseases has been debunked except for extremely rare diseases. It’s the same food and lifestyle that creates the same issues. Carbohydrates store excess insulin as fat. So the bread rice, pasta, flours, sugars sodas etc cause all the problems. Cut them out of your diet for 3 months and only eat animal products and drink filtered water, tea coffee etc, no alcohol. It’s a big lifestyle change but you’ll feel a million dollars. All your bloodwork will show you.

I had to stop taking mct. I stored fat on my hips and tommy. First years doing keto, i always took a tablespoon in my coffee. Its great for the brain! But i had to stop taking it after 3 years in keto.
Fat doesn’t store fat, it burns fat, it’s sugar that coverts excess insulin into fat stores. Do you eat all the “keto sweet treats” , if anything tastes sweet, it’s not your friend unfortunately.
It’s clearing out your liver or you have pancreatitis. Eating fat shouldn’t be painful more than a day or 2 if it’s your liver. If it’s pancreatitis you will end up needing a doctor.

I hope this is not true as I recall that's very much in what we would call. Strokeville, in other words, that's really bad. She's teaching quackery that goes against the most basic principles of science. Hypoglycemia is dangerous, she thinks the ketones make up for it, it's pure madness. If she wants to do that to herself that's one thing but to influence the public to think like that is wrong. She talks keto this and keto that, yet glucose makes alpha-ketones pyruvate by CoA (coenzyme A) then to ATP (adenosine triphosphate) cellular energy through glycolysis regularly. Fructolysis does the same. All diets are "ketogenic" as ketones are carb/sugar metabolites on the way to ATP. And fats are nothing more than concentrated long and short chain carbs. The secret is carbs trigger IGF-1 growth hormone, so low/no carb diets lose weight by raising BMR (body metabolic rate) to process fats/proteins which are larger compounds at the same rate carbs/glucose does. Glucose molecule produces more ATP per molecules, so fats/proteins have double duty and more ATP is required looping to maintain that high BMR sped up state for lipolysis/beta-oxidation [for beta-ketones] of fats and gluconeogenesis of proteins and that takes weight off because of the harder work. People "feel great" not because of ketones [which are constantly made with any diet] but because in that high BMR sped up state more cortisol, adrenaline and dopamine are released literally the exact same physiology of doing coke or meth and losing weight. Snake oil is ketogenic too. 🐍
I’m now up to 1/4 cup of MCT oil a day. I take a measured TB four times a day, never on an empty stomach. How long can I keep this up if I’m looking to reverse arthritis?
Dr Boz, could it be that ketones are low in the morning because the energy needs are null at that time. Maybe we need to revisit this expectation and concentrate more on the daytime readings while eliminating the stress of not having those higher morning ketone levels

I use Dr Colbert MCT oil. The unflavored one. I also have liquid but use that for coffee on days off or on a salad with vinegar.

I take 1 ounce of MCT oil with my morning coffee & then around noon I eat an ounce of Coconut oil to get the Lauric acid & its antimicrobial effects... Then I have my Carnivore-OMAD in the evening. The rest of my fat comes from Butter or Tallow... So far, so good 😁
(Sometimes I have a little diarrhea, but after suffering from constipation for years, it's a welcome change!)

I bought a bottle of Dr. Boz MCT oil and decided to try taking 55 capsules a day for a week straight. I tested my ketones at the end of every day. They were higher than usual but not as high as I was expecting. The last day was really low... like 0.3. The highest was a 1.9 on day 2.
How do we measure ketones and what do the ranges mean?
@@15MileMedia You need to buy a device to measure them, I use a Keto Mojo GK+. It will measure blood sugar and ketones with a finger prick. Keto Mojo will also calculate your GKI ( Glucose Ketone Index { blood sugar in mg/dl divided by 18, then take that number and divide by ketones). So, ideally, you would want a low blood sugar and high ketones, which is a GKI under 9. If you can get it under 1, you would be in the highest therapeutic level of ketosis, but that's more for cancer patients, I think. Under 9 means your metabolizing fat more than sugar. Usually, you need ketones of at least 0.5 mmol/L to have a shot of being in ketosis.
The upset stomach probably comes from the gelatin in the capsules.. I take two tablespoons of MCT oil from a bottle in one litre of coffee with butter, cream, cocoa and cinnamon - my variant on Bullet Proof Coffee and have no digestion problems.

some people have issues even slowly building a tolerance to MCT. Standard MCT oil consists of C8,C10 and C12. you can buy an isolated version MCT with only of C8 (Caprylic acid) some people tolerate that better. (don't get me wrong you still need to slowly increase the amount)

For your “sore knee” perhaps you should try taking (1) Boron 3mg pill daily. I had awful pain in my left knee and right hip for a couple of weeks. The pain never got better and then I tried just (1) Boron 3mg daily and then another dose the next day and 100 percent of the pains went away completely!
Most of us are deficient in Boron because of US soils are depleted of various nutrients like Boron.
Knock on wood, those pains are still gone after nearly three years.

