Hey guys. I just wanted to apologize for my playing on this video not being up to par. I had just woken up five minutes before the interview. I had played that TSmith guitar once and had not yet set it up. I was not using my own amp settings and I did not prepare a lesson. We finished five minutes before I had to run to get on stage. needless to say it was a stressful day. Hopefully I can redeem myself soon :)

so strange to see this comment almost a decade later.
I've been coming back to these two vids throughout the years as I've progressed with my own playing.
I was about to comment "in an age where everyone gives guitarists shit for recording at half-speed, Marc was out here playing his riffs almost twice as fast."

Think outside the box an do what you're good at. Outside the box means experiment with different chord voicings, scales that you construct, not what you rip off from other songs or basic majors and minors tht you learn from books. And try to find a groove or rhythm in everything you compose. Including leads and motifs. Arrangement is a whole mother beast, but coming up with originals shouldn't be that different. Just playing covers all the time will show people you're good but will take you nowhere trust

one of the most impressive metal riffing i've ever seen. his style reminds me of muhammed suicmez (necrophagist) and fredrik thordendal (meshuggah)

It's just polyrhythmic playing more than anything else, I too have seen them live and they were just insane!

i tried to learn the first riff from the tab in the description and wtf i never thought it would be this hard, 0:33 is a ridiculous finger stretch...this guy is ridiculous. i mostly play tech-death stuff like spawn of posession & gorod, to be honest i'm not a fan of deathcore and extremely unfamiliar with veil of maya stuff, but this guy has blown me away haha he's got TALENT

Saw them live last night, seriously skilled guitarist, and he seems to think like I do which is cool.

Im way more into straight death/tech death, don't like going into the core side of metal, yet these guys are amazing. He's an amazing and extremely underrated guitar player.

Born of Osiris and Veil of Maya are two of my favorite bands ever. Just because they have some similarities doesn't mean one has to trump the other.

Listening to just the guitar alone reminds me of After The Burial!

@decimater75 You can't copyright chords, nor progressions. Only melodies, read up before you start saying people rip each other off. Other artists use it all the time, it may not be the most creative thing, but if it helps the music flow why not.

i love that barking type tone he gets out of the chugs. like 1:30 - 1:46. the open notes sound amazing.

In bars 28-33 (and the same thing in 36-41) there's a quarter note missing; it could be added to the last bar (becoming a 5/4 bar), but I think it is easier to have two bars of 4, and "anticipate" the following riff. Sorry for my bad english :-)
