I can usually manage by slowing down the reverse wind with my fingers if they shoot off whilst I’m holding the net but I definitely made a mess of it with this one!
the occasional angler it can do that. This footage was compiled from 6 days of fishing so there was plenty of ‘nothing happening’. 3 of those days were high winds and rain. All the fish came in breaks in the weather or on the nicer days. Having said that there is usually a boat or two that finds a few fish somewhere.
We were drifting deadbaits which I thing may have been a mistake, I think mooring and float ledger in one place may have paid dividends..... lure fishing was very slow
@@theoccasionalangler6956 I know that drifted deads have accounted for a few lumps over the years but it's fair to say most fish, and therefore, catch statically. Historically lure fishing gets less productive the deeper you go into the trials
Paul Lynch you’re right. I am from an age when clutches could not be trusted. I don’t mind the arm ache, in fact I seek it but the braid wrap was an issue that’s got me trying to change a lifetimes habit.
Two sets off treble hooks in the pike s mouth should be banned , too much damage can be caused to theses fish . A double hook with one small hook holding the bait on should be plenty in this day an age
It’s far better to use strong gear and get them in quickly. In fact the fight from the 30 in this video was the reason I subsequently upped my gear to 3.5tc rods and larger reels. The fish are rested before bringing into the boat and swim away strongly 👍
Some lovelly fish there Paul the larger ones particularly well proportioned. Thanks
Smashing it Paul great video 💯🐊🎣🎣🎣
Thanks again Graeme
Awsome video , great fish cant wait to fish there!
lovely fish but how can you back wind and net a fish ? use the drag back winding went out with nelsons eye

Shimano drags are crap but I wouldn't backwind either.
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Mate we were there Saturday and Sunday!! It felt like the water was on complete shutdown!!

Great vid which method caught the most fish
I caught by far the most on lures but all the bigger fish were on deadbaits
Would love to troll some lures up there. My pb is 20lb 9oz from my local canal
A canal 20 is a good fish 💪
Your arms are aching because your backwinding all the time... Set your tension let the rod and reel do the work...

Size size size all that you seem to be bothered about, sad as some good footage, a nervous angler must be a nightmare sharing a boat with him.
To be fair, yes, Chew is somewhere I fish because of the size the pike it holds.

Those pike didn’t have a chance winching them in like that and you should be resting the fish not throwing them straight back
