Honestly, I always preferred Blood and Iron. To be fair, John Hurt/Prof. Trevor was a big part of it, but I always enjoyed the haunting aesthetic that's established throughout.
Hellboy: [sarcastic] Gosh, Kate, I feel just awful dragging you away from rotting manuscripts and ancient texts. I mean, you used to research trolls! Professor Kate Corrigan: It's okay. Now I get to work with one. Love that part between the two.
I only saw these Hellboy animated films when they both aired on Toonami in 2006/2007 and I do remember liking the first more then the second but not that much more but then again those two films are pretty much all I know about Hellboy as I never read the comics or saw the life action films sadly. Good points though and I am remembering the two films now seeing those clips again and do remember the big deal made about Broom being on the main team in the second film and what not.
I tried the animated movie and it was awesome! Ron Perlman is excellent as usual :D His character is respected, hilarious and bad-ass! Liz and Abe are proactive, really charming and cool as well. The animation is good, the music is epic, the monsters are interesting and scary. It's just enjoyable and fun, I liked every minutes of it! I forgot the title though X) I should try the series, it looks great! Thank's for sharing your opinion Erod, it gives me the envy to watch it and the others animated movies I didn't saw yet.
@@Senskonot as weird as your weird choice of favorite style. Admittedly mignola is a top notch layout / storyboard artist, but his actual drawing is pretty weak
This one is a bit of a foggy memory so anyone here is free to correct me on this... I remember the animated movies having their network debut sometime in the mid 2000's on Cartoon Network a long time ago...
The Ferbguy yeah, I remember this as well, I watched them with my dad back in like 2005. Kinda spurred my love for supernatural action stuff back in the day. Good times. 👌🏻
The animated videos were good but for those who like continuity, it's difficult to place where these stories take place. Is it canon to the movies or not? Still great that they got the original cast back. Also Tad Stones directed it, which is awesome since he did Buzz Lightyear of Star Command 😁
For me, the animation on Swords of Storms looked worse, because it was brighter movie, so the corners they had to cut (thanks to the limited budget of a direct-to-dvd cartoon) were more noticeable and the overall story was pretty boring and by-the-numbers. Blood and Iron, on the other hand, looks so much better, because all the gothic shadows help to hide animation's weak spots more and I liked the slow-paced horror movie-esque tone of the story.
Plus I think the story of blood and iron was a little less predictable and I think what helped for me was the inclusion of professor Broom and we got to see him in action on the field.
Darknorman 29 He could still try. After all E-Rod wanted these films to respect the character source material and all three have done that. The franchise direction is changing for the better
You should make at one point: a look back to X-Men the Animated Series. You own this to this amazing show because your Honest Review lasted only 10 minutes.
Yeah with Blood and Iron you could tell they had to cut corners with the film to get it released on schedule. They needed to simplify the story massively, as the Hecate stuff was irrelevant to the overall plot. The script could have used a rewrite or two and they should have just left the plot as one about a Vampire queen and the souls of her victims wanting justice. If you took out all of the stuff that felt "tacked on" the animated movie would have probably only been half an hour long.
Blood and Iron is even closer to the comics than Sword of Storms. It's very B.P.R.D. with what it's like involving the conference, the supernatural events, and overall, Swords of Storms is far too active, and I'd rather watch Blood and Iron with something that I actually like, a slow burn that is worth it in the end than watch something too fast paced and distracting, like Sword of Storms.
I always assumed for the longest time that Blood & Iron was the first movie, while Sword of Storms was it's sequel. Mainly because Prof. Broom was in B&I, while he was "absent" from SoS.
See, I found Sword of Storms' pacing kind of hard to follow- not saying Blood and Iron is a paragon of that either, but, between the two, I'd say Blood and Iron's was better... I don't think B & I's flashbacks were excessive or confusing, in my humble opinion. Sword of Storms had more exciting backgrounds and environments, but I do think the animation is just a tad better in the second movie... the darker atmosphere meant they could put more into the fight scenes, and it hid the flaws of the low-budget animation better. I know the reviewer thought Blood and Iron was a little boring, but I very much enjoyed the politics and personalities in play at the meeting before they went off on the mission. Stuff like that is fascinating to me!
Um...where in the comics was it said that Hellboy and Kate were dating? Not saying you're wrong. Just curious. I never read any of the big comics except Seed of Destruction.
I don't think they ever dated in any continuity... I mean, I suppose you could say there's something between them at least in Sword of Storms, but one could interpret them as being affectionate friends. That's how I always saw it; to each their own!
King Brick He might as well. Wonder Woman, Aquaman AND this have all delivered on good standalone DC films so no use claiming the franchise didn’t learn its lesson
@Ben Wasserman I know and If you look at E-Rod's twitter history over the last month or so he would always seem to praise news articles supporting Captain Marvel mainly how much money it made and criticising DC and he never pointed out anything Wonder Woman or Aquaman accomplished
If you are a Hellboy fan, just don't listen to this guy. I guess this is an opinion of somebody who never seen the original Hellboy comics, and instead just likes saturday morning cartoons and Donald Duck. :| And so the goofy, childish "Sword of storms" is a great movie, while the mature, much better written "Blood and iron", that actually perfectly captures the melancholic atmosphere of Mignola's comics, was "boring". Right.
Honestly, I always preferred Blood and Iron. To be fair, John Hurt/Prof. Trevor was a big part of it, but I always enjoyed the haunting aesthetic that's established throughout.
Same here I always enjoyed blood and iron just as much as sword of storms
I also preferred the plot of blood and iron because it was a bit less predictable and I preferred the action scenes.
So, we have Ron Perlman and Peri Gilpin playing demon and girlfriend, the same two actors who voiced Lancer and Desiree on Danny Phantom.
I guess if you want Hellboy 3 watch the Hellboy animated films.
"Blood and Iron is the _worst_ Hellboy adaptation."
Oh, wait 'til you see Hellboy '19... I think you might need to drop-da-HAMMA!
Oh he did.
I loved those hellboy animated movies they were really awesome
Not seeing good reviews on the reboot film. That’s a damn shame for Sheriff Hopper
Till the reboot came along.
Hellboy:
[sarcastic] Gosh, Kate, I feel just awful dragging you away from rotting manuscripts and ancient texts. I mean, you used to research trolls!
Professor Kate Corrigan:
It's okay. Now I get to work with one.
Love that part between the two.
Animated hellboy movies made between the two live action hellboy movies, I'll rewatch them now. Thanks Eron for telling us.

