Got an open-box one for $375 shipped off Facebook marketplace and it arrived the day the update came out. Couldn't have worked out better, this camera is so damn sharp compared to my sx-70's & SLR 680
bought mines for $400 off ebay a few days after the update. love it so far.
I was happy with the update, but i only shot with Duochrome and New B&W ... no color!!! Definitely is better in more even light as opposed to high contrast stuff ... but to be fair Instax can struggle with mixed lighting!!!
I think the first picture comparison is different.
I noticed the grass verge and road in the foreground to the left is different.
The before seems to have a unnatural hue to the colours, whereas the after seems to have more naturalistic tones in those areas.
I prefer the unnatural first one... but then I prefer the after shots for all the other pictures.
The “tones” are from the temperature outside. It was hot that day
Glad they're working towards fixing the exposure I wish they could do the same for the now plus Gen 2
Yeahhh if only!
Polaroid used a certain batch of film when calibrating the camera originally, and for some reason that batch was less than 640 ISO and they didn't realize it. That's why it overexposes most of the time with the original firmware. They never intended for it to over/under expose anything on auto.
It's good faith to update the firmware but it's still mad to me to drop a camera at that price point and leave the light meter issue for a year before addressing it. And that doesn’t even touch the fact that the film can still be an issue too lol
Yeahhh plastic $600 camera is just not right
The real problem is that the thing costs 700,-€
Indeed!
Yeah, what a gnarly price. They missed an opportunity to really bring polaroid back by putting it into the hands of more people.
It looks nice, but very underwhelming when put up against that price. Absolutely insane decision.
I hope there will be a firmware update that will make the film cheaper.
Haha one can dream
Why did the camera shoot with a so slow shutter speed? Is the camera able to shoot at 1/500th of a second?
You would think. It was favoring aperture apparently.
Ordering for the holidays this year. 😊
I went from a sharper image instax mini right into the fire with the nons sl660. It's an absolute dream come true for me. The money I'm saving using instax however, is being rolled into different lenses-which has its charm I guess.
That shot with the bus was a nice one! 6:00
This camera was extremely disappointing to me.. two exposures isn’t enough to convince me the erratic, unpredictable over exposures issue is solved.
My experience - the camera still overexposes after the upgrade. Flash pictures too are very over exposed after the upgrade. I've gotten great, saturated, properly exposed shots, however, by exposing the camera manually (using an iphone meter app). Also - I still have to darken the picture by almost 1 notch when using flash (as manual flash pictures are not easy to get with the built in flash).
These are my exposure results (both before and after the upgrade) but remember that your mileage may vary as I am wondering if all the cameras are the same. Again, used as a manual camera, I still feel that the camera is worth it because I've gotten some colorful shots exposing manually.
Based on your videos and advice I purchased the Fujifilm Instax Mini Link 3 to print out the photos my family and friends take with our day to day cameras. We are having a great time! Now granted we are not shooting with film cameras, but we are using Leica, Fujifilm, Olympus, and Canon cameras, but the prints are so much fun! We appreciate everything you do on this channel, and thank you!
the firmware update works. I'm glad they worked on it and addressed the issue.
I haven't been able to get mine to trigger an external flash. Tried multiple flashes and cables. There is also no way to test an external flash without shooting a photo so I've gone through a couple packs of film just trying to get it to work. Any word on an update regarding external flash control/triggering?
Load an empty film pack into your camera to test cables and flashes. The camera will think it has film in it and will let you test shoot without using up film.
It's good that they have the ability to tweak it still without mechanical intervention. Although I still think it would have been better if they just made new SX-70 style cameras
Why? That camera already exists. Plus if they did it would cost double than the i2
@@JustAnotherChris It could have updated internals, but cost to manufacture is surprisingly low. They created basically another plastic box that does what their other plastic boxes do. The foldable style cameras are easily more practical and worth the cost. There wouldn't be as much r&d needed because it's already there.
Sure but it would cost ridiculous money for an SLR instant camera to be manufactured in 2024. The market is too small to warrant the cost. We’re lucky polaroid made this.
@@JustAnotherChris NONS managed managed to pull it off for less than this cost. Maybe the i2 will lead to better things. Happy they're releasing cameras but they're not for me, and I'm nobody lol
@DaarkCloud NONS are more than $600 plus that’s an entirely different camera set up that’s uses interchangeable lenses. I’m speaking about a polaroid camera specifically that has everything all in 1
Nice video! Hope you do some more content on it after you get some more miles under your belt with the new software.
I definitely will be. I’m headed to Japan with it next week. So stay tuned 👀
@@JustAnotherChris Sweet! Looking forward to seeing the results from the trip. Enjoy and safe travels!
I'm now wondering if the new film formula has a different exposure range and they made the update to better match that? (the camera was designed before the new formulas came out and thus was shipped ill-adapted to the performance of the new film)...
That’s an interesting theory 🤔
you are pretty much in the right ballpark here for your theory
its less of the "new formula" issue though and more to do with batches behaving differently due to the dev chems
Calibrating a camera for a single certain batch of film does not necessarily guarantee results across the board...
First!!!
I haven’t used this camera but it seems like it should not be $600 if it is still having exposure issues, maybe more of the $200-400 range max
