I spent the whole day trying to figure out why my pressure washer didn’t work and came across this video and fixed it in 10 minutes. Thanks for your post!
I had the same washer. Mine started sticking after it was 3 yrs old. I did research the problem and found it is an inherent problem with that washer. I contacted Costco where I bought it and they gave me my money back. I bought a new more powerful one for less money. Funny that I found this video while searching for maintenance procedures on power washers. Great video.
Another success story....I had just watched a 2 part video about rebuilding the pump and happened to notice your video....30 minutes later with zero cost...it works like a charm. Many thanks!
I can't thank you enough... I was getting ready to take mine in to a shop to have it repaired and decided to have one more go at fixing it. It's been broken for 2 years and it finally works again. You saved me at least $100, you rock.
I watched another video where the entire pump was removed and rebuilt - springs and O rings everywhere. I knew that I could not handle that! Your video really helped. My pressure washer is now back in business. Thanks alot.
I have the same exact power washer and I just went out to power wash my deck and pvc fence and I encountered this problem. I went on the computer and I found this video how to fix the problem. It was amazing that it worked. Thanks so much for posting this!!
This is exactly what I needed! I bought a new handle thinking it was the handle that was broken. But all it needed was some grease! I am back in bussiness and very happy. Thanks for taking the time to post this.
I have the same pressure washer. Same problem and i went nuts removing that uploader valve a few weeks ago. I tried 90 degree angled needle nose pliers but wound up having to remove the pump in order to get a good grip to get the valve out. I never thought of starting it up. I WISH I SAW THIS FIRST!!!!! GREAT JOB WITH THE VIDEO. I will remember for the next time and you know with these Karchers there will be a next time. Thanks for posting.
I was about to load up my power washer into the car and take it to the shop for this exact issue. I decided to google really quick... this was the second item on the page and amazingly I have the exact same washer. had it fixed 30 minutes. Thanks a million
I had placed mine on the curb. No takers. Nephew asked if he could fix it. I said "go for it." Your video showed us how. Thankyou. I still have a power washer that works again...
Interesting how this design has the same issues with everyone, from a Costco sale? Mine included. Sure glad I stumbled upon this video to try to fix mine this weekend. Really appreciate your video on this .
I have the exact same power washer I bought from Costco over a decade ago with the same exact issue. I used your fix and it is working like new again! Like some others noted, I used silicone grease instead of lithium as it appears to be water proof. I got a small jar on Amazon for $8 but you can also get a tiny container at Lowes in the plumbing isle if you need it today. Great video and thank you so much!
RUclips is a great resource and I have, occasionally, found some very helpful videos. This one may get my vote for the best find of all time. I have a similar age and model Karcher power washer, B&D engine, vertical shaft, however the issue was exactly the same. I have struggled with this problem for several years and thought the problem was somehow related to the gun, and I have been doing a similar workaround...reduce pressure then restart. I recently bought a new gun as I had the need to attach a B&D surface washer and found that the low pressure issue still existed with the new gun. I found your video and nearly smacked myself in the forehead for putting up with this problem for so long. It took me less than 1/2 hour to follow your steps. Especially valuable was the suggestion of starting the engine with water attached to pop out that piston. I saw other videos suggesting using needle-nose pliers, but this idea was an award-winner. Everything is working like new and I offer my thanks and praise to you for sharing this knowledge! I found it to be coincidental that I have a similar model Ocean Kayak. Mine hangs in the garage, so I don't have to power wash it...
I bought my Karcher new on Ebay for maybe $500 and it is probably 18 years old. It has been reliable and this issue just started happening a few years ago. So, I don't have the luxury of returning it. Whenever I find that someone can show me how to do a repair that inexpensively prolongs the life of an asset, I appreciate it greatly. What I was conveying is that this video was very valuable to me and the issue I was having.
I replaced the spill valve last spring and was about to go on the internet and order another one which would put my washer out of service for another week. Happen to run across this video and it worked. Thank you, this helped me out a lot!
I fought my same model for two years thinking I would hove to replace the pump. These low cost washers pumps are aluminum which corrode. This fix worked perfectly. Thanks
Thanks for the feedback. Im glad it fixed the problem for you. The lithium grease will probably last a couple years. A waterproof grease or silicone grease will a little but longer
Nice! Extremely helpful. Appreciate how you showed the actual issue for need to repair, vs only the fix or as many show along with replace of the valve.
Exactly the info I needed. Our local small engine clinic couldn't figure it out, but charged me, of course, for doing nothing. Now we can just fix it at home. Thank you!
