McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantom II US Navy VF-96 Fighting Falcons, Hobby Master 1:72 Diecast HA1974

- VF-96 "Fighting Falcons" on board the USS Constellation deployed to Vietnam from October 1971 until July 1972. While there, F-4J 157267 "Showtime 112" crewed by Lt. Randall "Duke" Cunningham and LTJG William "Willie" Driscoll shot down their first two MiG's. On January 19, 1972 they shot down a MiG-21 over North Vietnam followed by a MiG-17 on May 8, 1972. 157267 was later upgraded to an "S" variant and in 1984 was sent to MASDC but later went on display at the San Diego Air Museum. They would go on to shoot down another 3 North Vietnamese aircraft in "Showtime 100" but that aircraft would be lost to a SAM missile. They would both eject safely and be rescued by Navy helicopters.
Seen here is the McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantom II USN VF-96 Fighting Falcons, NG112 "Showtime 112", as flown by Randall Cunningham and William Driscoll, while aboard USS Constellation, Vietnam in 1972 in 1:72nd scale diecast by Hobby Master. It's a very nice model with a great paint scheme.

And from a bad ass pair of naval aviators to boot 😉 hope you enjoy the video as much as I did making it 😀. I still wonder why HM didn't put their names on the model. I assume the aircraft was assigned to the pilots on the canopy after Cunningham and Driscoll moved over to "Showtime 100" but I could be wrong,haha. I am not am expert,haha. A wonderful model. The HM Phantom is a really, really good model. Although they lag behind X-Plus and Air Commander in quality, they are still amazing.
Like always from me.
I think the F-4 is HM's money maker,haha they have release so many different liveries for this aircraft. I don't have an Air Commander F-4 but I did manage to score a second hand X-Plus Sundowners F-4 so look forward to checking that out, its my first X-Plus as normally they are very expensive here but I found one at a nice price and snapped it up!!
@@heavymetaldiecast I also have X-Plus Sundowners. A wonderful model. The Air Commander uses the same X-Plus mold. I think they bought it from him. But as far as I've heard, the Air Commander was later replaced by a cocpit closing mechanism, which everyone hates. At X-Plus, it opened too little
@@slizevicius The Sundowners F-4 is the one I got as well. They are so expensive here, I managed to get mine at around $200AUD. But usually they are around the $400AUD or more!!! . Its hard to justify a nearly weeks worth of money for a diecast model at times,haha

Yes in the thumbnail it certainly is. When I do my videos if I can include info and pictures of the pilots I like to honour them by doing that. A lot of people forget there is flesh and blood in these birds and I like to try and put faces to the models. It's a shame that money did taint the achievements of the "Duke" but money has a way of changing people unfortunately.
