Back in the 80s, Hasegawa Phantom Family in 1/48 with the beautiful boxart by Shigeo Skoike was the dream to have, and still is a very very nice collection.
Brilliant. My journey was my best friend getting an airfix Swordfish kit for xmas in his mid 20s and moaning that "how old do they think I am", then built it and said I bet you can't do better. Cue obsession reignited! As a kid all my pocket money went on kits and paints etc. I thought it would keep me out of mischief in my late 20s but next thing 3.30 am and still working on a kit. One day I'll build one half good as yours!
So why did you discontinue your sanders Phil? They improved my skills considerably and as my supply gets lower I am prevaricating about what brand to buy next. Perhaps I should start a ‘bring back Flory sanders’ campaign?
Amazing story...! I knew some parts but not the summary you gave here.... great to know those details. I have the Jolly Rogers in my stash, plus the USM recon version, the japanese panther squadron, and already build the FRS.1... great kits. As you said, lot of nostalgia... my first Phantom was from monogram! raised panels... Great trip to the past...!
Hi Phil, I’m very fond of the time when you were still ProModeller and before, and only so few on the forum. 🙂 My membership back then, the many videos of yours and your passion and modesty really caught me and got me back into this hobby 16 years ago and which I will enjoy until my last day. Thank you. ❤️ Kind regards from your fellow modeller Jürgen from Portugal.
The Hasegawa F-4G kit was my second ever 1/48 aircraft kit, and really got me back into aircraft modeling. That was over three decades ago 🙂. Excellent kits.
Amazing story, your love of the hobby really shines through. My journey has had numerous starts and stops. My first job was at a local hobby store in 1970 (Age 15) and that's when the bug took for me. Life got in the way off and on until 2017. Retired in 2016 and have been going strong since. First love are the BCATP planes which was a huge thing here in Canada 1939-1945. Jet wise I would have to say the F-86 Sabre and the F-4 Phantom.
More or less the same story for me Phil, started during lockdown for something to do after girls, cars etc. Sold a few to pay for everything, sold a few more. Then in late 2021, someone asked for a commission. Now I'm booked up with commissions till next march after two years of trading alongside my day job. And yes, dark dirt has been a godsend! 😄
1/48 scale Hasegawa Phantom kits used to retail in NZ in the early '90's for around $200.00 (which is over $400.00 in today's money!). You can now get the new Meng kits for around $85-90.00 these days..
I have this very kit waiting in my stash have the sws Phantom f4D still love the hasegawa kit. I forgot also got the special mark 111sq black Mike fg 1 phantom hase kit.
Great review Phil. Its funny. I am now 61 years old. Been modelling on and off since I was a teenager. Yet, I have never built a Hasegawa kit lol. However, I do have the Hasegawa 1/48 US weapons set A in my stash. The set with the Tow Target System in the box. It has a price sticker on for £7.99 lol.

I now know a bit more about your personal modeling history and how your journey started leading to today's "Flory Models". Very good sir!

Hey Phil what a wonderful story cheers Liam
Thank you for sharing this with us. I've been watching the channel couple years now.
I just got this kit a couple of months ago, really looking forward to the live build.
I have 3 of those kits unbuilt. 1 is Showtime 100, one is the Centennial 76 kit and the other has custom markings for the Playboy Bunny markings.

Fantastic back story about how you started.
" Showtime 100 " changed my life too.....for a long time
I can't imagine doing one in 24 hours! It would take me over a month and still wouldn't look half as good.
I remember building the wild weasel version and bean blown away buy it defo top 5 of all time best kits
I’m in the middle of building this kit ,, it’s a classic ,lovely kit
Have this in my stash for a future build.
Hasegawa's 1/48 kits were the cat's meow back then! F-4,F-14,F-15,A-7...

Close to mine! Mine was a 1/48 F-4B/N Bicentennial.
I must admit I love Hasegawa kits , most of my kits are by them with only 1 Eduard FW 190 , and 1 Special Hobby Skua .
I have this very kit waiting in my stash have the sws Phantom f4D still love the hasegawa kit. I forgot also got the special mark 111sq black Mike fg 1 phantom hase kit.
I agree , I am an absolute Phantom fanboy! You can’t get a better aircraft !
Great story :)
Maybe it's time I built my revell cover version of the Phantom FGR2. I think the time is right.

Built a bunch of them over the years. Still have 6 in the stash!
Cool model and review. 👍
Still have a first edition Hasegawa Phantom in my stash.
The price of this kit... is only 20 bucks less than a 1/32 scale phantom. And I love the 1/32 scale
Not another red-top click-bait title Phil!? 😱 Oh no, maybe not this time. 😜 Nice review and back story, Sir! 👍🏻
is this the same kit as the italeri kit ?
Day two saying the contrast on the video is way too strong Phil, bring it down, it’s too strong
.....модель не новая-старые формы.....
this looks horrible haha. best f-4 is tamiya. peroid.
Nice video...I'm off to find one somewhere!