Hey thanks bud, I had this pressure washer for 5 years. After watching your video, it cost me $2.00 in o-rings and the job was done. So thanks for being so informative.
Same washer, same problem. I had to replace an O-ring on the inner piston (went with a #41 (ID 7/16"), used copious amounts of blue marine grease and now it's like new! Excellent video - thanks so much! I really like your trick for popping the piston out by turning the motor.
OK , you have officially proved everything is on RUclips! We bought that exact power washer almost 2 decades ago on Maui. We brought it back to Michigan and it has sat the whole time. We fired it up and the pump stuck. I said there must be a way to get this thing going. Everyone said it’s junk. Your video just showed me how simple it is to restore the exact thing wrong with this one. Thank you for the upload. You’re much appreciated. From all of us on the island and here in Michigan, thank you! Yes!, we can now finished power washing our deck to paint it!
Great video. Extremely helpful! My model is Karcher K 2400 HH (1.194.301.0), and is about as old as yours. I followed exaxtly and cleaned some white scale on the piston, pressure spring, and unloader valve with a toothbrush and Dawn. I applied the lithium grease, reassembled it, and it had pressure again! I did not have to replace any washers. Thanks!
I was having a devil of a time removing the old uploader valve with needle nose pliers. Impossible! My next step was to take a sledge-hammer to it. I had the idea to let the pump push it out but was afraid it would fly out with too much force however, not so. Simple solution, thanks so much for the demo!
I knew about greasing the valve, but did not know about the temporary nozzle removal trick. Worked exactly how you showed it, thank you very much for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Excellent video. This helped me fix a brand new hot water pressure washer that wasn't working after using it for only 15 minutes. Took the uploader valve apart, lubed with silicone lube and it works great now.
How does the hot water pressure washer work on dirt bikes? I was thinking about a steam washer as they seem to work wonders on engine bays and I already have a small one.
I found your video about two years ago (this is the exact same washer that I have) and ordered the value but before it arrived I used the lithium grease on the old one and it worked until I tried to start it today. I used your video again to replace the old valve with the one I bought years ago. This is a perfectly explainable video for the problem. Thanks twice!
This video is going to keep me from having to buy a new washer. My Excell washer did has the sane problem and symptoms and I was in the process of buying a new pump or a new washer. Thanks , I am going to my shop right now to do this work on my washer.
Thanks. This has been bugging me for a while. Much simpler then I thought. Pretty nice of you to go to the trouble of filming this and posting it for the rest of us to see. Mine also stopped feeding in cleaning solution. If you remove the brass nipple that the solution hose is connected to there is a check bulb that and orifice that you can clean to resolve that problem.
@@dvneez9148 Mine was a little different. It was a little more similar to the video where I would squeeze the trigger, it would work fine, then once I released it and squeezed the trigger again, it's like it wouldn't trigger the pressure again. To me, that would be more indicative of releasing the little plunger and it getting stuck. As far as losing pressure while you're using it, not sure about that one. Having said that, it was super easy to do what he did in the video, so I would recommend it anyways just to see if it works.
My pressure washer has been doing this for over 5 years!!!!! Just took apart and greased and it works like new!!! Thanks very much for the video and info!!!!
Worked for me as well as I had the exact same problem with the exact same machine that I bought from Costco years ago. What an easy fix. Definitely beats removing the tip continuously. Thank you!
Have the EXACT same pressure washer that I saved from the garbage man! Neighbor was throwing it out because of this same reason, that and it wouldn't stay running due to a crappy air filter that deteriorated so bad it clogged the carb. Fixing the running issue was no brainer, but I was thinking I would have to replace or rebuild the whole pump..... Going to check this out when I get home from work. You are my hero if that is all it is!!!!
Good video. Usually the sticking "spill-valve" (unloader) is due to calcium (lime scale) deposits, often caused over time during cold storage. Consider prior to winter storage, using compressed air to the garden hose connection, and blow the excess water out of the pump. this will slow the scale build-up. Also prior to starting the unit, sue "CLR" scale remover by pouring it into the pump inlet and slowly pulling on the recoil starter to allow the mixture (30 minutes or so) to coat the inside of the pump, so the chemicals can do their stuff on working on the build-up. Then start to rinse out the chemicals. If the spill-valve needs to be removed, emery cloth on the inside bore where the unloader fits prior to the grease remove any excess scale build-up, allowing the valve to move easier without obstruction. Great Job! -D. Yates Karcher (KNA) Pressure Washer Product Technician (25+ years)
Thanks for posting..Immensely helpful. Saved me a bundle. I thought it was my turbo power head that was causing the problem initially. Bought a new one and it was still doing the same thing. Your video saved the day!
