The saddest thing about the original Hellboy movies was the third movie that didn't happen. It was delayed to high hell because the first 2 movies didn't much enough $$$. No wanted to make #3... and the director finally gave up. A new team wanted to make #3 later on but it was too late. So here we are with a reboot on the horizon.
Yeah, Perlman and Del Toro wanted so bad to make it happen and from what I understand the studio wouldn't let it happen in any way because of the money problem on Hellboy 2
It was DelToros fault...he wanted way too much money... anywhere from 80-150 million.... which is ridiculous. Hellboy 2019 was on a 50 million budget and did a great job with the creatures that were in the movie... All it needed was a good Director like DelToro....
@@80swoodpanel I doubt thats resourceful.... He wanted to burn money making huge sets in Hellboy 2.... Troll Market was clearly the most expensive thing from both movies...
Hellboy is still my favorite non-MCU superhero film. Guiliermo Del Toro's work is always incredible to watch & Perlman was BORN to play this role. It makes me so sad we will never see any more like it...
I think Liz didn’t get her own uniform in the first movie because her character doesn’t want to be part of the agency yet. It make sense that in the second movie she gets her own uniform in the second movie because she has accepted that she is part of the agency. She is no longer a reluctant heroine in the second movie.
Ron Perlman said at a Q&A session that John Hurt was born to act, he could do any role justice. He also told a story of how he technically saved Hurt's life while on break from making the movie from pickpockets. I like this movie too
Like you erod hellboy is my favorite comic book character now tomorrow and FOREVER!!! Thanks for finally talking about it. And you released it on my birthday thanks so much
Guillermo Del Toro’s Hellboy is one of the most important movies, and Big Red himself is one of my most cherish characters of all time. The movies have inspired my own creative works and I owe it all to Del Toro, Pearlman, and Mignola himself for creating my main fictional role model as a kid.
Seeing the first Hellboy movie as a kid back when it came out, my mind was blown away by it. I loved it from start to end. It's in my list of favorite comic book movies..
Awesome video ERod, loved it. Though while Rick's name was attached, true credit for Hellboy's makeup goes to Matt Rose and Chad Waters. While Guillermo always wanted Rick, Rick wanted Matt and Chad to have their own show due to the amount of years of great work and loyalty towards him. Sadly Matt passed this January and can't celebrate the 15th anniversary with us. Here's to you, Matt, you were and still are one of the greats.
I first saw Hellboy 2. I'll say that HB2 had the better more sympathetic villain in the elven prince as he wants his people and other fairy tale species to not live underground anymore even if he wants humanity eliminated.
Having known nothing about Hellboy before the movie came out, when I saw this movie I immediately fell in love with the character and the Lovecraftian world he exists in and to a lesser extent Mike Mignola's greater body of work. I am...less than impressed by what I've seen in the trailers of the new Hellboy adaptation. It looks like they put a lot of work into the movie and I've got nothing against David Harbour as an actor (love his work in Stranger Things), but I think the make-up they've got him in looks half-assed and the over-use of CGI in the movie painfully obvious. Much as I love Hellboy, Ron Perlman will always be Hellboy to me and I feel without having Guillermo del Toro's visionary imagery to fall back on as a draw, this new adaptation is probably going to be lackluster and a dead-end for the franchise.
1:53 - Nazis using sorcery to summon an all-powerful supernatural entity to help them win World War II? Methinks the creators of Return to Castle Wolfenstein (great game, btw) were fans of the Hellboy comics. 6:55 - Um, Sony's first major successful comic book adaptation was Men in Black, not Spider-Man.
Huh...I actually never picked that up. I have seen this movie but it was within the first year of its release and I never noticed that Hellboy was basically a little boy in a huge body. I just figured he was an immature grunt. Whoops
Ok i have a question for the hellboy comic readers. Does he (Hellboy) have cats in the comic book? I ask because in the Del Toro movies Hellboy has like 15 cats. I mean why were there cats in this movie? Mr. Del Toro had to put aside money in the budget for the cats money that could have been put somewhere else. But no he put cats in this big budget comic book movie. There is a strict regulations for animals to be in movies that he could have not had to deal with but he did. So either Mr. Del Toro really like cats or was this a Ron Perlman Idea or both but I just think that is way really weird.
Finally, ERod gives the Lookback Treatment to Hellboy Duology.
Hellboy 2 is one of my favorite comic book movies, up there with Spiderman 2 & A history of violence etc.