Thank you for the info, I know I am still quite Insulin Resistant, but have been doing Keto for almost 2 years, and recently got the Stelo, it cofirmed where I am, and while I am not checking Ketones, I have a pretty good idea and feeling of when I am in Ketosis and I know I haven't been for a while. So I did the butter experiment and I was only able to make it through about a stick and half of butter though out my 24 hours. I was just too full and sasiated to eat any more. I look forward to catching your Lives sometime and maybe ask some questions. (I hate fish/seafood, so while I can probably stress my metabolism with something else in 72 hours, I don't know about the sardines)

Why put MCT oil in capsules? Just use the oil in a beverage and then you aren’t eating all those capsule coatings
It is utterly flavorless and leaves no aftertaste if you just take it by the spoonful.

Kathleen you have a great point. I also have some issue with my swallowing. Went to ENT for evaluation/treatment of some kind of throat issue. He said I have silent gerd. I have lost over 10 pounds just due to not wanting to eat, related to swallowing. Also it seems I can eat anything I want, nothing adds weight, as in ice cream, etc. I’m also moving so have a high cortisol level I’m sure. Put our mom into a senior community after not able to handle her behaviors getting worse from dementia. So I would never be onboard for swallowing a bunch of pills. I do take a few in AM but only 2 at a time and after holding in my mouth to soften the capsules first. Thanks 🙋♀️🙏
Isn't MCT oil a specific section of standard coconut oil ... ? the part with carbon chains of between 9-12 C atoms ? Surely just using coconut oil for cooking, salad dressing, etc gets the same result, taking a bit longer perhaps but less likely to cause upheavals in the digestive system.

Please discuss electrolyte dumping. I think mct messed me up. A couple days of diahrea then got extremely dizzy and more diahrea. Was told I'm not eating enough protein could be an issue. Would love to hear your view..

Isn't a blood sugar of 39 like you had considered dangerous? As a type 1 Diabetic I have had seizures and passed out going below 45. I went into a coma once when it went below 40. I actually have an alarm set on my continuous glucose monitor to go off in case it gets below 55 during the night so I can wake up and take a glucose pill to keep it from falling any further.

Best to start slow. Her son was used to high fat! You can also break up the oil-1 tsp then hrs later another then hrs later another. Hit ur GI tract slowly. But maybe just start out 1-2 tsp daily. U know how high fat you have been eating- or not lol

Why not just put (organic) coconut oil and pastured unsalted butter in your coffee? Adds flavor along with my raw cream direct from the farm. I've been doing that for years. I try to eat only whole foods.

Interesting. I started adding MCT to my carnivore diet a while back to try and get my ketones up to a better level. I was at 1 or lower for a while there even while eating lots of fat. So I increased my fat intake more and also squirt MCT in with it. I think I'll add more and see if it helps further. I've managed to get up into the mid-twos, but would like to see them a bit higher than that. I have been reading about how it boosts ketones more immediately, so that can be a way to get through stretches of the day when your ketones are lower than you would like.

The genetic or “familial” diseases has been debunked except for extremely rare diseases. It’s the same food and lifestyle that creates the same issues. Carbohydrates store excess insulin as fat. So the bread rice, pasta, flours, sugars sodas etc cause all the problems. Cut them out of your diet for 3 months and only eat animal products and drink filtered water, tea coffee etc, no alcohol. It’s a big lifestyle change but you’ll feel a million dollars. All your bloodwork will show you.

I had to stop taking mct. I stored fat on my hips and tommy. First years doing keto, i always took a tablespoon in my coffee. Its great for the brain! But i had to stop taking it after 3 years in keto.

She's teaching quackery that goes against the most basic principles of science. Hypoglycemia is dangerous, she thinks the ketones make up for it, it's pure madness. If she wants to do that to herself that's one thing but to influence the public to think like that is wrong. She talks keto this and keto that, yet glucose makes alpha-ketones pyruvate by CoA (coenzyme A) then to ATP (adenosine triphosphate) cellular energy through glycolysis regularly. Fructolysis does the same. All diets are "ketogenic" as ketones are carb/sugar metabolites on the way to ATP. And fats are nothing more than concentrated long and short chain carbs. The secret is carbs trigger IGF-1 growth hormone, so low/no carb diets lose weight by raising BMR (body metabolic rate) to process fats/proteins which are larger compounds at the same rate carbs/glucose does. Glucose molecule produces more ATP per molecules, so fats/proteins have double duty and more ATP is required looping to maintain that high BMR sped up state for lipolysis/beta-oxidation [for beta-ketones] of fats and gluconeogenesis of proteins and that takes weight off because of the harder work. People "feel great" not because of ketones [which are constantly made with any diet] but because in that high BMR sped up state more cortisol, adrenaline and dopamine are released literally the exact same physiology of doing coke or meth and losing weight. Snake oil is ketogenic too. 🐍

Dr Boz, could it be that ketones are low in the morning because the energy needs are null at that time. Maybe we need to revisit this expectation and concentrate more on the daytime readings while eliminating the stress of not having those higher morning ketone levels