I had exactly the same problem with my Karcher and I've been using the nozzle trick for 5 years. After nearly falling off my ladder today trying to get some pressure, I decided to look for a fix online and found your video. IT WORKED PERFECTLY. It only took me 15 minutes to fix. THANKS FOR POSTING. YOU PROBABLY SAVED MY LIFE.. :-)
This was so amazing that this was the first video I came across when I started looking for a fix! The exact same problem with the same exact machine. Fixed it as shown in video and it ran with no misses. I used a lithium grease that works well in water. Thank you for posting!
WOW!!!! Thank you so very much for your time. I could not get the up-loader valve or pressure release valve out but I did add two drops of machine oil then pushed down and pulled up again and again, then I added the white lithium grease. cleaned all the other parts parts, put together and it worked, when I find out how to remove the value I will replace with all new parts. Thanks again Bill
Excellent... Just what I needed to know Just bought my unit used at an Estate Sale for $65.00 and thought I had a great deal until I tried to use it. Engine runs great but no water pressure. I was bummed until I watched your video..... thanks!
man I love the internet. man you were a life saver. I kind of figured it out but was questioning myself. and this video confirmed it for me and my friends washer. thx again
Nice video, thank you. It did not fix my washer problem. Eventually, I checked the outlet port. Inside, there is a whiteish plastic venturi flow restrictor where the soap is pulled in. That was loose and mostly unscrewed so I flushed it out and saw that an o-ring was also missing. Replaced the o-ring and screwed it back in tight without damaging it. Voila! no more pulsating or failure to build pressure. Hope this helps someone.
Great video. I have a different brand and but it is the same basic fix. Worked like a charm. Nice steady camera and editing of dead space. TIP: Use plumbing grease it is water proof, and cheap $2 for a 4 oz tube at home depot.
Thank you very much. I had this problem with the same power washer and thought it was a bad pump. After watching your video, I was able to correct the problem just like you showed "how to" for about $5. Thanks so much!
Great video. Fixed my Karcher using this method in less than 15 minutes. The use of the pump pressure to force out the unloader valve is brilliant. Thanks so much
Yay!! I had just decided to quit fooling around with the needle-nosed and try blowing the valve out by starting the engine. Glad to know it won't hurt anything. Thanks!
Just had my usual go around with my washer, the same model (and problem) you demonstrated. I've been doing the spray head removal to get pressure for a couple of years. Wondered if there was a 'repair kit' that might resolve the problem. Googled and found your great video instead. Just great! Thanks!
You stole this trick directly from me! How did I not notice you spying on me while I was pressure washing around my house? LOL! Seriously, I've been doing this for months! THANK YOU. 10 THUMBS UP!!!!!!
Excellent video. I will try it tomorrow. My unit is the same model as yours and doing what yours was during the video. I will remove the pressure regulator and valves/springs and perform the procedure you provided. Thank you!
Once again RUclips proves you never need a small engine mechanic! Thanks for the tutorial, i also have this model with an intermittent problem, which has all but disappeared. Now i know another part to service before i put it away for the season. .
The best part about this video is using the engine to eject the valve! The geniuses that designed this (I have essentially the same pressure washer) put that plate that holds the nozzles, etc, right over top of that valve so unless you have right angled needle nose pliers of the size that can reach down to pull the valve out, you have to remove the pump to get at it. This makes the fix super easy. In minutes you are back to work as long as the valve and o-rings are in good shape.
Hey Lowegy. Great video. I bought a used Karcher model G2000 gas pressure washer. I started it up and it worked great. For the first 2 minutes just like yours did. I thought I got ripped off and bought a dud washer. I found your video and fixed my problem. My pressure washer now works great. Thanks for sharing.👍👍
I have the same pressure washer with the same problem. I followed your instructions to the T and it was super easy to replace the valve. I chose to replace mine and I added the lithium grease. I now have a different problem. I transported the pressure washer on a leaning sideways position and now I think I have a choke problem. It's really hard to start. Going to look for videos on how to solve this. Thanks for this video though.
Check to see if the air filter is soaked with oil and restricting airflow, making it hard to start. This will happen if you tilt the motor too far in any direction with the exception of when the spark plug is pointed in the upward direction.