Agreed.
@@SharpDesign It's a real shame because GDT made the 85 million Hellboy 2 look like it had twice the budget. The man is resourceful.

My all-time favorite comic book film, ladies and gentlemen. It has absolutely everything!

Hellboy is a underrated piece of comic book movies and so is the sequel.

"and we are the one's who bum back" Thank you John Hurt, that is one of my favorite lines from the first film.

Nice recap:)
I especially like how you go over meticulous details about production without making them boring. Great job!
I'm gonna have Hellboy marathon this weekend which also includes your reviews of the movies and the animated show😁
I agree with you Erod, Kronen is one of my favorites. I always enjoyed the first film more when he was on screen.
I’m sure David Harbour will do Hellboy justice. It’s just a shame he can’t punch a Demigorgon with that right arm
I hadnt heard about the behind the scenes of this production. Cool interesting stuff. Cool video.
Keep up the great work ERod!

I fucking love Hellboy movies, glad to learn more about them from here :D
Del Tol should be given an MCU film.
He from dark horse comics man
I first saw Hellboy 2. I'll say that HB2 had the better more sympathetic villain in the elven prince as he wants his people and other fairy tale species to not live underground anymore even if he wants humanity eliminated.
I loved the music for those movies soooo fuckin much
Del Toro should of being allowed to make The Dark Universe.
I think Myers was added in the movie because the studio felt like people would not related to a demon monster character.
Ron Pearlman as Hellboy is great. His comedy delivery is great because to me it reminds me of the way comedy is like from the books.
Nicely done ERod. Though why isn't this an official Blockbuster Buster episode like the previous ALB@s?
I didn't realize how much I wanted this.
i love hellboy movie its so awesome and badass
Hey e-rod agent Manning is a character from the comics, he appears in "seed of destruction"
Having known nothing about Hellboy before the movie came out, when I saw this movie I immediately fell in love with the character and the Lovecraftian world he exists in and to a lesser extent Mike Mignola's greater body of work.

I love the first movie of hellboy
About to go to bed. I need to watch this.
I gotta grab hellboy animated, I remember watching blood and iron on teletoon at night when I was young
I didn’t expect your favorite hero to be Hellboy.
Dude even looks like Hellboy
Good review erod
I know it'll be a while, but I'd love to see a crossover of you with Some Jerk With a Camera on the Jungle Cruise movie.
You wouldn't like me when i'm Hellboy.
I've got good hopes for the reboot, but it'll never have the same charm as the first 2 movies
it'll not be the same. So, it can either be better or worse.
I'm interested in the Hellboy reboot but I would always have Hellboy 1 and 2 in my heart
I have seen this movie way to many times
Quick question ERod, what are your thoughts on The Shape of Water and the fan theory that it's a prequel to the Hellboy movies?
ERod Blockbuster can you bust Pacific Rim Uprising.
I am pretty sure it is federal law when you mention him in this movie, you are required to refer to him as "Ron Fuck-Mothering Perlman.
Del Toro got so damn screwed out of making Hellboy 3.
He screwed himself...he wanted too much money for HB3
RIP John Hurt

Am I the only one who thinks Kroenen sounds like a video game character?
Just wondering why EROD keeps saying guillermo as "Gi-JER-mo" and "Gi-yer-mo" intermittently. I always thought he second way was the correct way.
Bust Sin City A Dame To Kill for.
Very sad ron Perlman couldn’t be in a 3rd hellboy movie.
I prefer the film's world, with Hellboy being kept secret from the public.
Doug Jones was your choice to play The creature from the black lagoon.
Ok i have a question for the hellboy comic readers. Does he (Hellboy) have cats in the comic book?

Manning was in the comics before the film
( pulls up lawn chair )
spawn vs hellboy who would want to see them crossover in the comics?
I just couldn't get in to either of these films.
Fun fact Guillermo Del Toro loves fishmen
Well, the reboot is a film the exists. That’s all I can say about it.
Please bust The Predator.
R RATED
10:24 - 10:32 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand you lost me.
Tom Manning was created for the comics, Kate and Hellboy aren't in a relationship, are you sure you've read the comics?
the ratings aren't looking too good for the new one
It's about goddam time...worth ir
Goutelmo del toro lol
It’s really dumb
