My Hoya Mathilde hadn’t done anything for an entire year. NOTHING. It sits by a west facing window, sits by a humidifier, has a trellis and still nothing. 2 weeks ago I chopped her and boom it has 2 new leaves and activated another growth point. Your tips definitely are on point and work 💯
Excellent video on Hoyas! All five tips are spot on from my experience. Very concise and enjoyable to watch. Many but not all Hoyas seem to sleep their first year. Then some do that creeping thing the second year. 😵💫. We want to be prepared for the long game when it comes to Hoyas and celebrate the victories when we pick up a Hoya that turns out to be an overachiever ! 🥰. Many thanks for for this video!! 👌🪴🥰
I'm glad you thought the video was accurate! I've spent a lot of time growing Hoya lol. When it comes to cuttings specifically, some just wanna surprise you and grow right away, while others do absolutely NOTHING for what seems like an eternity!!! They certainly do test out patience sometimes lol
I have this Hoya Carnosa that would not grow, it was under a grow light all winter and did not grow and I just assumed it was focusing on making roots, however spring came and still no new growth, I used some Liquidirt fertilizer and nothing. Finally I decided to prune it to encourage new growth and bam now it is putting out new leaves like crazy, they are growing so fast! The only problem is now the cuttings I took when I pruned a few months ago still haven't put out new growth! 😂
A commenter on another person's video suggested watching this video if you have a growing problem with your Hoya. Well, I have two babies, a princess and a queen (I killed their mothers.) They have not grown in "TWO" years since their moms were murdered. They never even grew one new leaf. I now call them The Zombie Kids. I've placed them in high and low light but they don't care. I've checked their roots, and Nothing! They are not large enough to trellis, so I'm gonna try putting them in a box for humidity. Thanks, had to subscribe because it looks like you've got excellent info to share.
Welcome to the fam! Happy to have you!! I hope the tips help! Sometimes Hoya are so frustrating! I had a big Queen once upon a time before the mealies took her. I managed to save one cutting I'd taken prior to the infestation and it took FOREVER to put out any new growth. Granted this was a long time ago so I wasn't as savvy as I am now, haha, but still!
Yes any tips and tricks you can show on hoyas, i would love it. Ill go back and find your past videos. I have fallen in love with hoyas so as much knowledge i can get i want. I have 4 prop boxes full of hoyas and I could really use the help. Thanks!
That was a lot of good information I think I heard someone on u tube say they use an orchid fertilizer that comes I a bottle and they spray the Hoya leaves I’m sorry don’t know the name of it thank you for sharing
Thank you!!! I’m a newly Hoya obsessed crazy plant person. I’m buying but they’re not growing!!! Only so much room in my bright windows so I will try installing a grow light that I already have😉. Thank you!
My Australis is growing. Can't believe it. Also my obscura is popping off. So happy. Excited to watch this video. Hopefully I can learn something from u. Ur plants all look happy
@@jaclynns.jungle oh I absolutely agree. Even the people who r very seasoned lose plnts. I totally agree with that but yes, ur hoya game is on point. Great info ty!
Hi again Jaclynn, always so good to see you and thanks again for another great video, I really love Hoyas, and I have put 5 of them on a trellis, mine are the bamboo ones, but I always like to try different ones, I also have mine in an East facing window and they get lots of really nice bright sun, and they have really been growing so great. I have a really old one that my mom gave me a start over 25 years ago and I felt like it needed a repot so I did that 2 years ago and 2 of the trails broke off because it wasn't on a trellis yet so I put those in water and within 2 weeks it had amazing roots and I put it in a pot with a trellis and that plant is growing so crazy and fast and is twice the size of the mother plant. But I really agree that placing them on a trellis really makes them grow super fast, because all the ones that are now on a trellis are almost twice the size they originally started out as. Thanks again for another great video, and sometimes I like to DIY my own trellis, I hope that you have a great week, take care sending love and hugs, bye for now. 🤣🥰😻💜
I'm glad you're having success with trellises!! Mine have definitely taken off on them as well!! I wish I had the patience to make my own, but thankfully I have some really talented friends who can make them for me 😊 I appreciate you Holly 🥰
I have a crimson queen and a Hindu rope that I bought over a year ago, and they have always been super cute but would not grow. At all. 😅 I kept them in the same size pot but with a fresh soil mix, and now both of them are growing for me this summer! 🙌
I'm glad they finally started to grow!!! Sometimes they just like to make you wait a few seasons to get adjusted! It's a super common thing people tell me, that the first-year they do nothing and then BAM 🤷🏻♀️
I bought the same 2 plants last October. My queen has been great but the Hindu rope has given me nothing aside from looking very plump and healthy. Just no new growth at all. Some fresh soil is worth a try.

Finally I decided to prune it to encourage new growth and bam now it is putting out new leaves like crazy, they are growing so fast! The only problem is now the cuttings I took when I pruned a few months agonand put in a fairly sunny room with a grow light still haven't put out new growth! I think it might just stay 4 leaves forever! 😂
Also a lil bit of a dilute/natural sort of fertilizer (like Liquidirt) has always helped my Hoyas burst with growth! Also taboo… but i fertilize year round 🤯
I just purchased my 4th hoya, a varigated Hindu Rope. Trying to stop there 😅. We'll see! But I broke off the newest 2 leaves when I got it home. Nothing has grown back since, 4 weeks ago.
I have an Ikea cabinet i bought on Feb put grow lights and let me tell you they love it there.Plus i have been spraying them w/ orchid spray ones a week. They have given me a bunch of new leaves.

Hi Jaclynn , love your video you explained everything well. I received my 6 inch bare root hoya tricolor krimson queen March 27, It’s now july 2, ( a little over 3 months) it’s healthy , it’s by the window receiving a lot of bright light and humidity is okay , do you think there should be a new growth now , which there isn’t . I know i was reading Hoyas are slow grower, is this one of them?
Give it some time, cuttings can take a while since they're not established. Just keep it in a small container and be patient! If it still doesn't budge definitely consider giving it a trim!
I have 6 or 7 hoya now, just got 3 lineriers cuttings...I put them un water? Good? Bad? Plus I got a tiny 3 leafs cutting of a super silver, in water as well....is this good or should I run. And take them out ;*)
so, it turns out that my Lisa likes to not dry out completely. the first few months of our relationship were rough, but now she gets a drink once a week and she doubled in size
That's a great point Maria! Sometimes people don't water them enough thinking they are more drought tolerant than they may be!! I'll add that into the next one 😊💕

How do you propagate hoya compacta carnosa?
Don't forget to ALWAYS wrap your hoyas counterclockwise on the trellis. It's the way they grow. Your welcome. :)