@@beerggls yes, it turned out the air filter was soaked with oil. I ended up doing a full tune up. I took the air box out and washed. I also took the gas container out and washed it. I also bought a kit with a brand new carburetor, spark plug, air filter and gaskets on Amazon for $17 and finally put fresh new gas on it and did an oil change with fresh oil. The only thing I removed after I installed was the fuel filter because it was leaking (different hose sizes). It started immediately and it purrs instead of running. Thank you for your answer :). Here's the kit www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075LDNK64/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Great video! Have the exact same pw with the same problem. Once I viewed your video I went out and fixed the problem in 10 minutes. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks much for the video. I had the same problem and solved in the same way. However, over the time the valve stucks again and you have to repeat the repair maintenance. Long run, the pump will have to be cleaned and internal parts replaced. This is a typical problem of many water pumps. Sometimes it more cost effective to replace the pump for a new one. The Honda motor is excellent. Good Luck!
You are the man!! Thanks for the video. Fixed my issue. I do think my o-ring has a nick in it which caused the pressure issue and I will order some new rings but the grease sealed it enough to get the job done. Thanks again!!
Thanks! I got tired of doing what you were doing in the beginning of this video to make it work. I stuck it under the house and bought an electric one. The electric one eventually died so I pulled the old gas powered one back out. I pulled the whole pump apart trying to find the problem. I didn't find the problem. I tried your solution and now it works just fine. Interesting thing is that this seems to be the common problem with pressure washers in general and they're all basically the same.
Jeff Rogers thanks Jeff for your comment. It is a common maintenance problem that is often overlooked. I'm glad you fixed your power washer and it's back in action.
Thanks! I own the Karcher model: G 2600 VH and after working briefly on first start this spring, I had zero pressure. This video fix, modified a bit, worked perfectly. In addition, I removed the 2 bolts holding the chemical tank on. Once the tank was removed, I tilted the entire unit back on the handle (shut gas off first or will leak from carburetor). Removed the uploader/spill valve per this video but used needle nose pliers instead of starting the motor. I lubed the valve up real good with O-ring/gasket lube that I use for my pool gaskets. Put it all together and it works like new. I was going to pull the pump per the ereplacement video until I watched yours. This was much cheaper, quicker and easier. Thanks again for posting!
I am working on the same model washed for an older gent, so thanks for the honest video. Don't worry about negative comments, we must exhibit some bravery to put any sort of content on the internet! Thanks again....
With mine, same Karcher 2400psi model, the need to clean and lube the unloader valve comes again and again, eventually you have to replace it. Amz or flea bay has 'em for $20, it's the green one. It is designed to open if the pump is not being used and the water gets too hot, but they start sticking. Also called a "Spill Valve".
Your video answered all my questions! Thank you so much! I was so close to figuring it out myself but didn't know starting the pressure washer would pop the unload valve out. Thank you!
Great video. I had to do this a few years ago. Wish I would have watched the video then. Would have saved me significant amount of time. I agree with another comment that the audio could be louder.
Thanks for the info. I have the exact same problem. Gets aggravating removing the nozzle every time to get the pressure to work. Going outside now to do your recommended fix. Thanks again. KW
The audio is too. And you should be using a Torx bit on those screws. There is another video by a regular tech who uses Teflon grease. You shouldn't get grease on the small end of the valve since it needs to seat and stay put. Your idea to pop out the valve by starting the pump is great. It will save a lot of work trying to pull it out with needle nose pliers the next time I have to do this job. Save the lithium for automotive applications.
Lowegy, thank you sooo much for posting this, just did it to mine in about 10 minutes. Works like a champ now! I had some slight rust on the valve, so I used some steel wool to polish it a little before lubing. Wow! What a difference! Thanks again!
Good info. I have a similar model. For the last couple of years it's been doing this. I just switch it off with the wand trigger depressed, then switch it back on just before the engine dies completely. This works but it's an annoyance I'll tackle this repair soon.
Great Upload Bro!!!! One tip I would suggest Silicone lubricant (paste in a tube, Not Silicone adhesive) As this is impervious to water it will last a life time where as the lithium grease will get displaced by the water after some amount of time.Hopefully just a helpful tip to tweak your upload!
Thanks for your input. As I stated elsewhere in the comments, I am thinking about buying a pressure washer with the issue mentioned here and now I know how to fix the problem. Your suggestion of using silicone grease should make the repair more permanent.

Great Job! -D. Yates Karcher (KNA) Pressure Washer Product Technician (25+ years)
Doug Yates thank you. Appreciate the information.
Doug Yates nice
You are the man! Clear, and concise. I have a Karcher G3000 OH, but your video was still spot on... solved my problem. Thanks for this great video.
Tony King thanks for sharing your story. I'm glad you are safe now 😄
This was so amazing that this was the first video I came across when I started looking for a fix! The exact same problem with the same exact machine. Fixed it as shown in video and it ran with no misses. I used a lithium grease that works well in water. Thank you for posting!