I loved watching these 2 animated movies on HBO Family on prime time.
No joke, Blood and Iron traumatized me.
Me too

Love the designs but how cool would it be if they used mike mignola’s art style. Like in the pilot for “amazing screw on head”
Yeah.
Mignola probably got my favourite art style in all of comics; not using that just seems like an odd choice.
@@Senskonot as weird as your weird choice of favorite style. Admittedly mignola is a top notch layout / storyboard artist, but his actual drawing is pretty weak

I remember Blood and Iron a little better for whatever reason.

I wanna see a big screen adaptation of the comic of Batman and Hellboy and see spider-man teamup with hellboy
I disagree about one thing. I thought Blood and Iron was way better than Sword of Storms. I like both a lot but I thought Blood and Iron was better
m.ruclips.net/video/FqJ8KHY8Kpg/видео.html
They just released them on 4K UHD Physical Media release.
The animated movies are awesome
My favorite Hellboy animated film is Blood & Iron
That's odd, I actually thought that Blood and Iron was better than Sword of Storms. Nonetheless I enjoyed them both. Great video!

I know it'll be a while, but I'd love to see a crossover of you with Some Jerk With a Camera on the Jungle Cruise movie.
I got the Hellboy animated movies & 1 of em I got from best buy with a gentle giant animated Hellboy fig totally worth it
0:43 Frank Miller’s Batman Dark Knight Returns reference.
Remember there’s was a supposed to be a 3rd hellboy animated movie as it show a trailer but never happen.
I don’t remember Kate corgian being a couple in the comics
Great movies. Really wish they did a third
I did not even know there was a cartoon.. the more you know.
I watched Blood and Iron here on RUclips....Its really dark... I needed to Up the Brightness...
6:10 she looks like a bobblehead version of herself lol
I liked the first animated Hellboy animated film more.
Personally I enjoyed Blood and Iron more than I enjoyed Sword of storms
ERod Blockbuster Buster can you bust Pacific Rim Uprising.
dont for get about Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command
I wish they made a 3rd animated movie!
I remember never being able to get one f these not scratched to all hell from blockbuster
Bust the master of disguise please
I hope you review Shazam. You can view as if it’s not in the DCEU. It’s Stand Alone!
Michael Segal And Aquaman. And Wonder Woman
Yeah .... no it still takes place in the dceu and also Wonder Woman and aqua man were standalone movies which he refuses to review
Darknorman 29 He could still try. After all E-Rod wanted these films to respect the character source material and all three have done that. The franchise direction is changing for the better
What about the other Hellboy animated film, the Science of Evil?
That's a video game.
You should make at one point: a look back to X-Men the Animated Series. You own this to this amazing show because your Honest Review lasted only 10 minutes.
Tbh, I'm more interested in an Honest Review for Wolverine and the X-Men. That show kicks most of the live action movies in the nuts.

1:43 - 1:53 According to the reviews and reactions, Hellboy (2019) didn't do well.
I see it

Makes me sad Doug didn't get to do Abe's voice in the movies.
He did in the second one.
Yeah, I know you're not seeing this ERod... but you massively misread Blood and Iron. It's the one I like better due to the buildup.
The deaigh liz Sherman looklike Kim possbile
can you please talk about the Spawn Animated Series
Is Doug Jones played shredded in the next mutation?
Is there any chance for you to review Shazam?
King Brick He might as well. Wonder Woman, Aquaman AND this have all delivered on good standalone DC films so no use claiming the franchise didn’t learn its lesson
@King Brick. Not Likely as E-Rod has blacklisted the DCEU and refuses to even talk about Wonder Woman and Aquaman
Jordan Carpenter Seems kind of petty in hindsight
@Ben Wasserman I know and If you look at E-Rod's twitter history over the last month or so he would always seem to praise news articles supporting Captain Marvel mainly how much money it made and criticising DC and he never pointed out anything Wonder Woman or Aquaman accomplished

Why do you look like a villainous monk
This weird because I swore everyone hated sword of storms while people liked blood and iron