Have the same equipment from the same source. Had the same problem. Followed your vid. No longer have a problem. Thank you.
Glad it worked out for you Jim.
Thanks again
Bill
+Bill Gonzalez You are welcome. I'm glad it worked out for you.
I have the same unit with the same problem. I was ready to toss it and just buy a new one. Works like new again now! Thanks for the help!
Excellent... Just what I needed to know
Just bought my unit used at an Estate Sale for $65.00 and thought I had a great deal until I tried to use it. Engine runs great but no water pressure. I was bummed until I watched your video..... thanks!
man I love the internet. man you were a life saver. I kind of figured it out but was questioning myself. and this video confirmed it for me and my friends washer. thx again
Incredible! Followed you video, it worked perfect, just 10 minutes, 0$ enjoyed the trick of starting the machine to remove the valve! Many thanks!!!
Thanks for sharing the information. I am thinking about buying a pressure washer that has this same issue and now I know how to fix the problem.
Been dealing with this for 12-15 yrs . Such a simple fix . Was thinking of getting a new washer but not now. Thanks
Thanks so much
Fred Meyer prende y. Seapaga
Fred, thanks for the reply. Happy to know the video helped you fix your pressure washer
Greg Lee LOL
Same brand, age, & problem. Thanks for this video and fix. It works perfectly now and required no help from my husband. ;)
Now i know another part to service before i put it away for the season. .
Best suggestion I have seen to get that main value out of the pump. Thanks.
Spoke too soon .. Works like a charm. You are incredible. Thanks a million

This video literally saved the day for me...THANK YOU!!
Thanks - you saved me from buying a new pump. This fix works!
David Aut thanks for the comment and tips. I'm glad it worked out for you
I am working on the same model washed for an older gent, so thanks for the honest video.
My bro-in-law just gave me this exact model with the same issue and now it works great! Thanks!
Your video answered all my questions! Thank you so much! I was so close to figuring it out myself but didn't know starting the pressure washer would pop the unload valve out. Thank you!
Richard Crook 👍
Thank you! We were going through the same issue. Your video was easy to follow and a fast fix. You are a lifesaver!
Thanks A bunch Sir, I have had this problem for a long long time I used all purpose grease and it works like new, you rock man
Awesome video. Followed your instructions exactly and it works like new. Thanks for saving me money on simple repairs.
PERFECT explanation of what I'll run into when I go to change out the unloader valve in my 2400HH.
Real world field repair. I love this video, thanks! The other guy that does the repair seems to add a lot of unnecessary labor costs to the repair.
Thanks for the video, I have the same unit and have had this lack of pressure as an intermittent problem. I'll run through this maintenance procedure.
Just did this today to my Dad's washer and it fixed it! Thanks.
KW
K Walt I hope this fixed your pressure issue
Wonderful, I followed the steps too, I am so grateful for your tutorial! Thanks a million!
Great video. I had exactly the same problem. I used some cheap grease to lube locks and it works great again. many thanks.
Great video, this seems to be a common mistake with these pressure washer. Problem solved after watching this video. Thank you so much!!!!
Great video, especially where the valve pops out after start up...sure beats trying it pull it out with long nose pliers.
Thanks for the video. The exact problem I am having with mine after being put away for the winter. Now I know it's a easy fix and not a pump.
Lowegy, thank you sooo much for posting this, just did it to mine in about 10 minutes. Works like a champ now! I had some slight rust on the valve, so I used some steel wool to polish it a little before lubing. Wow! What a difference! Thanks again!
fkhdad you are welcome. I'm glad it fix your power washer
This works great. I used plumbers grease on mine worked like a new one. Thank you.
I'm glad it worked for you Darrell.
Good info. I have a similar model. For the last couple of years it's been doing this. I just switch it off with the wand trigger depressed, then switch it back on just before the engine dies completely. This works but it's an annoyance I'll tackle this repair soon.
Great video I had a feeling it was the valve on the top but after I saw Ur video I performed the maintenance and works like the day I bought it
Very helpful. Got my pressure washer going again.
Thanks for the helpful video. I have TWO of these machines, BOTH with the same problem. Now, they both work fine. Thanks again.
I'm glad both of them are working now. Thanks for the comment and sharing your successful story.
Thanks for your input. As I stated elsewhere in the comments, I am thinking about buying a pressure washer with the issue mentioned here and now I know how to fix the problem. Your suggestion of using silicone grease should make the repair more permanent.
